One of my favorite animation studios has no discussion thread??? THIS MUST BE REMEDIED AT ONCE!

(receives an eyeroll from Gromit)

I'm doing this for you, dog. Anyway, I've always loved Aardman's work. I grew up with "The Wrong Trousers" and eventually the other Wallace And Gromit adventures. It's amazing how just some plasticine and well-done animation can express so much emotion. Their other movies, Chicken Run and Flushed Away, are two movies I can (and will) watch over and over again. And, of course, I celebrated when I learned of their return to the big screen in 2011-12.

Unfortunately, my fellow American colleagues don't seem to like these movies as much as I do...if they've heard of it at all. So I appeal to my fellow tropers; let's talk about Aardman!

[down]In response to the "dark side" channel: I'd completely forgotten about A Town Called Panic. I loved the movie! "Ident"...okay, that was pretty weird. "Loves Me, Loves Me Not" was pretty funny, although it's been slapped with a mature content warning on Youtube itself. Haha. My favorite part was the ending; Laser-Guided Karma, no?

Haven't seen too much of their stuff, but Chicken Run is wonderful.

It's a shame Executive Meddling affects the output of a studio that could last a decade before making their comeback! We never got another Wallace and Gromit movie, and the sheer raping of Flushed Away was the straw that broke the camel's back and Nick Park cut off their contract with Dream Works. Only recently have they made an announcement that they will return to feature films, so I am happy about that at least.

The best studio to do stop-motion, I should watch Chicken Run and the wallace and gromit movie again.

I have heard that Executive Meddling was also the reason why we never saw Aardman's take on The Tortoise and the Hare. I remember Aardman wanting it to be faithful to the story while at the same time have their style of humor. But Dreamworks wanted it in the veins of Sherk. It was to be the 4th film in their contract with Dreamwork's animation. Now its stuck in Development Hell.

I saw Nick Park in person while at an advanced screening of the Wallace and Gromit movie where he announced his healthy plans for future DreamWorks films including The Tortoise and the Hare.

The next year, I felt cheated.

You forget Henry Selick's brilliant stop-motion films.

[up]Cant forget about Selick, he's good with it too. Any chance for Tortoise and the hare to be picked up at Sony?

Well now they're at Sony and they also have that CG Arthur Christmas coming. If they want to pitch it, it will have a better chance of being greenlit.

[up][up][up]I do like Selick's movies. Selick isn't really part of Aardman, though, which is why I didn't mention him.

[up]Arthur Christmas sounds okay, but the one I'm excited for is The Pirates! Band of Misfits. I know it'll be based on a book, but I'm still hoping they'll sneak in elements from their rejected pirate story that eventually became Flushed Away.

Necroing this thread, because for some reason, there wasn't a page for their next movie Early Man, which the trailers are making it look hilarious. [lol]

Anyway, I started the page just now, so contributions would be great.

[up][up] Arthur Christmas is absolutely fantastic. I haven't seen the Pirate movie yet, but I do want to see it.

[up] Yeah, that looks great too (although from the Comments, it appears it might have the same Premise as that one Jack Black movie).

I saw “Early Man” on Wednesday. Here’s my ranking of the 7 Aardman films:

7. Arthur Christmas: It was all right but I felt the main character was a little too bland for my taste and switching to CGI severly drained the movie of the charm Aardman films usually have.

6. Aargh Pirates Band Of Misfits: This pirate film certainly seemed a lot better after seeing that god-awful pirate comedy “Yellowbeard”

5. Flushed Away: Regardless of what audiences and the Oscars say, I’ll take this over “Happy Feet” any day

4. Shaun The Sheep The Movie: Good cartoon charcters don’t have to talk to be charming

3. Chicken Run: I fully beleive that if the Animated Feature Oscar had started a year early, this would have been the category’s first winner and would have deserved it

2. Early Man: If you only see one animated cave man comedy this decade, you needn’t bother with Dreamworks “The Croods”

1. Wallace & Gromit Curse Of The Wererabbit: the late Roger Ebert said it best: Wallace & Gromit are two of the most charming cartoon characters you will ever meet.

No, Mr. Bunker, "this here" is justice

You thought Early Man was better than Chicken Run?

I read it and I am still not 100% clear on how that's done or what it means.

[up][up] That's awesome! The rationale behind the sale is totally sound. I feel like more companies should do this.

Essentially they're doing this so no one sudden buys up shares takes them over,by giving their employees shares it's hoped it will expand their business, there's also tax reasons too, corporation tax is slightly reduced

Hey guys!

Wanna see Aardman punch you in the gut with sea turtles voiced by Sheriff Hopper and Hilda urging you to please, for the love of god, help save the oceans?

...No?

Well, they roped me into seeing it, so I'm roping you guys into seeing it too.

Real talk: this is something that hurts to see, but you NEED to see it because the message is important. Please watch it.
