Or maybe the current electropop movement?
I seem to remember a lot of people thinking that indie rock was going to set off some kind of backlash, but that didn't pan out...
You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat!I'm hoping for a huge backlash against post-grunge and electropop, but I'll settle for the utter decimation of scene. As to what will reign supreme? Meh, I'd place my bets on the resurgence of alternative hip-hop and progressive rock.

"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt." - Some guy with a snazzy hat.I'd like old fashioned Industrial to come back in... except it never was. :P
The 5 geek social fallacies. Know them well. There may never be another backlash. The concept of one hit wonder is all but dead now (due to the Internet) and some genres never seem to die despite everyone wanting them to (such as post-grunge).
Also, people can't see what's real and what's fake anymore (which is why Katy Perry is so popular despite her whole image being made-up by producers).
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/I hope dubstep gets it, it's annoying (srsly one of the very few genres I just can't stand). What will come next? I don't care, my taste in music doesn't change with trends
"Take your (...) hippy dream world, I'll take reality and earning my happiness with my own efforts" - Barkey
To be honest I don't know. I've been to a few clubs and parties that played dubstep (or what they think is dubstep) and some of people I know that listen to it have showed me some of this and I didn't like the music. I don't know if it was 'true' or not, but the vaccum cleaner-like sounds annoyed the hell out of me
While not painful, I do find turntablism challenging to listen to. Then again, I kinda like turntablism. I find it fairly avant-garde or maybe I'm still tripping off Wave Twisters. But we're not talking about turntablism here, just genres that we hope will die. If getting rid of dubstep cuts down on those shitty remixes on Youtube, I'm all for it.
"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt." - Some guy with a snazzy hat.If the slow-growing popularity of Animal Collective and their ilk is any indication, I'd wager that a movement towards more organic-sounding electronic music may be in the cards, perhaps as a backlash against the banal processed electropop that seems to be dominating that portion of the charts. That, and some kind of "new grunge" or "new punk," seeing as we're overdue...
To be honest, more freaks and losers on the charts would be nice.

I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception. As a rap-fan who hates all grime but Dizze Rascal and Wiley it suck's to live in the Uk. So I hope every grime "rapper" (Exept the previously mentioned Dizze rascal and Wiley) retire's and Rap Metal becomes the "Hot Trend" again (Though I'd settle for old school or late 90s early 2000s style rap to come back, I woulden't mind just good new school though)

Proveing 12 year olds are the filthist people around

As we know, progressive rock declined in popularity after the advent of punk rock. Similarly, grunge undermined quite a few mainstream rock groups which had been popular in the 1980s (that is to say, hair metal and some of the AOR groups).
These developments took place about twenty years apart. A similar timespan has lapsed since grunge toppled hair metal, so is it possible that we may see another "genre backlash" in the future?
If so, what would it be reacting to? What would set it off? What would be the new style that becomes prevalent?
