First thing's first: KEEP. THIS. SHIT. CIVIL. If you can't talk about race without resorting to childish insults and rude generalizations or getting angry at people who don't see it your way, leave the thread.
With that said, I bring you to what can hopefully be the general thread about race.
First, a few starter questions.
- How, if at all, do you feel your race affects your everyday life?
- Do you believe that white people (or whatever the majority race in your area is) receive privileges simply because of the color of their skin. How much?
- Do you believe minorities are discriminated against for the same reason? How much?
- Do you believe that assimilation of cultures is better than people trying to keep their own?
- Affirmative Action. Yea, Nay? Why or why not?
Also, a personal question from me.
- Why (in my experience, not trying to generalize) do white people often try to insist that they aren't white? I can't count the number of times I've heard "I'm not white, I'm 1/4th English, 1/4th German, 1/4th Scandinavian 1/8th Cherokee, and 1/8th Russian," as though 4 of 5 of those things aren't considered "white" by the masses. Is it because you have pride for your ancestry, or an attempt to try and differentiate yourself from all those "other" white people? Or something else altogether?

I thought the Bait-and-Switch "Cautious Politician time" was Actually Pretty Funny.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I'm Jewish and I've heard the phrasing "Jewish Standard Time"- as that suggestions, this kind of concept is very much an N-Word Privileges thing (granted, in this situation the joke was set up with the participation of an African American artist) and if nothing else, doesn't seem like the kind of joke one would make if courting political office/advocating for someone else to be elected to political office.
How courts are using rap lyrics to imprison people of color.
There's lots of clickable annotations that you can click on to see some extended interview quotes about this.

You underestimate people.
One judge actually did write a rap for his final statement. The case involved Eminem being sued, though, so make of that what you will.
Speaking of Slim Shady, one of the comments mentioned him as an example of the difference in how white rap artists (and Motley Crue) and black rap artists are received. Now, to be fair, Eminem was met with a lot of controversy and protests by parents. But then again, he never had the FBI come after him.
I also think it's interesting how some people say that Eminem is the only rapper they care about. I would certainly like to hear their reasons and wonder if they would receive someone like Nas or Rakim.
i'm tired, my friend
I personally don't care for Eminem, and I mostly (rarely) listen to old west coast rap. Haven't heard any white swedish rappers, but the immigrant rap scene here is one I don't like at all. Not because of race, just the strange dialect and the awkward lyrics, that makes the whole thing really narmy.
I had a thought today about the BLM movement, and why their message is flawed. They'll protest to hell and back over one killing from a cop but a 6-month old baby is killed in a drive-by? Nothing. Being in the Detroit area I see news like that all the time.
Something about that doesn't sit well with me. I can understand the anger at quite honestly very, very suspect killings by police. To quote my buddy from the Army "why don't black lives matter to other black lives?" (he's a black man himself)
I dunno, I don't get it. I'm not trying to bash anything, just kinda wondering aloud.

Who are they meant to protect when it's a gang drive-by shooting? They can't exactly go stage a protest outside the local gang HQ, can they?
Plus does the guy who killed the baby normally get away with it? If the guy gets caught and tried there's not much to protest over, but when they guy gets away scott free there's plenty to protest about.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranAnd how do they protest that? Who do they march against? What names do they have that they can call to be jailed?
Protesting X organisation works because X organisation is a group that can be focused upon and called out, protesting a concept is a lot harder then that.

During New York City’s annual Inner Circle Dinner skit Saturday, Hillary Clinton and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) made a joke referring to “C.P. time,” an abbreviation for “colored people time.”
The audience wasn't happy.
What do you guys think?

Any group who acts like morons ironically will eventually find itself swamped by morons who think themselves to be in good company.
