Female protagonists.
I also like characters with mysterious backgrounds with no intention of revealing their backstory (admittedly this only really works in supporting characters).
Fantasy story involving some sort of Found Family.
Any fantasy/supernatural story that involves history or historical figures.
Lesbian couples and dead dads (the latter because what happened to my dad makes it easy to write)
Furries, supernatural/magical elements, LGBT charactersnote , loss of body partsnote , barefoot charactersnote , mental illness and trauma, strained relationships, friendship over family/romance, autistic characters, and more.
- Protagonists with Deadpan Snarker tendencies who serve as The Gadfly, and are often Bisexual. If they're a girl, expect them to be a Brilliant, but Lazy Tomboy.
- Cloudcuckoolander secondary antagonists.
- At least 3 LGBTQ characters not counting the Protagonist
- defying Everyone Is Bi by having multiple characters who turn down the protagonist or anyone of the gender they're not attracted to.
- No Fourth Wall, which may be played for laughs, drama or horror.
- lots of Danganronpa and Persona references.
- Surprise Creepy. Lots of Surprise Creepy.
- Having insanity/Mind Rape as plot points.
- World of Ham.
- at least two characters (male or female) who've got legs.
- Weebs, rabid shippers, trap music, and as of recently NF Ts as Acceptable Targets. For the former, expect there to be an "Anime fans on prom night" joke involved.
- Lots and lots of Fauxshadowing, especially towards more sensitive topics such as gender identity.
- if a game has multiple routes, expect most of them to have a Sudden Downer Ending, and the Golden Ending path to be Extremely hard.
- A Chuunibyou who acts like they're from a different game/franchise and constantly spews references to it.
- A Joke Item called a Gay Bar, which is literally a sentient 200-year old chocolate bar constantly sporting a Cat Smile. Expect the description to have plenty of Lampshade Hanging.
- An Only Sane Man who intentionally barely emotes to piss off people who think they're being sarcastic.
- If a game has fantasy elements, expect there to be lots of biblical stuff, with some Cthulhu mythos thrown in for good measure. Whenever this is the case, also expect there to be a Bonus Boss fight in hell against Hitler.
- Speaking of biblical stuff, Satan will usually be either good or have Blue-and-Orange Morality. His personality will be extremely flamboyant and he laughs ALOT.
- There's always at least one Bitch in Sheep's Clothing.
- Every character Would Hit a Girl.
- The protagonists usually create a Gambit Roulette to thwart the Big Bad, which proves effective in stopping one of their plans but doesn't actually defeat them.
- Bishonens and Bifauxnens.

I was told by an acquaintance I roleplayed with that I always 'play an insane lesbian' which while a crude way to put it, I guess gets the point across.
I would say I do a lot of writing wlw and nblw characters with mental health issues, and occasionally the ability to crush a watermelon or skull between their hands.
My google search history is full of mental illness research and homoerotic sapphism. Send help.
Unusual martial arts, cool knives, queer female protagonists, muscular and physically strong women, surrealism, clockwork, etc.
Muscular people, usually women. Ironically, I also enjoy including the "small girl with rally big weapon" trope. I also like including characters who are Really 700 Years Old so long as they are wearing the appropriate clothes.
I forgot if I posted here before but mine are:
- Stories about pregnancy and raising kids in general. I think it's just really sweet explorations of characters and is a good opportunity to make clever Fan-Created Offspring designs.
- Really weird off-the-wall troubled female characters.
- Characters who are streamers, gamers, and media critics, because those are the people I watch on Youtube.
- Dysfunctional families and how they influence each other.
- Psychology in general, especially accurate depictions of stigmatized mental disorders like DID, OCD, or personality disorders.
For me it was these tropes
All Speculative Fiction Tropes Gender Blender Name Shapeshifting & Transformation Bodysuit Related Tropes(such as Latex Bodysuit or Skinsuits) Various Type of Kitchen Sink Tropes Multiverse Crossover Shared Universe Author Avatar

- If the setting has nonhumans, a Token Human
- Lots of banter
- Frequent use of Mundane Utility
- A protagonist who’s a foreigner of sorts, whether a refugee, recent immigrant, or generational immigrant
- The kindest and most humble characters having body shapes that contrast their expected personality. The woman would be very busty and sometimes curvaceous but not a seductive hooker. The man would be a hunk but not a jock.
- A scarred, jaded and elderly veteran, who may be either part of the heroes, a neutral party, or the antagonists.
- A device or method that heavily transforms the individual for the worse, whether into a willing servant or a mindless husk.
- The phrase “Evolve. Embrace. Exterminate” that means the user or faction is up to no good.
- Fighter planes or dogfights in general involved in some capacity.
- A lightsaber esque weapon
- Exploration of the true meaning of a word.

- A clear anticapitalist and antifascist throughline.
- No humans, or failing that, a hard aversion to Humans Are Special.
- Synthetic lifeforms of some description, be they fleshy or mechanical depending on what fits the specific setting. They may also have extensive interactions with the natural world and organic life.

Giving simple names to the most horrifying, powerful, complex people and things.
All my works have symbolism and are tropy.
- Authorities are either incompetent and oblivious, or outright malicious.
- Lots of loner characters.
- A general sense of fatalism.
- Any romances are typically short and unhappy.
- Ambiguous endings.
I posted on this thread a year ago, but that list has expended quite a bit.
- I still love dem Historical Domain Characters, especially the superpowered kind. Even in works that don't have them, I tend to name characters after and base them off historical figures
- Royalty. Especially royal women. Especially white-haired royal women (I'm a sucker for white hair).
- Any form of Speculative Fiction, especially regular Fantasy, supernatural stuff and Urban Fantasy.
- The angst. Characters will suffer and go through trauma (and/or deal with the already existing trauma and mental issues they had before the story began) but they do end up getting better.
- WOMEN. I'm a Bi-sapphic gal that happens to connect more with women, so yeah. Only 1 out of 3 of Main Characters of the stories aren't female. Thus, there tends to be more girls than boys and genderqueer in the casts of my stories.
- A decent amount of stories end up having pregnancy and childbirth. I don't intend to have kids but I'm interested by the pregnancy/childbirth thingy.
- Mother-daughter relationships. They tend to go in-hand with the pregnancy/childbirth I mentioned earlier (since outside of the occasional different gender multiplies, the baby is always a girl) and the relationships are typically loving and nurturing, with the mother always going out of her way for the sake of her daughter.

One of the players in my Dungeons & Dragons campaign pointed out that I am basically incapable of running a campaign of "pure" fantasy. Sooner or later, I decide there's some sci-fi element that I want to include, whether directly (e.g. Barrier Peaks style ruins of a technological age) or indirectly (e.g. Dungeon Punk Magitek). This extends to my writing as well, as the massive presence of the "Dead Gods" will attest.
