"Take your (...) hippy dream world, I'll take reality and earning my happiness with my own efforts" - BarkeySavage, you were looking for an experiment on anarchy?
The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.Heh heh heh. Ventura.
If there's one thing that will ensure this shit won't go on for long, it's the fact that Minnesota has already proved capable of electing an independent. And that's the one thing neither party wants- a new party means one of them is on the chopping block.
Look, you can't make me speak in a logical, coherent, intelligent bananna.I think the problem is you don't understand attitudes in America.
It's very polarized, and you can get called a complete monster for suggesting a tax of any kind, or even opposing a tax cut.
I wonder how this shut down is going to impact Tim Pawlenty though, since some of the mess could be construed as his fault.

Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.Saying "I don't want to derail, but..." and then talking about the subject you just said you don't want to derail into, is a very bad idea. If you don't want to start a derail, don't.
And once again, the topic is the Minnesota shutdown. Not taxes in general, not Republicans, not Democrats, not the other posters...
Get the idea?
And not what got thumped, either.

Right... getting this back on track...
Well someone is going to have to give something. Why not go for the compromise option?
The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books."Some GOP moderates have talked of breaking the impasse with other means of raising revenue, such as eliminating tax breaks or authorizing a casino. Dayton has said he is open to such ideas."
As a compromise point, those ideas look promising.
But one of the other ideas I saw floated, going halfsies on tax increases and cutting social services (1% tax increase for +180K earners, 50% of the social service cuts), seems like a bad idea. Do we really want to have to argue against cutting social services more every single time we want to raise taxes on what are already low tax rates? I don't think that sets a good precedent.

Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.I have to say the other sources idea sounds smarter. Always good to take a sensible third option if it presents itself.
The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.I'm wondering if we're going to see shutdowns like this in other states. I heard that this is the second time Minnesota has had a shutdown in recent memory. NPR ran a blurb about it this morning, but traffic prevented me from paying good attention to it.
I also am wondering if this is a pre-show to a Federal shutdown, if they can't work otu something before August.

Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.I dislike how this is affecting people I personally know. Both of my aunts work for the government, and now they and 21,998 other workers have no income.
@Gamechainsaw: I believe you mean, What Do You Mean It's Not Heinous?
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen Fry^Thats probably a better post.
The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.Whether or not MN Shutdown is a real microcosm of the federal shutdown, it'll be portrayed that way. My fear is that both sides will try to equate the two literally, which leads to an oversimplification of the federal government's problems by nature.
Hoping the compromise solution by the moderates works out.

And this is over... a 2% tax increase.
What Do You Mean, It's Not Awesome??
