"I'll take my chances with the hamster" Rachel says as she drops herself on to the couch face first "Anyway... I'm glad that at least Karth showed you something useful..."

The woman shifted her head a little as she spoke next "Simon make yourself comfortable... If you or anyone have any questions I'm still awake for a while... Otherwise get yo know each other and maybe get started on Clive's homework"

Ferald stood before one of the small room's walls, and pushed against it lightly. A section of the wall matching his frame fell over into another room, evaporating into green lights before hitting the floor. He stepped through the opening, revealing a spacious room illuminated by more lanterns.

Well now, that's convenient. Wonder what that implies about this newer, fancier hideout we're relocating to...

Striding into the center of the room and drawing his blade, he eagerly lost himself in the regimen of combat practice.

I think every idea is a good one, except for the ones that are bad.

"Homework..." muttered Simon. This makes it sound like a school...than again I am going to learn magic here...

Suddenly a thought popped up to Simon. "If magic exists...why wasn't it used to help people? It could of made lives better...it could have also saved people!"

"That's because up until we showed up, magic didn't exist. You need the Factions to do magic, and before they were here the world was mundane as it gets," Karth said, glancing at Rachel. "You might want to teach them about Binding mortals to the faction first. I doubt they'll be able to just kill a guy so easily."

"I've barely ever done that... But I see your point... Besides Simon should be great at doing just that" Rachel said as with a grunt she righted herself to sit on the couch "Alright kids, gather up for one last session before I turn in for the night"

"Binding?" asked Simon. Hearing the words 'binding mortal' did not bode well for Simon, he's now in the middle of a magical war after all.

"Yeah, binding. And calm down it isn't as bad as you think. It's a way to get energy back to the Faction without harming anyone. Of course, it's also the most bothersome and ineffective... but if you bind enough people there is a noticeable effect"

"Basically Binding is to mark a human for our Faction, from the which we take a little bit of magic constantly. The magic that makes this possible is Imbue... the which you seems very proficient at Simon... though don't worry Clive, you can use it too"

"Hardly." Clive lounged in his chair, looking mildly amused. "Even if you don't hurt them personally, there are still two other factions in this battle, and they'll have no such qualms. Meanwhile, while you balk at the idea, Infinatus and the Lesser Powers will only grow more powerful."

Of course...this is a war...at least one civilian will get hurt...

The fact that the world might end though...didn't make Aaron think less of the mortals. They shouldn't be slaughtered left and right because they are going to die soon...at least their last moments could be happier...

Maybe...I should find a way of protecting them...

Leone shook her head at Jason's reaction. "Chin up, boy. We aren't as monstrous as you seem to believe we are! But no, we aren't getting started today. You may return home for now, to see your families. Tell them or don't- It might be safer not to, but it depends. We'll keep them as safe as we can. And return here by ten in the morning tomorrow. That's when you'll start your training."

The other Cultists had begun to move away. Mar stepped over to a crate and pulled it open, revealing what appeared to be a doll or mannequin made of sticks and stone. It sat upright, then, pulled by invisible strings, lurched its way out the door. Mar followed, one hand on his sword. Garid sat down at the 'table' and began to eat, his face pale from his recent wound but he seemed unaffected. Klomasi and her sons Stayed apart, discussing something in low voices, while Yeager moved over to the wall and pressed a hand against it. Moments later, there was a clear chime, and he nodded with satisfaction.

"If you wish go walk around the hotel... try binding the staff to our Faction. It should be a good exercise for you" Rachel said, standing up from the couch "As for how to do it... Imagine an Omega brand appearing somewhere on their body. You may be able to do it without touching them, but it always helps to do it. Now... from that brand imagine you taking just a little bit of energy from them. An excess that won't harm them"

"Apart from that...well, you'll figure it out. As I said, magic is pretty intuitive. Now I'm heading to sleep... If there's some trouble... well I really hope there's no trouble tonight" The woman said as she headed into an empty room and closed the door behind her.

Looking at the elevator, Simon couldn't help but think marking was a bit on the unethical side. Still, the only thing refusal would do is piss off the cultists nearby. He pressed the button and waited for the lift to arrive.

"Family?... I live by myself... but that's ok."

"Well.... see ya all later, I suppose."

