The first movie was meant to have aliens. Something happened that made them unable to put in the aliens.

Scheduling issues or something.

[up]Thus, that weird opening that moves past several planets, and the shot of Earth seen a few times.

[up]x6 Lol!

I love weird as hell plots, even if they are made of fail. You never know whats going to happen, regardless of the quality of the work (UNLESS they go for ambigious ending. I fucking hate that)-.

The trailer looks pretty silly, but so did - well, most of the advertising for the first film, and look how that turned out. It sucks they're going the same route for this one, but the plot synopsis has my hopes up, with it's mention of "forces leaving the world shaken," and Mumble getting all prophet-revolutionary and "uniting the Penguin Nations," plus the aforementioned rumors of the alien subplot.

When I was preparing for my essay on the film - which you can find in The Moving Arts Film Journal, end plug - I had a brief talk with Anton Ville, a primary concept artist on the film whose work in general I love, and he told me that, even besides all the alien stuff, when he started work on the film, it was far more darker, bolder and weird than what we ended up seeing, and that - yes, the final film was a product of executive meddling. Even so, it came out as a pretty damned great movie, in my estimation. Still, I'd like to read and see just what this movie was, at its original conception.

Hmmm, I only really liked the music in the first one. I can see why people like it so much. The sequel seems really forced to me though, like they're just making it for the money. I guess we'll see.

The first one was okay, even though it turned into "OMG! Pollution has been destroying the penguins! Send in a rescue team!" The sequel does look like they're trying to go for a more relevant plot.

This is the most blatant cash grab I've seen out of a kid's movie. And this is the same animation studio who did Guardians of Ga'hoole? They devolved their animation quality back THAT quickly?

I mean... This is utterly shocking. What's even more disappointing is that everyone who has kids will go see this, thus making it a box office success.

Then again, there may be hope. Mars Needs Moms bombed for a reason. Hopefully, this will bomb as well. I'm crossing my fingers here.

It's opening against Breaking Dawn Part I. Which creates a hard choice: sequel to Oscar-winning movie with a lot of backlash or adaptation of a book that half of the Twihards hate.

[up] I doubt it. But I honestly don't remember the first film having a sequel until the memes popped up.
