That was most likely the impression that was meant to be given, yes.
Y'know, I've recently realized Lotor was Marik from Yu-gi-oh before Marik ever existed. Seriously crazy and intimidating in the original Japanese version, completely hammy and "NYAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" in the dub. His voice even sounds like Marik's with a testicle drop.

You know, I've added some Fridge Logic to one of the most infamous changes between the two series. If Coran's wife and son are alive in another dimension (this despite footage of a spaceship firing on a woman holding an infant, even in Voltron), then unless those particular dimensional aliens ever bother to come back, they may as well be as dead as they are in Go Lion.

After picking up the Go Lion collection (once Voltron was completed) I was thunderstruck by the unedited product. One instance has the captive Princess Amue (Romelle) returning to her cell after Sincline (Lotor) has finished with her. In the US dub, Romelle speaks of being interrogated harshly, but I think that the Go Lion ep means to imply that Sincline actually raped her offscreen. While he's enough of a monster to do so, I can't be sure I'm reading the scene right. Any help from other Go Lion viewers?
