I didn't play too many fan games but i did play 63!

I didn't like Super Mario 63 as a kid and I definitely don't like it as an adult. The horrible art style clash always drove me away from it.

That being said, SMB Crossover was my jam, even if I only ever played as Mega Man or Bass 99.9% of the time. Apparently a new version that uses WebGL is being worked on since Flash is dead, and new characters were confirmed. Fingers crossed for Kirby!

SMBX also still gets the occasional play from me, but I never realized how ridiculously floaty it is until years of not playing it. It also uses the Japanese SMB3 damage system (getting hit with a power-up always makes you small), which is no bueno...

I never played a Mario fangame. They just lack the professional expertise seen in the official games.

Overall I'd agree, Sturgeon's Law and all that. But that 10% that isn't crap is worth checking out.

I missed the part where that's my problem.

When going into the fan-game scene, you're looking more for competence than professionalism...

Otherwise it's really easy to miss the good stuff and anything that looks professional can still turn out disappointing.

The Purple Coin is one of my favorite fan games, it's just a short arcadey survival game as a coin against an onslaught of bros.

It's very likely Nintendo updated SMP to bring in the new online tech that they recently started implementing in games, like with Monster Hunter Rise.

Considering SMP is the first first-party game to use the Invite Online feature.

Mario Maker 2 question: are there any enemies besides Skipsqueaks that can keep up with treadmills in the 3D World style? I'm doing something that works well enough with Skipsqueaks, but it'd be better with something that doesn't jump...

[up]Gimme 5 minutes to do a quick playtest (I was just playing the game, looking for interesting levels to download). I'll edit this post to tell you the results!

EDIT: Unfortunately, Skipsqueaks (and by extension their spiky versions) are the only ones who can keep the pace. Bob-Ombs, Pokeys, Goombas, Spikes, Hammer Bros., Dry Bones and Koopa Troopas fall down, while Ant Troopers circle around.

After watching the Skipsqueak episode on the (sadly discontinued, as explained in a video) Item Breakdown series by Tobias Bergdorf, I came to regret not having fully exploited this enemy. In my level devoted to it, I focused on puzzles where you either had to avoid jumping too many times when going through narrow passageways, or had to jump so they gave you a brief window to run under them. I did include one puzzle where you had to make a Bob-Omb walk a passageway by jumping so the Skipsqueaks could let it pass, but in retrospect I wish I could have expanded upon that (and sure enough, I didn't realize back then that they could keep their pace when running on conveyor belts).

If (hopefully when) we get a Mario Maker 3, I'll make sure to fully exploit the unique elements of the 3D World style, as I hadn't learned to do so until ayfter they added the dotted-line blocks in it with the last update.

Oh, and when your level is ready, I'd like to play it. smile

I'll make sure to play them all (I'm watching a movie now, so I'll start after the movie ends)! [tup]

As for mine, it's best that I recommend you some of them, because there are 100 of them uploaded and some of them are... not very good (for the record, I never understood why Nintendo didn't extend the limit to 120, so I had to delete many of the ones which never got hearts so I could upload my 101st-and-onward levels).

A hundred levels?! That's nuts, dude, I'm never going to make that many. I'm slowly inching towards forty so I can finally put together a Super World. Thirty more to go! tongue

But BIG thanks for playing my levels! If you have any feedback for me, I'm happy to hear it.

Alright, I played all of your levels. Managed to clear them all except the one with Meowser. I had too much trouble luring the Cat Bills into Meowser, both because that jerk jumped downward often, and because the Bills don't home very accurately. I still hearted it, though, like all others.

These are some of the levels I created, in case you're interested in playing them. You don't have to play them all, this is merely a menu for you to choose. You'll notice that all of them have a world-level notation in their names, because I had envisioned them as part of a Mario game even before the World Maker update (which is why the notations aren't consistent in the levels present in my actual Super World — I used a different criterion to select the 40 levels that would constitute it):

