Having never seen Utena this show reminded me of Star Driver the most. Really similar visual style. But I hear that one was also spearheaded by Utena alumni, so whaddayaknow.

So, how trippy is this compared to Rubber Fruit?

Let me put it this way: a talking penguin hat possesses a young girl and opens a portal to a J-Pop dimension and flies through in a shapeshifting panda rocket to conduct a meeting involving the acquisition of a vaguely described MacGuffin called the Penguin Drum. Then everyone gets naked.

It's that kind of show.

Interesting. The obvious thing, from here, is for Ringo's diary to turn out to be the Penguindrum, but that strikes me as being a little too easy. Why make it so nebulous if it's going to show up this early?

Maybe Ringo herself is the Penguindrum?

So, the episode heading to creepytown in the last few minutes is going to be a regular thing ? Sure, why not.

So the second episode was a bit more normal than the first. The last few minutes more than made up for that, though. Also, there's a bishounen teacher who love birdwatching, just like I do, so he's awesome too, as is that cutie, who stalks him, Ringo.

Also, did anyone else notice that the blonde woman in the OP appeared in the magazine that Himari was reading when the teacher rang?

Well, that made more sense, but its hard to see how its really relevant. Ringo's got a fairly prominent spot in the OP, so she should be important.

Seems to me that the brothers have good blackmail material on her now...

"Give us the Penguin Drum or we let your teacher know you've been stalking him with a magic diary"?

Episode two is another odd but entertaining episode. Does anyone know who sings the song during the transformation scene as it sounds familiar?

There is not much information about the insert song sadly enough. According to ANN the group who sings the song is called Triple H, I have no idea whether that's accurate or not. :)

I am mostly watching this for the penguins. They are awesome.

Ringo and Yuno should be BF Fs.

Today's episode was amazing. I think I could watch a whole show of nothing but Metal Penguin Solid: Tactical Espionage Action.

Using invisible penguins as tools for espionage. Crazy Awesome indeed.
