Oh, are the mod hat avatars hard-coded or something?

Places the mods hang out that I run into them, off the top of my head:

All: Webcomics: xkcd

Fighteer: Webcomics: Darth And Droids, Goblins Life Through Their Eyes, Order Of The Stick. Videogames: World Of Warcraft. Other areas: TRS, IP.

Madrugada: Webcomics: Schlock Mecenary, Girl Genius, Eerie Cuties. Other areas: TRS, IP, Oldfolks home.

Bobby G: OTC, Wiki Talk, Trope Talk. Used to be in IJBM a lot.

Meta Four: Webcomics: Space Trawler, Gunnerkigg Court*

Morven: OTC: Military Thread, YF: Gun Porn. Old folks home.

blackcat: Old folks home. I vaguely recall some Webcomics, I want to say she hangs with Maddy on those threads, but I might just be getting confused in my old age.

Camacan: TRS, IP.

Tangent128:Webcomics: Girl Genius. ????

Note that these are only places that I run into them as chatters/tropers rather than as a mod stepping in to do something.

Tangent128 pops into Minecraft from time to time.

Bobby G and Tangent also pop into the Homestuck thread too.

Tangent seems to step in places Pokemon-y. I know he's one of the biggest advertisers for Char Cole around.

Bobby G hangs out in Writer's Block sometimes (mostly in the Character Development Thread), while Madrugada pokes into the Random Question Thread. Since I started posting, she had been the only mod to use the mod hat at Writer's Block. I think I seen blackcat once or twice.

It's a small community there, so it's easy to identify all the regulars. I can clearly see when a newbie arrives.

See, I don't go to those threads. I'm not a writer, and utterly loath doing it. I step in everyone once in a while and check for any scifi-ish threads.

I like Bobby's Mod Chicken. You can clearly see the disapproval on Fluttershy's face that shows this post is Serious Business.

Even though it is Fluttershy with a chicken on her head.

And the post is pink.

But still.

Actually, I just need to point this out, but the first time I saw the coloured mod posts with the hats and the title "with mod hat on" (mostly the last part) I immediately thought of the Star Trek episode Darmok and then what would "Fighteer, with mod hat on." have meant to the aliens there?

Thumped for taking troll bait. Feeding a troll. Bad idea.

Wait, so this thread was here since last year?!

Darn, I totally could've gotten whacked by the Shililah (sp?) of Whackingness w/o having tried to get thumped. (And it wasn't even the Shilelah that whacked me! sad)

Why was The Handle thumped, did he thump himself? And if you thump yourself with a mod thump (not just a thump), do you send yourself a thump message?

ETA:No Wiki markup does not stop thumps from happening.

I'm almost certain that these days, when a moderator thumps you, the thump text appears yellow.

I thought this thread was resurrected by someone who thumped themself. The thread probably would have been locked if that wasn't the case.

Unless you were taking the title of this thread literally.

The only thump that has black text is the basic [thump]. It has five messages it can give you, and if you reload the page then different ones can appear on the same post.

All the other thumps have cinnamon text (though the expanded [rules] one has black text after the link, which is probably related to the bug in reasons on page edit histories). There are a couple I don't know the markup for – this one and this one.

Thumping yourself doens't send a PM and I'm fairly sure it doesn't appear on your record.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

Holy crap, it randomizes regular thump messages!

I cycled through all the messages I knew on one post (since you can edit a self-thumped post), including the ones that give cinammon text, and didn't get a PM. Presumably I can't PM myself!

The five things you can be basic-thumped by are:

  • the Stick of Post Thumping
  • the Eldritch Flyswatter of Horror
  • the Shillelagh of Whackingness
  • the Codfish in a Derby Hat
  • the Merciless Hammer of Doom

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

I am always amused when someone realizes this.
