[up] Yes, it did. And a couple of my favorite episodes (The Musical and Depth Takes A Holiday) are the goofy coming and trying to take over the show. XD

A few months ago, I decided to binge on this series mainly because I saw it at the very top of Doug Walker's Top 20 Favorite TV shows list. I remember watching back when I was a bit younger myself, but I didn't really care for it. I only bring this up today because Much Music is airing the show for a few days now, but I only noticed today.

I like Daria because I like monotone people, and like another poster said, just vague people in general. Trent's entire existence always cracked me up, he is probably my favorite character no the show.

Ugh, oh boy. My friend whom I'm showing the show is giving less than positive reception to this. Mostly towards the main theme and Daria herself. He really likes Jane and Brittany though.

So... apparently, in a fantasy casting for a live action adaptation, someone named Aubrey Plaza won? According to the fan reaction I've seen so far, this seems to be good, but I don't know enough about the actress to know why. :)

Why is this particular person so popular for the (again, fantasy) role?

What's the general opinion on Daria as a character?

Watch anything with her and you'll see she is a lot like Daria in just her overall tone, personality, snark etc.

I can't believe I never thought of that.

I just find it interesting how we perceive Daria differently; I used to see Daria as sort of the paragon. Yeah, she's kind of a jerk(not really a surprise for tv protagonists), but she seems like clearly a moral, if antiheroic person. Yet I see more and more people finding Daria to be a case of grey and gray; yes she has a point, but she's just as flawed.

I think Daria is someone who has a strict way of viewing the world. She's not entirely sure of it, but adhering to that lets her get through a turbulent period in her life. She doesn't necessarily want everyone else to be like her, but when confronted with aspects of the world she doesn't like, it's easier for her to respond with sarcastic rudeness while she tries to work it out.

She's not meant to be a paragon, and I think a few too many people make the mistake of putting her on a pedestal that Daria as a character wouldn't have wanted to stand on anyway.

She's probably one of the most fully rounded characters I've seen in animation. I identified a lot with her when the show was still running because hey, I was a teenager with a bit of a self-righteous streak and Daria cracked me up. When I watched the whole thing again as an adult, I looked back at it and found myself less identifying with a misfit and more watching a teenage girl sort out the confusing nature of her emotions, her intelligence, and even just figuring out what she wants out of life.

The Series 2 finale is actually my favorite episode now.

I also discovered that as an adult, I really like Helen. She's a workaholic, but she really does try her best. She loves her children and she probably knows them better than a lot of people give her credit for. Some of Daria's best moments come out of her getting an epiphany because Helen says just the right thing at the right time.

Is it weird that I keep expecting the cheerleaders had to just float away like a balloon? or how I keep expecting the job you turn out to be a robot piloted by a squirrel? I like the show but the characters who are stupid get on my nerves sometimes especially Quinn.

Read down the page to Aubrey Plaza and MTV's tweets. This could be something. Or it could be a great joke.

Just read a bit from the Designated Protagonist Syndrome page...is Daria really significantly disliked? Apparently there was an entry that considered her just "a whiny snarker" compared to the colorful cast. Certainly she's flawed but I'm not sure that's an accurate description of her.

I can attest to people hating Daria significantly. I let my friends borrow my DV Ds and they couldn't stand her. I kept telling them "she gets knocked down quite a few pegs throughout the series, just keep watching", but then i realized, yeah, 4 episode rule, nevermind.

I like Daria, but the moments where she didn't always come out on top are probably the best parts of the show.

While Daria would generally be considered unlikable in real-world situations, the way she acts is pretty much the best that she can do to deal with the general idiocy of the series' world.

The thing I've found looking back is that I've been in her shoes so many times going through high school.

Helen - Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria - Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?

Daria is seriously on that page?

Scuse me...need to fix that. I mean...no. I know there's a small Hatedom for her on this site of people that legitimately don't get the show and soapbox at every opportunity, but it's tiny at best and considering you can easily find piles of legitimate critical praise for the show and the character, it's obvious someone used the page as a platform.

EDIT: Oh...looks like it was dealt with already.

You're right, Nomuru.

Still, I agree with some of the folks on the previous pages that if the world in Daria was a little more malicious, this would probably be a different show. I'd like to see that.

Yeah, sometimes I find that Daria is too "nice"(okay the better word would probably be passive); part of the reason she makes those comments is because she knows most of the time they won't be understood. For better or for worse, she doesn't really force her view on others most of the time, unlike say Mr. O'Neill.

Except of course, when it comes to Jane; Daria definitely gets a bit more petty.

My favorite episodes are probably the ones about the end of Jane's relationship with Tom and Daria's beginning with him. And the musical episode (Daria 'singing' XD).

Does anyone remember her 'creepy' laughter?

The one character that I never liked was Sandy. Annoying b****! And that kid from Is It Fall Yet? that Daria talks to.

EDIT: Sandy, I meant Sandy.
