Talia ducks nonchalantly as the mosquito lunges, "Predictable. I saw it coming before I even finished explaining the idea." Talia rolls to the left and draws and throws a knife at Alex. As she attacks Talia says, "I do like that you attacked before getting the instructions, very useful. Surprise is often your biggest advantage on the field. You win if you can hit me, physically, and I will try to do the same. Either of us loses if we destroy any plants. This is a lesson in controlling your power."

After a moment, Cato would feel something touch the back of his neck. "And how," said an amused voice, "Did you avoid getting noticed? Don't turn around, and don't you dare make a sound. They can't see me- You'll just look like an idiot." The voice paused. "Finish your drink, then walk outside. I will be behind you the whole way, and believe me- What I've got in my hand here is far worse than a gun. Take my word for it. Don't even think about running."

If he craned his eyes, Cato might notice the reflection in the windows nearby, which showed (to his eyes alone) a man in a well-fit but outdated suit, a hat over his eyes, and the tip of an umbrella pressed against Cato's neck.

Leone smiled at the girl's enthusiasm. "Fine, fine." She hauled herself upright. "Yeager, I can trust you to hold down the for- The warehouse, right?"

"No problem, madam." The Forkstorm stood up, rubbing his face. "I assume you'll want Mar to open-?"

"That won't be necessary. I can open it myself." Leone stepped over to the burned circle on the ground, pressing her hand into the ash. She muttered a few words under her breath, and above the circle the light distorted and bent until there was a small sphere that shimmered like it was underwater. Leone straightened, panting from the exertion. "Alright, move on through- Just walk into it. We're heading to the Spirit Realm. A safe part, don't worry." She looked thoughtful. "Safeish."

The room beyond the hallway in which both Ferald and Ilsa stood was a large common room, built around a hearth that roared with a cheery flame. Almost twenty men and woman were scattered on its couches and chairs, or leaning against the walls if they felt particularly rebellious.

They looked (as most Cultists did) strange and varied in their clothing. A man in an elaborate armored skirt and leather shirt was chatting amiably, if incomprehensibly, with a woman who had metal nubs that pulsed with an inner light jutting out from a dozen places on her body. A woman near the back stood silently with a mask identical to Johann's concealing her face, and her aura flowed out angrily around her. A dark man in a business suit, sprawled out on a sofa, had a curved silver blade  in his hand. He flicked it like a switchblade and it vanished, seemingly into his hand. Three men, with identical faces but entirely different body shapes, stood at another side, standing in a circle and watching alll directions- including the walls.

Aanki was waiting near the hearth, idly listening to a man in a robe with a flail belted at his waist rant. At the entrance of Ferald, he looked up gratefully. "Ah, Mister Onager! Good to see you awake!" He hurried over, leaving the robed man to go harass the Scotsman and the Goth. "Welcome to our headquarters, and..." The bearded man glanced over at the others in the room. "Meet your allies. Well, some of them."

The businessman lolled his head over towards the two. "So, this is one of the so very rare Gifted of this world?" His eyes were focused, and it could be seen that he wore a ring on a chain around his neck. "I thought they'd gone beyond swordsmanship by now, and on to guns?"

The dueling Curse users in the courtyard might not notice it, but their match was being watched- On a third-story balcony, an old man stared down at them with an unblinking glare. He looked like an old Nazi scientist, a face full of hard angles and a head of gray hair, covered in scars and unhappy lines. He stood with help of a cane, emblazoned with the image of an angel with spread wings.

"So, this is the next one come to die?" he murmured. "He'll not stand a chance. Not with how close-knit the Masters are these days."

Johann 'stood' nearby, though perhaps a better word might be hovered. His mask bobbed once. "My old friend, have you no faith?"

"Not in the slightest, and believe me that it helps. What I said is what I mean- Even if both I and the Child stand with him, we can't take on four Masters, let alone sacrifice one to Root. It's just the truth. There can only be six, and he makes seven. It would be a favor if she killed him here, to all of us."

"Perhaps. Perhaps not. You know how often the Cycle changes, Fisk. Sometimes it makes... Exceptions."

"Not for my kind, it doesn't." Fisk looked away. "I'll do my best, don't doubt that, but when it ends... Just don't blame me."

Johann did not reply, his shadowy form fading away into the mission. Fisk moved to return inside, but not before taking one last look at the duel below.

"Enjoy it while you can, kid," he said, "Once they learn you exist, you'll never be safe anywhere."

Alex yelled as he barely avoided the knife. It shouldn't have been surprising coming from her, but it was still traumatizing. "Don't so that again!" he shouted. There was magic in the air, and the mosquito lunged at Talia's neck again, faster than before.

Talia side steps, and draws a knife, "Again with the mosquito, have some variance!" She slashes at, and misses the mosquito as it goes by. Her familiar begins to softly cry, to quietly for Alex to hear, yet...

So this is how it ends...? As he felt the gun to the back of his neck, Oliver's heart sank as he realized they had found him. He knew he should have run farther, hidden himself better. Then the assassin started speaking, "And how did you avoid getting noticed? Don't turn around, and don't you dare make a sound. They can't see me- You'll just look like an idiot." The voice paused. "Finish your drink, then walk outside. I will be behind you the whole way, and believe me- What I've got in my hand here is far worse than a gun. Take my word for it. Don't even think about running."

And then a realization dawned on him. He put down the newspaper and saw the reflection of his assailant. It was as if the room had expanded to accommodate the man standing behind him. This...Isn't right, he thought. And that's when his migraine returned, along with the glowing mark showing through his clothes. No longer able to think straight, he decided to comply with the orders and walked through the door.

