Marge, obviously, for most of the reasons pointed out in this thread.

Pretty much everything I was going to say but in one sentence.

And then there's Lois telling two of her kids how their births were accidents.

And her doing drugs during her pregnancies.

I have a message from another time...

So if you think Marge is the worse mother then you must be trolling.

I dunno, Lois seems like a really cheap character right now. Nothing but a Distaff Counterpart for Peter, sociopathic Hyenas bullying their family and friends For the Lulz. Not to mention almost all of her flaws are isolated Rule of Funny moments, so she doesn't develop for them, and rarely even gets called out for them (Peter is a Karma Houdini but at least most of the cast acknowledge he is a monster).

Francine and even Marge have similar moments but at least their flaws are more distinct and occasionally story driven. They seem to at least have more character outside "Closer to Earth character that randomly acts nasty". I also like how they have more of a depthful connection with their husbands. The odd time they play up it is often Homer or Stan who act as the voice of reason for once and allowed to show why they are even a couple. Peter is too brainless and void of redeeming aspects to ever fully foil Lois like this.

[up][up] Relax; you're not supposed to take anything that happens in Family Guy seriously.

^ He's not, he's countering the claim that Lois is a better character. He's right, she isn't, really. She might have had the potential to be earlier on, but she didn't turn out that way.

Marge, for sure. She's not perfect, but God knows, she tries. Lois doesn't even do that.

[up][up] I admit I sometimes get a bit overengrossed by how fiction works at times. I look at some previous comments I make and just cringe at them for how much of a pretentious ass I sound (or read).

As mentioned before though, yes Family Guy isn't made to be serious, it's pretty much all Rule of Funny, but that's exactly why characterization is so weak, and even a highly comical show can make very complex characters sometimes.

Marge. She tries to care for her family all the time, rarely makes a decision that hurts them, and, more often than not, saves them all from death/serious harm. About her only bad choice is staying with homer after everything stupid he's done. Though she's likely realised everything he does solves itself by now.

Lois is often uncaring, or abusive, though does care at times. Her treatment of meg puts her WAY behind Marge though.

Marge. Isn't Lois supposed to be a terrible mother?
