I loved that the powerups were hats in 64.
I have just discovered this video. Thanks a lot, Charles Martinet.
135 - 158 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Hats aren't very exciting to look at, though.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Agree to disagree I guess.
I mean...they were already made into power up flowers in 64 DS.
And that's only because of Yoshi.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.A hat makes more sense as a power-up in a 3D game with a partly overhead camera, but in a 2D game, you need something "taller." That's why I suggested a metal mushroom or flower.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Would you believe that those mushrooms are the size of Mario's cap?
I wouldn't.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Here's a random ask. Does the Japanese fanbase see Kamek/Kamezard/Bowser's Nanny as a single character? Or do they treat him as just a goon species? I know that Kamek was a translation error that stuck around so I'm not sure if his fanon/expanded universe character of Bowser's surrogate father and sidekick is as big there.
He still has a different name from the rest in the Japanese version, Kamek is just the name of the species.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.In celebration of the most recent example of a Mario character talking, here's a taunt video:
And here's the "All cutscenes" video:
This one's more of a Rhythm Heaven video, but the music used is "Jump Up, Super Star!" and it's one of the best "Custom Remix" videos I've ever seen:
There's a Nintendo Direct "leak" going around that claims a ton of things are coming to the Switch, including a new New Super Mario Bros. game called New Super Mario World, featuring Wario as a playable character.
How would y'all feel about that?
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?A new New Super Mario Bros. game with a character who might actually play differently would be a pleasant surprise and be a breath of fresh air for the series.
"Okay, yeah, I guess Ollie fits the goofy sidekick role, but being a princess doesn't mean I spontaneously sing about everything, 'kay?"Playing Super Mario RPG again in the hopes that doing so will warp reality and get Geno into Smash.
I've played this game twice and I never knew you get extra when picking bonus stats after leveling up by choosing the right one. I just figured it was random.
One of the most infuriating things about this game is that the party screen can fit six characters but you only ever get five. I wonder if that drove any kids in 1996 crazy looking to unlock Yoshi or Jinx as the last party member.
POW on multiples of 3, HP on multiples of 3 plus 1, and Special on multiples of 3 plus 2.
As far as obscure little tidbits of SMRPG go, have you ever tried overstaying at the Marrymore hotel and getting forced into bellhop servitude? One of my favorite easter eggs with an odd amount of development put into it.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Luigi, probably, since he has a wish on Star Hill.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Doing 30 Super Jumps will be the death of me. I'm not even going to try for 100. I'll go insane.
Oh hai Geno.
Can Culex and Jinx be reasonably beat without the reward for 30 super jumps? I dunno if I can do this. I can't get past 14 jumps.
Also do the first four jumps before the chime changes to the 1-UP noise count to your score?

Did You Know Gaming? does Super Mario Odyssey. Featuring former Game Grump Barry Kramer.
One thing that pops out to me is that "Jump Up, Superstar!" was completely rewritten when translated. The localizers did an amazing job there.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Dat Forest Maze BGM. Unf.
@Karxrider: The Japanese version is better. It has the word "shoobidoobida" in it.

De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Everything in the game can be beat without the rewards for 30 and 100 Super Jumps. And it's really not that hard.
In fact, in all my history of playing the game, I've never gotten the 100 Super Jump reward, but I've done everything else the game has to offer. Maybe I just lack the coordination, or maybe my TV is too new for the framerate, I dunno.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! There are a few things I've never done. I've never had to work as a bellhop in Marrymore, I've never gotten the Super Suit for doing 100 consecutive Super Jumps, and I've never gotten the thing you get for climbing the cliff at Land's End fast enough. I've done everything else.
Honestly, doing 30 consecutive Super Jumps is a piece of cake. You know what's a pain in the ass, though? Getting the Star Egg.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?TMW Mario has to be physically restrained from beating a child.
A thought I had the other day: I can't believe the Metal Box/Cap has never been in a 2D Mario game. The ability to walk underwater like you're on land, and immunity to strong currents, sounds it'd be very fun and handy there.
That having been said: while Metal Mario is cool, the Metal Box/Cap is kind of lame. I suggest making a new power-up that has the same effect. A metal flower or mushroom, maybe.