Jason backed out of the warehouse, got on his bike - and began to pedal away at an incredible speed.

Ok. Need to get out of here. Need to get ready.... Ready for anything.....

After 30 minutes of riding, going past the Mall, with no small amount of near- crashes on the way, Jason pulled up next to a sign, which proclaimed loudly in dreary, brown letters -

Welcome to Acacia Grove. Nice to have you here.

Ignoring it, he left his bike by the sign -

And ran into the elevator, taking it to the third floor, where his unit was. He had to hurry. He had to get to his family.

Before it was too late.

"Goodnight~!" the blonde called to his mentor's retreating back. "You wait here," he instructed the feline curled up at his feet, wagging a finger, "I'll be back soon." The quad-eyed cat mewled in affirmation, but it didn't look like it was getting up any time soon, either way.

Smiling, Clive headed out to the elevator, where Simon was still waiting for the lift. He made sure to take a card key along as well. Because why bother wasting the effort to magic open the door when you can do it the old fashioned way? "So," he began, shoving his hands in his pockets, "what's your take on all this?"

Once inside his apartment, Jason began rummaging through his stuff frantically, pushing apart piles of paper, looking under books - finally emerging with a key half- hidden under the bookcase.

There.

With that, he scurried over to his bedroom, where a large, ornate, wooden cabinet stood - oak, and quite at odds with the rather shoddy nature of, well, everything else in the unit. Applying the key to the lock, he swung the door open, to reveal a wallet, several diaries stuffed with notes, an expensive - looking fountain pen in a case -

A golden revolver - which enthusiasts would recognize as a double - action .357 Magnum - of very fine make, and a case of bullets.

Taking them all, he placed them in his bag with care, before running out again, locking the door.

Won't be back here for a while....

Arriving at the ground floor, and getting on his bike, he rode off, heading past the Cafe, to the subway station.

"I can... go home?" repeated Jack, relief washing over him. At last, he'd be able to get out of this place; be able to go home and just think. Completely forgetting to say goodbye to anyone, he moved out of the door and slumped against the wall of the warehouse with a deep sigh.

In a moment, he would begin to move towards his home. In the meantime, however, he just wanted to savour the moment of solitude.

I don't have any choice about this, he realised grimly. I have to return tomorrow. They're going to need a healer, and with or without magic, that's what I am.

"And you still feel that way now, knowing that one person's life is doomed to end prematurely, right along with all the rest of all the mortals you struggled to help?" Clive was disappointed the other Omega hadn't fully risen to the bait, but he hid it well as the elevator finally arrived with a chime and he stepped in, leaning against the back of the lift.

"Hrm, if you say so." Clive shrugged dismissively, jabbing the button for the lobby. The rest of the ride was oppressively silent, and as the doors slid open once again, the blond-haired man headed off in a completely different direction, waving backwards with a sing-song, "See you in a bit!"

Stepping out the side door, he emerged in the hotel's side parking lot and made a beeline for the car that he knew was his target. Appropriately, it was red. As he approached, a annoyed-looking brown-haired man in a white coat got out, glaring. "Do you have any idea how long it took to drive around town and do all that crap for you?!" the apparent doctor began without preamble.

"Ahhhh, sorry Ludo!" The psychology student backed up defensively, holding up his palms, "I had no idea I would need any of it. I'll explain soon, I promise."

The man, Ludo Burgess, deflated, palming his face. "Damnit, Clive, I'm a doctor, not an errand boy!"

"Eheheh," the blond scratched his neck sheepishly, "Sorry. It's actually something really important, though. You'll want to hear this."

"Really?" Ludo's head tilted. "So, what?"

"I'll show you in a minute. First, did you bring him?"

The doctor made a face of distaste. "Yeah." Reaching over to the car, he knocked on the window. Moments later, a balding, burly man in jeans and a wifebeater stepped out, frowning. The first thing the Gifted noticed was that the guy was covered almost totally in tattoos, at least one of which was a recognizable gang sign, and he nodded approvingly.

"Perfect! Alright, follow me. I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse." Clive grinned, spinning on his heel and striding away, Ludo and the thug following after him with confused shrugs.

There was a snore from the other end of the couch.

If no one had noticed, George was sound asleep dreaming of feeding the gorillas.

His backpack was leaned against the side of the couch unzipped.
