Regarding the drug war:
They're not going directly against the Chinese government but "unfortunate elements" of it (regardless of their connections). Give them the chance to hit back at the Chinese and they'll take it. This is very well known issue in the US.
Nevermind that drug wars have never actually helped anyone.
Si Vis Pacem, Para Perkele@M84
- The voters liked his anti-crime pledge. Davao's an example of what happened in terms of law and order.
The candidates were at best okay with some issues:
Grace Poe - Allegations that she's not a natural-born Filipino. Conspiracies abound that her husband is a CIA agent even though he did technical stuff with the USAF.
Jejomar Binay - Family/Associates accused of corruption in Makati City. Also a personal reason why I was reluctant to throw my support for him since my dad backs him.
Mar Roxas - Said to do some public events for glory hound reasons. Not many people have nice things to say about his wife Korina Sanchez.

Duterte's interviewed by Al-Jazeera. It's on their official You Tube channel.
Read and judge for yourself.

Yup, this man loves China more than your average Chinese or someone with Chinese lineage. He really should just become the president of China instead of Philippine.
On a more serious topic, his pandering to China makes me think that he is an Asian version of Lukashenko.
Welp, it just happened:
Bless you Chris for pointing out China's (and to an extent, Duterte's) hypocrisy.
Gonna go take a look if those Dutert***s are spamming the comments...
EDIT: Huh... No sign of those Discount WumaodangDutert***s... Color me surprised.

"Learn as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow."A good non-partisan read on what could happen if Duterte continues on what he does and what could happen if Mar was the president.
Related with American-Filipino political relations.

Police van runs over leftists protesting in front of US embassy
This will get us kicked out for sure. Almost seems like something Duerte meant to happen, especially since this comes just as he is visiting China. I am guessing the US's approval ratings are a lot lower than 92 percent right now, probably below 50.
Edit: Also the country is due to be hit by a Typhoon. The worse in years. I expect Duerte will keep the US from doing anything and try to get the Chinese fleet to send humanitarian aid as part of a push to get the people to like Beijing more and Washington less.

I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.http://snafu-solomon.blogspot.sg/2016/10/massive-anti-us-protest-outside-our.html?m=1
Someone's idea on ending Filipino- American ties.
On the record, the MPD didn't order anyone to use a vehicle to disperse the protestors.
Duterte renounces U.S., declares Philippines will embrace China
. A lot of hot air, or something the U.S. should legitimately be concerned about?
I suppose that depends on whether the Chinese are actually answering his phone calls and giving something other than non-committal answers if they do.
I'm quite tempted to quote Bob Page on all of this...
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotHe's kinda mixed, even here in Manila.

Well, since they're so insistent on killing drug users and cosying up to folks who don't have any reason to trust them, might as well wait and let the long term consequences catch up to them.
Reuters reckons the US doesn't have that much leverage on Duterte
. Well, some US aides pushing for a harder tone is now known outside the Beltway...

Were the other candidates so awful that he was the best choice?
Disgusted, but not surprised
