x5 They didn't learn from Baby Looney Tunes...
Baby Looney Tunes was essentially just Muppet Babies with WB characters. Admittedly, the same is true for most of these "baby versions."
I did not see this coming. It's something called Tom And Jerry Special Shorts.

Edit: Michael Ruocco said how he and the people working on Looney Tunes Cartoons made these new Tom And Jerry shorts. It's for the 80th anniversary.

Here's an instagram post from Alex Kirwan about "On A Roll" from Tom And Jerry Special Shorts (which doesn't have a page yet). Instead of taking place in a sushi restaurant, it was originally going to take place in a Japanese cat cafe.
For the PGA Awards, Looney Tunes Cartoons got a nomination in the children's programming category.
New York Times is getting backlash over a critique of Pepe Le Pew, and people supporting it on Twitter are trying to get Pepe cancelled: https://www.complex.com/pop-culture/pepe-le-pew-rape-culture-criticism

Before a debate starts, what the article linked actually talks about: a writer wrote a critique an editorial about problematic classic cartoon characters earlier this week, which included Pepe, and the article covers the backdraft he got from the right wing community about it.
It does not talk about a twitter crusade to cancel Pepe. The entire article is a fluff piece about responses to that previous article, be they positive or negative.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. The Tweet by the New York Times columnist is here: https://twitter.com/CharlesMBlow/status/1368200161558663168
Most of the responses I saw on Twitter correctly pointed out that we aren't supposed to be rooting for Pepe in his cartoons. He's the butt of the joke. Thad Komorowski says it better than I can here.
And, of course, as in 2002, the Latino community expressed that, despite what supposedly sensitive people think, they actually like Speedy Gonzales. His voice actor in the new movie weighs in.

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."And Pepe also got cut from Space Jam 2 because of a scene he appeared in 2 years ago when the director changed: https://www.cbr.com/pepe-le-pew-cut-space-jam-2/. Just a heads up, this doesn't have anything to do with the article I linked before.
Edited by CookingCat on Mar 7th 2021 at 7:10:03 AM
Another clarification: the articles linked note that scene was cut at least a year ago, and thus does not have anything to do with the article posted this week or any responses thereof.
I'm not sure I like that specific response to the criticism, mostly because it compares unfavorably to - say - a more modern phenomenon of sexual harassment in anime. That characters like Roshi or Happosai always get knocked around for their harassment of the female cast doesn't mean their humor is necessarily acceptable from the point of view of a culture that doesn't think sexual harassment is funny in the first place.
I'm always reminded of a stand-up Dave Chappelle did like a decade and a half ago about how he has to be careful letting his son watch Pepe.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. It was found funny at some point
Doesn't mean they should keep doing it if the times lean against it
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.As I said on Twitter, if Pepe's role on the film was gonna be what amounted to hamfisted moralizing about sexual harassment, it's better he not appear at all.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."I'm just happy to hear that Speedy will be in the film, and apparently have dialogue. I wonder how Gabriel Iglesias' take will sound.
If I had a nickel for every film where Emma Stone falls off a balcony... I'd only have two nickels, but weird that there's two of them.Speedy was a regular on the Looney Tunes show, right? It feels like they loosened up on him once they realized Mexicans Love Speedy Gonzales.
Yeah. Pepe was also used, though not as much. He did get an entire song to himself.
This was 2011. We've regressed a lot compared to 10 years ago.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."I really liked Wabbit's take on Pepe. They reworked him as a parody of Hollywood leading men, so he was this suave spy pastiche who was less clever than he appeared.
This too. That scene read like a blatant PSA, so we're also probably well without it. If they're going to use Pepe, they ought to just rework him, and not go "You, Pepe, are a rapist! Stop being a rapist!" in bold font.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. This doesn't give a lot of hope for Fifi being in the Tiny Toon Adventures reboot, either.
Yeah I think the problem is chain reaction complaints, and that if one thing is considered un-PC another will be brought up to point out the hypocrisy of the speaker. People complain about Pepe and Johnny Bravo being perverts, others will retaliate with "Oh well you're fine with a cartoon girl being abusive for laughs, and they usually get away with it" and point out Fifi and the numerous domestically abusive anime characters.
Even if they don't necessarily take offence to those, they'll more than likely try to shut them up with an example they seemed perfectly okay with, though in all likeliness will just unintentionally get that boycotted too.
It's really a shame Pepe didn't try any other shtick during the original run, he could have at least had something else to fall back on.

There was Odor of the Day, but that's the only cartoon where he had a different shtick.

I always thought the best gag with Pepi was whenever he did get the girl he'd freak out because they were even hornier than he was.
Yeah, Pepe is the kind of Don Juan figure who suddenly gets very shy or outright frightened once a girl shows interest back.
Optimism is a duty.I still hate pepe. Just because a girl eventually reciprocates doesn't make the continued harassment where she very clearly is not okay with it palatable.
He's the one looney tune I would gladly see retired. And by extension fifi of tiny toons as well.
see my completed Tangled (Varian) fanfic collection! https://archiveofourown.org/works/24467056/chapters/59049532She'd reciprocate immediately if not for the stench
That's usually the joke in some shorts
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.
It's not that similar to Looney Tunes Show
The character designs are different
