I might have to watch Sony's E3 conference. Normally I just watch Nintendo's and get some info about what Sony and Microsoft are doing from various other sources but I think I need to see it just for the last fifteen or so minutes.

And Kingdom Hearts III.

Honestly, it was closer to half the conference. From around the time they brought out the indie developers, Sony had it in the bag.

The first half of the conference is kind of boring, actually, but I recommend watching the whole thing just because it's so easy to pinpoint the exact moment the crowd started to realize that something big was about to happen.

Right. I personally thought Sony's conference was badly paced at times and had some bizarre segues (NBA to Elder Scrolls Online with no break in between? What?), but the tail end of it was well handled, from Jack Tretton to the price announcement. They undercut Microsoft magnificently.

Satoru Iwata blames Nintendo's lack of marketing for poor Wii U sales.

Good to see them acknowledge it.

Now do something about it.

I think that's only part of the problem. Another problem, I feel, is that it doesn't have a ton of great games that can't be bought on other platforms.

Obviously that's going to change, of course. There just hasn't been much in the way of a system-seller yet.

If they can start selling systems, then more games will come as a result. It just needs to break through that barrier.

I have a message from another time...

Just because they'll sell systems, which is still a big "if", doesn't mean games will just come to it. The Wii sold more than the competition and look how little non shovelware titles it got. There's the power issue, and with all developers eager for the new consoles, the WU is facing an uphill battle.

They can at least start by making the strong first-party titles Nintendo is known for.

They should buy back Rare's old IPs.

That only works if they're actually for sale. Which they're not.

It also requires them to want a bunch of old IPs when they have their own stable of them.

CassidyTheDevil Since: Jan, 2013

Why wouldn't they want them? They're among the best-selling games Nintendo has ever had, and had immense critical acclaim.

I don't think the problem would be wanting them so much as Microsoft refusing to sell them.

And with Killer Instinct announced. It's most likely they will use those IP's.

Also worth noting that they could just revive one of their older games as a "new" series like they did with Kid Icarus. But then, it'd need to be one that wouldn't be made into yet another sidescroller. Nintendo has enough platformers.

Which leaves... Uhh... I actually have no idea... but, to be fair, I wouldn't have expected Kid Icarus to be made into a third-person shooter/rail shooter hybrid.

I disagree. Well, maybe sidescrolling platformers yeah...But there's hardly any 3D platformers anymore. Actually, there's hardly any platformers period. :V

Considering Nintendo Land, it seems that that Nazo no Murasamejou will be made in the mould of a FPS/lightgun game. Perhaps a Joy Mech action RPG would work?
