I'm chill with it. Anime are cartoons — they're just a specific type of cartoons.
Now, if we have dumb kids doing the inverse and calling something like Avatar The Last Airbender an anime, then we have to talk.

It's all animation. It does bug me a bit when people argue "No, it's not good - it's a cartoon! Cartoons can't have story." But that's pretty specific anyway. I do like to use this on otakus though. To see the gears spin~.
I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -WanderlustwarriorAnime being called a cartoon?! Well, that just boils my blood!
In this episode, Michael attempts to construct a time machine to escape debt and dinner party obligations.I refer to anime as "Japanese cartoons" sometimes, usually in the context of explaining what a specific series is to a non-anime fan (ex. "Sailor Moon is a Japanese cartoon series.") Then again, I don't think calling something a "cartoon" is an insult, either, merely a statement that it involves animated drawings of some sort (whether that be hand-drawn or CGI or whatever). I personally see cartoons as being equal to live-action as a medium for storytelling.
I have also described Hetalia as being a political cartoon taken one step further (in that anthropomorphic countries are commonly used in single-panel political cartoons, but Hetalia turns them into characters in a comic strip/anime series).

....anime is cartoon as repeated by everyone else above...BUT it's japanese cartoon...whereas I assume most people are talking about western cartoon when they say just say "cartoon" around here.
In that case, a better title would have been "How do you feel* about anime and western cartoon?"
In those cases, distinctive styles that are immediately recognizable. Values Dissonance is often a pretty good indicator of anime as well, since anime have no trouble showing stuff that would never EVER be allowed in cartoons in the west. Never Say "Die" is also helps telling the difference between the two, although not as well as Values Dissonance. Characters can die in even a children's anime* . In western cartoons, deaths can happen, sometimes in mature ways, like the old Disney movies, or sometimes handled really messily, like in Avatar to avoid pissing off Moral Guardians. But deaths in western stuff is really really rare anyways.
Hmmm...the influence of Moral Guardians is also another way to tell the two apart. Anime can be censored too, but they can still show way more stuff than western cartoon.
tl;dr - I don't mind calling anime cartoon...but I do mind people mixing up western cartoon and anime into one pot...since I feel everything should be separated into categories so we can find what we want easier. Hate anime and only want western cartoons? Just look at the western category! And vice versa.

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."But you already have an account in a wiki about tropes in media...and you're participating in the forums of said wiki about tropes in media...
"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."After googling "graphic novel"...what are their differences compared to comics anyways?
"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."I'm supposed to care if Anime is called a cartoon, now?
I'm not gonna act all Wapanese and shit and say "Oh no, our pwecious Animus are being called cartoons by ignorant assholes, oh my god, I'm gonna die!"
