Marge vs Lois:Which Mother is Better?

Go To

Okay I'll say that Lois is the worse mother because she does almost nothing to stop Peter from abusing Meg,and half the time she acts like a Distaff Counterpart to Peter which contrasts the stereotypical Closer to Earth vibe the audience is supposed to get.But she does care about her kids

Marge really loves her kids though,is the first to support Lisa {especially in Season 1}.But she's also religiously intolerant [ex: The episode where Bart goes Catholic and more mild Lisa goes Buddhist],and seems to go to Knight Templar levels to protect her children sometimes.

Inspired by the Peter vs Homer thread, except this one actually is a bit of a toss up

And if you must you can add Francine from American Dad

Let's see, Lois wants her daughter to be a whore, neglects Stewie and um, I can't think of anything she's done with Chris, but I'm sure there's something.

Marge lets Bart run rampant, puts Lisa in a box, and leaves Maggie in the care of her father. Also she serves them all salt-ridden pork.

I vote Wilma Flintstone.

Lois. She seems to have more than one dimension to her.

  • +1 Marge( no contest) , she is alway there for her family bow Lois... Just lookm at Meg. Marge would have never let that happen to Lisa.

She is imperfect but caring.

Marge. She's often the voice of reason in the Simpsons family and isn't incapable of saying "I love you" to her daughter, like Lois is.

Marge is a way better mother than Lois. At least Marge shows that she cares for her kids rather than Lois, which she doesn't.

Marge.

She cares about her kids, even if she's not always perfect.

Marge, no question. Because there's a difference between having dumb moments and being a dumbass.

Wilma's canon hasn't allowed her to be a mom besides of caring for Pebbles. So, I don't know how would she be when raising tweens or teens.

Marge, with Francine in second place, and Lois in last place.

Okay Francine may not be the Jerkass Lois is,but c'mon she's mentally unstable and honestly I can't think of a single thing she's ever done for Steve [since Hayley graduated]

Lois may have been Flanderized into Peter's Distaff Counterpart, but at least I can recall a time when she was being just that " a mother" and she isn't really bigoted against Catholics/Buddhists [Marge] or Left-Handed People [George Clooney]

Honestly I really think given how both Marge and Lois are the stereotypical Closer to Earth,Only Sane Man type of people who never get jobs it's a lot more of a toss up.

I mean Marge certainly wins because she hasn't been so Flanderized, but c'mon its not like Homer vs Peter at all

I've come to hate Lois. She's just terrible, as bad as Peter if not actually worse. Marge and Francine get my vote.

Wait, is this a debate on which Housewife is a better "Parent," or a better "Character?"

Yep, I'm still here.

not really a debate, just a sounding board. Say what you feel.

I think Marge's a better... parent/mother because she gives her children free papers in their lunch bags saying nice stuff and she openly says that she loves her children, plus she was a policewoman at one point, which is a job worth with a protective edge. Lois has 'issues' with Stewie and her daughter, nuff said.

Originally it was a Distaff Counterpart to the Peter vs Homer which the consensus was Peter was worse.

I wondered what the case was for who was the better or worse mother between Marge or Lois and since originally both of them were Closer to Earth I figured the responses wouldn't end up like they did.

That's okay though,great thread.

I also knew that eventually American Dad would get involved in this so I was like "Ok you can add Francine"

The Pebbles And Bam Bam Show is so blatantly sexist (see Mayor May Not) that I wouldn't say it exists within the same continuity as The Flintstones.

I wasn't this thread existed. And why such an obvious answer needed a question.

Why did Peter vs Homer need to exist?

And besides Lois back when the show was more down to earth (think pre-revival) was actually a comparable figure.

Since the original conversation eventually veered into Peter vs Zeus for a brief time, time for the return.

Who is the worse parent: Lois, or Hera?

Even Francine has her abusive moments (Iced Iced Babies is a particularly creepy example). It's hard to really define their personalities since Straight Men in their respective shows have came to be defined more by Rule of Funny. Francine, Lois and even Marge are good loving parents, when it fits the scene, otherwise they can be as bad as their shows' biggest Jerkass characters.

Overall however I'd say Marge is the least erratic and more consistantly benevolent character. She has her bitchy moments but at least doesn't border as much into out and out monsterous territory like the others do sometimes.

@ OP - Marge. Hands down (I can attest that from when the Simpsons was a god show to me worth watching, BTW).

Anyone else is dead last to me, unless someone can name a better mother character than Marge worth highlighting here...