But I, being poor, have only my dreams. I have spread my dreams under your feet. Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Alex was in flow. The mosquito was zig zagging in front of Talia's face. He mentally commanded the mosquito to lunge at Talia from her left side. Meanwhile, he held his pen like a dart and shot it directly toward Talia's torso in a straight line. "Hold still," he whispered. There was an unfamiliar sensation in his body. Magic?

Now! The baby began crying loud enough to be heard, so she knocked out the use of his arms and legs, but the magical attack distracted her long enough to get hit by the mosquito.

Alex's limbs became limp, and he began to cumbersomely fall forward to the ground. He eyes still worked, and he saw the mosquito make contact. She didn't try to dodge, and thus the pen plopped against her torso and fell to the ground. With no arms, there was nothing to prevent Alex's face from meeting the ground. His forehead took most of the damage.

"Ah! Damnit you crazy knife-throwing banshee mother!" Alex turned his head to the side; there was a bruise. "Oh god—ugh—hey wait. You didn't move. I said hold still and you didn't dodge again. Was that—oh, my head—was that magic? Did I win?"

Clive nodded in assent at Rachel's prodding, stepping over to the door, he palmed one of the remaining cards. In fact, he still had his own in his breast pocket, but it wouldn't hurt to keep a spare, just in case. Holding the portal for the remainder of their crew, he gestured vaguely at the black-haired man. "So hey, you, fireball-slash-Cast guy, what's your name? Don't think I ever caught it."

George looked up at the mention of him.

"My name? oh...Its George".

George did his best to smile.

"I'm sorry but I don't think I caught your name either".

George stopped leaning on the wall took a step towards Clive with his and extended for shaking.

He was getting nervous from this unexpected greeting.

Talia freezes from his spell, and smiles, "I believe this is what we, in the business, call an impasse. Neither of us can do anything to the other with out it being done to them. There were some faults to your strategy, but it ultimately succeeded in its goal. If you were not in this fight alone, you would have won, just as if I wasn't against merely one person, this would have been an advantage for me, as I would have taken out everyone, to just me being taken out." She releases the curse on Alex.

The blond gave the other man's hand a brief but firm shake. "Clive Mendel. Good to meetcha. I figured we ought to get introductions over with, you know, since we'll be working together for the next while. He stepped through, hoping that whatever he was going to land on (if he did end up falling through) would not be very hard.

Ilsa leaned against the doorframe as Onager left her sight. If someone wanted her to come inside, then shouldn't they call her out? Hundreds of lessons her old tutor had taught her about reservation and politeness flooded her mind, but she frowned and pushed them away. That was the past. Past was past.

And there seemed to be no one else in the corridor anymore. She was less afraid, and wanting to be spontaneous. Was there a mistake in suddenly being spontaneous for once?

She made herself presentable (tried to) and firmly knocked on the door where the voices came from.

"Yeah, I kind of forget at times the effect of learning about this on people. Omega... well lets just say that we tend to attract some quirky individuals" Rachel said in the most lighthearted tone she could conjure as she pressed the buttom that would take them to the lobby.

Since she brought up the subject of quirkiness, Rachel started to tell her recruits about the craziest members she had faced of both Infinatus and the Lesser Powers... However her tale was interrupted when she that they were approaching a presence.

Her expression suddenly turning serious for a moment, Rachel turned her senses to the person in the lobby... a Gifted.

"Well, well ain't we lucky. Kids, prepare yourselves... there's an unidentified Gifted in the lobby"

Alex's hands sprung to his head by reflex. He rolled over, and cumbersomely got on his feet and stumbled toward Talia, with one hand on his head. He picked up his notepad and pen on the way. He partly didn't want to undo the curse, as there's no telling what this person would do next. But, if she really wanted to kill him, she would have done it by now. "Rise," he said, and the mosquito returned to Alex, buzzing around his head. He intended for Talia to move freely as well.

Alex was beginning to get used to Talia's spontaneity. "I'm glad that somebody had fun," Alex said flatly while his head throbbed. "Miss Talia, are there any other new people? I met two people yesterday, in a room with an orange light. Johann was there, and he said that we would all have training."

At the sound of Ilsa's knocking Ferald nudged the door behind him open, finding his gaze drawn to the business man in particular. Before he could make a comment on the man's own choice of weapon, his sight was flooded in blinding green, radiating most brightly from the overdressed man sprawled on the sofa. His eyes adjusted quickly as the moment passed, though his head had begun to throb.

He felt his composure waver as he glared up at Aanki. "Tell me... can you or someone else here explain what the hell these flashes are?" He realized using a demanding tone wasn't the best way to make friends-or, possibly, to stay alive-but while the flashes were getting less disorienting, the increased intensity from that last one had begun to bother him.

I think every idea is a good one, except for the ones that are bad.

The man walked into the cafe - the same cafe that everyone else passed through at some point or another. He was short and stocky, clearly of Mongol decent, and smiling. He was wearing a brown longcoat, from which peeked a green shirt and a pair of baggy, black trousers. His name was Mordred Anaplian, and he was a tea seller by trade, and a Classical Literature enthusiast by hobby. Usually, his life was rather boring and unremarkable, but that was about to change - not that he knew it. Sure, a weird eight-like symbol appeared on his left palm a few days ago, and resisted all of his attempts of removing it; seeing that there was nothing he could do about it led him to get on with his life, seemingly forgetting about it. Sitting down, he politely requested a mug of spearmint infusion from the waiter, and opened withdrew a notepad and a pencil from a pocket. He started writing in it, muttering to himself in the meantime.
