First thing's first: KEEP. THIS. SHIT. CIVIL. If you can't talk about race without resorting to childish insults and rude generalizations or getting angry at people who don't see it your way, leave the thread.
With that said, I bring you to what can hopefully be the general thread about race.
First, a few starter questions.
- How, if at all, do you feel your race affects your everyday life?
- Do you believe that white people (or whatever the majority race in your area is) receive privileges simply because of the color of their skin. How much?
- Do you believe minorities are discriminated against for the same reason? How much?
- Do you believe that assimilation of cultures is better than people trying to keep their own?
- Affirmative Action. Yea, Nay? Why or why not?
Also, a personal question from me.
- Why (in my experience, not trying to generalize) do white people often try to insist that they aren't white? I can't count the number of times I've heard "I'm not white, I'm 1/4th English, 1/4th German, 1/4th Scandinavian 1/8th Cherokee, and 1/8th Russian," as though 4 of 5 of those things aren't considered "white" by the masses. Is it because you have pride for your ancestry, or an attempt to try and differentiate yourself from all those "other" white people? Or something else altogether?

Ah, I see, thanks for clearing it up!
I definitely agree there some unique problems I have to go though, like general belief i can't understand math and science well (always gets me riled up!)
Also the way we encounter race and gender are very different. It's very feasible to only ever encounter your own race if you grow up segregated or just in a homogenous area. That's a tad more difficult with gender.

Read my stories!Thought so. And thus you continue the problems from yesterday by misrepresenting conflicts in other threads.
For those who care—-Yasmin crashed the Sexism Thread to defend a noted anti-feminist. When told she was making statements that were both misogynistic and rape apologia she tried to claim that we were insulting her and drew a false comparison between being told what she said was misogynistic, and being called the n-word.
My post that she just referenced is here
. I would respectfully suggest that further engagement on the topic will lead to a derail.

Sigh...look Yasmin. I'm going to extend what good faith I have left after the last incident and assume, for the sake of this conversation, that you are not trolling or trying to get a rise out of people. That you really are confused and unaware of how you are presenting.
You came into the Sexism Thread out of the blue to declare your love of a noted sexist. When people criticized her you made an attempt to defend her that involved belittling the incident of rape and referring to me as a SOB. Now I check into this thread, where I regularly lurk and sometimes post, and find you misrepresenting something I said in the Sexism Thread.
There's nothing wrong with having different opinions. There's nothing wrong with not having information and trying to get it. And despite your comment in the above post, not every difference of opinion needs to turn into a fight. Nobody enjoys fighting, least of all me. But for that to happen, we have to be able to exchange views, and for that to happen, you're going to need to understand that criticizing your views or the views of those you disagree with is neither insulting you nor trying to start a fight.
If you want to talk about Sexism that's great. If you want to talk about Race Relations, that's great. Nobody, not even me, wants to run you out of threads. But jumping from thread to thread and carrying arguments between them is not the way to go.

The fact that he kept trying to fire his lawyers
can’t have helped.

Normally, sure. But in this case? Roof entirely deserves it.
Copying my comments from the US politics thread:
Not sure whether it's a good thing what the reactions to that are. ~Aprilla did make a comment on this a year or so ago but I can't find it.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI don't know if this subject fits in with the topic of bigotry or not. But here is a recent comic of Vegan Artbook and it really burns me on so many levels. In the vegan community, there seems to be a subset of people who really have ableilistic tendencies like accusing those who cite their disability as not being able to go vegan as Disability as an Excuse for Jerkassery. The author of the series has been controversial due to her unpleasant views, and this strip will give her even more notoriety.

Well I’m not going to give her views then.
This thread is focused on racial issue, we may have a thread for general bigotry or a specific one for ablism, you’ll have to check.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI think the context of this is that a disability is no excuse to not go vegan, no matter what your carer, whose job is especifically to look out for you, says. This of course foregoes the fact that not all people can handle not eating meat or animal related products without it impacting negatively on their health or that most (if not all) humans need a balance of meat and vegetables to stay healthy.

Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.I want to say a lot about this, but it doesn't fit on this thread anyway. One thing I'll say: in the context of "being-the-Good-Guy" morality that a lot of people operate in, it makes perfect sense for vegans to take advantage of their position to judge and condemn others and give oneself status at the expense of others. Don't pay them any mind and just do whatever you want to do... and own the consequences.
Speaking of Get Out!, I've had the story spoiled for me to Hell and back. Is it still worth watching? It seems like a straightforward cringefest.
