[up]...Because most Russians speak Russian, making subtitles pointless.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

The purpose who put this trailer online most likely lives in Russia, which is how he acquired the trailer. He also apparently speaks English. If he lives in Russia he probably knows Russian too. Therefore he probably knows both Russian and English and can give us some subtitles.

English trailer.

Personally, I could stand listening to Dracula's voice for an hour and a half. In fact, if I didn't know about the film I wouldn't have said it was Sandler.

Oh that makes me SO HAPPY.

He reminds me of those rambling villains Dr. Doofensmirtz and Gru.

Yeah, that doesn't sound anything like Sandler. It's a pretty dead-on stereotypical Transylvanian accent.

I never doubted for a second. Sandler's voices may be silly and gratuitous but you can't deny they're good.

And Sandler can act in general. He just can't write. Or pick good movies.

And really, the walking tree scene looks even better in HD. It has a lightness and bounce to it that makes it pop.

[up]...Genndy's not doing the voice. He may have given Sandler coaching from hell, but it seems unlikely.

C'mon, you people honestly thought Sandler was just going to use his normal voice? Really?

The way some celebrities are cast in animated movies just because of recognition, it wasn't entirely out of the question.

Yes, but Sandler does a lot of goofy voices and does them well, no matter how stupid they are in context. It's part of his schtick. Half of the jokes at his expense in Funny People revolved around those damn voices. If damn near any other comedian had been cast, I could see the issue, but Sandler is probably the best non-VA they could've picked.

Now how will everyone else sound? Ya think Ms. Gomez also received a bit of coaching from hell?

Mine, too. Now that they've finally let Open Season die, Sony just might become a studio to watch. smile

Except for whatever Smurf movies they have to do, of course...

According to Wikipedia they're making a Harold and the Purple Crayon movie.

Half of me is praying they don't screw up and half of me is praying this'll get Crockett Johnson back in the public eye and accumulate interest in a Barnaby movie.

I said thank you because as it seems he made sure this movie was good. I know he didn't do the voice.

I had my own concept for a CG Harold And The Purple Crayon. So I'm ELATED they're adapting it, but I fear a massive Broken Base from Adaptation Expansion.

I personally am looking forward to how they'll handle the crayon constructs. That sort of thing works well traditionally, but I imagine convincing the audience the constructs are real in CGI will take some serious creativity.

Yeah, I can't wait to see how they bring a crayon line into real space. ..... or they'll just make his drawings into the very objects he's drawing, which I think would be less creative.

But still, Barnaby! I'm kind of sad it never became a big hit beyond WWII. It was my introduction to Johnson and I found it a lot more charming than Harold.

Incidentally, before we derail the thread...
