There's a few examples halfway down Math, and I know I've seen it other places.

An easy fix.... right?

That's because this wiki doesn't use Unicode. Yes, yes, And That's Terrible. But it's not changing any time soon. Use a URL shortener like tinyurl to compress the links.

I think the OP refers to using Unicode in the link name rather than the link URL.. Example down the Math page:

Or even base φ

The code I posted here:

Or even base φ

The wikicode that sprouts such abomination in the page:

Or even base φ

Of course, substituting for the actual Entity doesn't work either as I've shown above and as I assume the text was inserted initially (I've seen some Unicode characters be substituted upon page saving; particularly noticeable when one edits in Spanish). There, URL shorteners absolutely do not work.

For the record, this worked at some point in very early 2010 when I first write references to the Nidoran article, where the symbols for male and female were used for links.

Oh, you mean using Unicode in a Pot Hole? Yeah, that's not supported. I'm not sure what gave anyone the impression that we ever supported Unicode, though — we don't, period. Never have.
