I wonder if the general attitude towards intermission tracks will by association invoke Condemned by History regarding no-steps-back tracks such as Mount Wario and Mario Kart 8's interpretation of Rainbow Road 64.

ASAB: All Sponsors Are Bad.No, people hated those things even when they were new.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Really? I was under the impression that at the very least Mount Wario was pretty popular.

the thing about MK8's version of 64 Rainbow Road is that it already was a Broken Base
some people didn't like how short it was, some people liked it just being back (it's even listed on BrokenBase.Mario Kart 8)
however, Mount Wario is a fantastic track with a lot you can do
MK8 purists definitely aren't going to dog on one of the best tracks in their game and intermission enjoyers probably do like the track itself so everybody wins

since when 😭 i NEVER saw anyone talk shit about Mount Wario
And Mount Wario? You have basis for saying "those things", plural, right?

Out of the 10 tracks in the series that are 1 lap tracks, the only two I hear anyone complain about are N64 Rainbow Road in 8 and Mario Circuit in World. I also never hear anyone talk about Los Angeles Laps in the BCP, so I assume it's forgettable.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Not to mention the popularity of the two Wii Sports Resort courses and Rainbow Road in 7.
I get that intermissions in World aren't everybody's cup of tea (me? I like some, I dislike others), but I doubt the concept as seen in previous games will get any retroactive flak because of this. It would be extremely unfair, IMO.
EDIT: Also, World itself has DK Spaceport. And that course is a W for me.

135 -> 180 -> 273 -> 191 -> 188 -> 230 -> 300 -> 311Generally, the gripe with routes afaict is more just how they feel same-y and lack as much spectacle or pizazz as the actual tracks, most of the time.
Goes without saying that the segmented courses in previous games didn't really have that issue, since the segments all played around the course's theme. And the aforementioned segmented tracks in World (Rainbow Road and DK Spaceport) don't have that issue either... and if anything are welcomed because you always get to do the full course for them online.

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaI think its possible the intermission style will be seen as a failed experiment in future games, but I do think its weird to be fully anti against it in this game. The interconnection was what the game was built and sold on. Yes, there should be a mode or option fully for 3-lap races. But otherwise, I don't really agree with the anger towards the game not being that.

I do suspect that the heavily negative reaction to it here may mean we're unlikely to get another Burnout Paradise-style "the setting is in a huge open world and the races are built around being emergent through points on the map rather than with distinct looping tracks" concept for a game like this one for a very long time.
I feel like much of the anger towards intermissions would have been averted had Nintendo just included a 3-lap mode for Grand Prix and online, but at the same time that would arguably defeat the entire purpose of World. Why construct a sprawling open world when fans just want more of the classic Mario Kart formula?
I expect any emerging backlash against World to coincide with people being tired of open world games in general. The "open sandbox fatigue" as I shall call it. And that people will be begging for most franchises to abandon the open world formula in that case.
As I said in my review, I feel like 'World's main issue isn't its open world, but the fact it has to compete with 8 Deluxe. Given the gap between MK8D and MKW, people's expectations for World were HUGE, and it was inevitable people would find a step down from the previous game. World is a solid game IMO, but it will remain stuck in 8's shadow unless Nintendo fixes or at least improves World's biggest flaws through updates.
This
Majora's Mask video where someone made a walkthrough of the game translating what they could from Japanese made me re-find a Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door walkthrough
that did the same thing! (As a kid I was so enamored with the idea of Peach being the final boss that I stuck the description of the climax from the walkthrough into a word document and read it like a book...especially since they give 0 tips on actually fighting the boss. LOL)
I found an old review
that uses the same translations. I wonder if it was written by the same person.
At this point I think Nintendo will have to take the L and give the option to skip intermissions or else people aren't going to be able to keep looking past that. I do expect that they're probably already considering it as we speak.
I love MKW and personally do not mind the intermissions based on what I've played of it (heck, I still plan to get MKW once I finally get a Switch 2), but it's clear that it's a sincere deal breaker for a not insignificant amount of people (and not just the usual Nintendoomed crowd who already thrive off Nintendo making "bad" decisions) despite all of the many other ways that MKW genuinely improved on the MK formula.
"Hey, least I didn't lose all my artistic talent when I crash landed in the arena here."That's honestly such a hilarious concept.
A game company forced to rework a major mechanic of their game just because fans couldn't handle change.
Gamers are too used to playing the same game for such a long time that new games might as well be pointless.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I think its funny that people want Nintendo to listen to their feedback and make the changes they want... And they refer to it as "taking the L."
I swear, people have really weird ideas about how Nintendo's "mind" works...
I finally unlocked all the characters in World.
Let's just say I'm glad that Fish Bone is already dead.
Your melody still remains in this room and it rings

All I know is that I'm dying on my hill of being on the side of the online players who just want their online races to not involve Intermission Tracks, and if that makes me the bad guy in these forum threads, then fuck me, I guess.
