Wick Migration

Go To

Some tropers (myself included) have been moving works from the Main/ namespace to the appropriate namespace. Unfortunately, some of these moves were done without the wicks being corrected to reflect the new namespaces.

There are more wicks than any one person could handle, so I'm posting here in hopes of getting help. Here is a list of pages that have been moved and need their wicks corrected. (Let me know if you spot any others, and I'll add them to the list.)

EDIT: The list has been moved to Administrivia.Wick Namespace Migration.

Add completed moves in Completed Namespace Migrations.

Someone else probably started it, but I just did The City & the City. I also did the pages I made mistakes on for Fablehaven.

ETA: Just done AntiHeroes.

ETA 2: all links to Bioshock Infinite now point to VideoGame.Bioshock Infinite.

Weird, it's customized on the page, but not here (anti-HEROES).

I'll add a post since it's now Friday.

All links to Grange Hill point to Series.Grange Hill apart from one which is a bug caused by the Troper Tales update.

NOTE on Crime And Punishment: If the link looks off, it may need to be directed to here: Crime and Punishment Series.

I never did it, but it looks like VideoGame.Super Mario Bros 3 has been finished. Only dead links (to contributor pages in Main that were moved) and phantom wicks remain.

VideoGame.Mech Quest can be crossed off that list. I also did the some of the links to Adventure Quest and Dragon Fable when they were listed together.

Main.Homestuck found on 2068 discussions (!).

Yeah. Some of these have an insane amount of wicks*

.

One of the main reasons I started this thread was that I saw Doctor Who had over 8400 wicks that needed to be changed. (It's down to ~2400 now.)

I changed my first post so works with less than 250 wicks to move are in bold. That should make it a little easier to find works that require the least amount of time to finish. And hopefully prevent scaring off people who are thinking about helping.

Speaking of Dragon Fable, it needs to be added to the list. It's a video game.

I never finished doing Crime And Punishment. I just warned people it could have bad wicks. Looking at it now, it does look a bit ambiguous.

How do you move liveblogs and reviews? That more forumy side of the wiki I know little about. (I've done all the wicks, and there was no discussion pages on anything I've done.)

Go to the review, and on the upper right, above the first review, there should be a button that says "Correct subject". Click on it, and you'll be given spaces for the namespace and page name. Just fill them in to the new page destination. I haven't moved liveblogs, but I'm assuming it's the same.

Also, all wicks for VideoGame.Adventure Quest are moved.

There were no reviews to move (someone else had done anti-HEROES for me.)

@Kris Mahai: Crossed Adventure Quest off the list, and added Dragon Fable.

@The One Who Tropes: Oops. Sorry about that. Crime And Punishment is back on the list. It gets its own little spot since the problem isn't the wicks still being on the Main namespace.

Game.Sonic The Hedgehog has been moved to VideoGame.Sonic The Hedgehog. Has about 111 wicks to fix.

all wicks done for Webcomic.Cuanta Vida. Just have to wait for the mods to move the discussion.

ETA: It's done. Cuanta Vida has been moved.

Cyberchase needs some work, but the redirect from the Main to WesternAnimation.Cyberchase should help.

I shall work on it. cool

EDIT: What I meant was—there are a bunch of wicks to Main.Cyberchase and I'm transferring those to WesternAnimation.Cyberchase.

(Edited. Misread what was going on in the related page.) Most of the Spongebob Squarepants wicks are on the plaintext version (1900+) while the page is under a ptitle. Is it worth rewicking? (Someone just moved it to the Western Animation namespace of the ptitle, which is what caught my attention.)

And, if it's worth rewicking, should we put it in the Western Animation namespace but use the plaintext title instead?

I'm also curious, once these are rewicked, is anyone keeping up on them to fix new edits that use the old namespace? (I check up on Zombieland about once a week.)

No, we're getting rid of the blasted ptitles. Put the page on WesternAnimation.Sponge Bob Square Pants.

[up][up] You know, that's true (your last paragraph). I wish there was some way to discourage using wicks to moved redirects or disambig pages, and/or to easily mark those types of wicks for needing fixing.

(I've been keeping an eye on Wing Commander, FWIW.)

[up][up][up] You should never be wicking to ptitles (except for indexing purposes). Always use the plaintext redirect (except for indexing purposes), or move the page off of the ptitle.

Main.Jack wicks need changing. Originally Main was used for the Furry Webcomic, but now a disambiguation for Webcomic.Jack and Film.Jack (Robin Williams movie). At a glance at the "Related to.." for Main/Jack most of the wicks are for Webcomic.Jack (though I haven't looked too closely, right now starting to go through some of the wicks and pointing them to the right spot on a case-by-case basis).