  • From World 1: XW2-5DD-0CG (the arrow signs will tell you where the Thwomps will move. In the second area, you have to gather all key coins to open a door that takes you to the Super Star that will allow you do defeat the Thwomps that obstruct the way to the exit)note (spoilers)
  • From World 2: G6K-G3K-KDG (in this level, you have to use both checkpoints to use their powerups and make your way across the maze. Be very careful with the Bob-Ombs — after you open up their associated paths, they're prone to falling down onto where you are. If you take damage, you'll have to refresh the checkpoints so you get once again the required powerup)
  • From World 3: V07-2QP-BPF (a level dedicated to Piranha Creepers. Not too long, it's all aboiut paying attention to their patterns)
  • From World 4: 621-QP4-6GG (this level was actually played by a Spanish-speaking Youtuber; he liked it, but didn't heart it as he never rates levels for some reason)
  • From World 5: YWF-3TS-X7G and WNN-STT-0VG (this is a two-level duology. Both have the exact same design and layout, with the difference that one takes place during day and the other during night. As a result, in Part I you'll see the Angry Sun while in Part II you'll see the Moon. That sole change makes the route diverge completely after a certain point. I had created these levels in January last year and uploaded them two months later, but I re-uploaded them recently to fix some issues. Please keep in mind that, by necessity, one of the checkpoints can only be accessed in Part I while the other can only be accessed in Part II, so you'll inevitably need to survive for as long as you can or else you'll lose considerable progress)
  • From World 6: 6SV-YC9-LFF (the first 3/4 are a traditional endeavor, the remaining 1/4 has a puzzle involving the use of a Spike Ball but it's fairly straightforward. Many of the other sky or airship levels from this world are noticeably more difficult, especially 6-8 and 6-12)
  • From World 7: H63-96B-PTF (a bit of an Old Shame for me for two reasons: One, the average player is likely to suffer a key death; and two, I'm not sure if the overarching puzzle is clear enough. Here are two lifesaving tips for you: See the key coins located in the room with the twelve letters written with donut blocks? Collect them last. Also, the P Switch that is generated in the airship sub-area allows you to, when pressed, see the letters you have to pay most attention from the twelve-letter room when the level asks you the "password". When going to a specific area that forks from the P Switch's pipe, always carry one with you and press it whenever you see another P Switch alongside twelve breakable blocks on one side and a bunch of other blocks on the other. Once you figure out the password, you'll know which ? blocks you have to press in the vault past the key door. The second checkpoint awaits after that whole part, so all that remains afterwards is the battle against Bowser. Good luck!)note
  • From World N: 4BG-G02-1FF (a level inspired by The Legend of Zelda. One of the things I wished the most after the 2.0 Update was to make a Zelda level, though I patiently waited until after I wrapped up the regular worlds. The first half serves as a practice period for Link's skills, while the second takes you to a dungeon. Fairly difficult, but it's doable)
  • From World Z: H55-SVK-28G (the first half makes use of dotted-line blocks, which were added to the 3D World style in the 3.0 update. The second half is all about the ON/OFF trampolines; the part with the Fire Bros. is tricky, but care and patience will suffice there)
  • From World Q: BHS-2S3-1SF (a level that introduces the Super Mario Bros. 2 Mushroom. The first 1/3 is for practice, while the second revolves around luring the Angry Sun to the bottom as you first climb to the top and then dig back down among the cloud platforms. If you take damage, you can climb back to the top to replenish with another mushroom. The last third is a path to Wendy, who impersonates Birdo in this level)
  • From World R: FSF-B7J-7JG (almost all levels in this world are revamped versions of classic Mario levels; I think you might like this one most, as it's an amalgamation of castle levels from Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U, hence the level's name, which translates as "Castle of Memories")

Have fun! [tup]

EDIT: Fixed some code markups, as they were accidentally wikilinked. And yeah, one of the very few advantages of being locked in a house during the pandemic was that I had plenty of time to make levels. I must probably be the only person in the world who wishes Nintendo could allow us to upload all 120 possible levels in the Coursebot, especially since the downloaded levels are now in a separate section.

EDIT 2: I didn't propose any of the World C levels because they're lecherously long, difficult and traumatic. It's the last world, so every level is a Brutal Bonus Level like no other. tongue As for feedback for your levels, I don't see any issues with them; I was missing playing classic.styled levels so I enjoy greatly playing them! Like I said, the one with Meowser was mostly because I'm not used to luring projectiles into enemies (I did make a level with that concept, but used the Pink Mechakoopa missiles instead)

Been replaying Mario Kart 7 since it came with my New 2DS (despite me ordering the base model...). Man, making 150cc trophies count for the lower ccs was such a good change in 8. It's such a grind getting 3 stars on every cup on every cc.

Also, the lack of a singleplayer VS mode is still a really weird omission. I can't imagine it would have been hard to implement, they already have it for multiplayer. And they did update the game to patch out some exploits, which would have been a perfect time to add it in.

All that said, the base gameplay is still really good. I don't know why, but the steering feels way more precise to me on DS and 3DS than Wii and 8. The items can still be really annoying when a blue shell decides to screw you over on the last lap of the last race of a 150cc grand prix, but that's just Mario Kart for you.

The worst part about having to complete 50 and 100 separately is that, in 7, you only start unlocking characters in 150, so the only incentive to do the former two aside from 100% Completion is to farm coins to unlock the vehicle parts. It's a big shame, because I think Mario Kart 7 is a very competent game, the new tracks are awesome and the selection of retro karts is outstanding (it brings back GCN's Dino Dino Jungle, Wii's Maple Treeway and SNES's Rainbow Road, 'nuff said). My Top 3 favorite games are still Double Dash!!, Wii and 8 / 8 DX.

Also, time for address a very embarrasing mistake. The level code I gave to TC wasn't for 1-6, but for 1-7... the kind of thing that happens when I'm awake at past 2 am.
