I'm more of the 90% of everything is average or mediocre school.
Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.90% (or 100%, even) of some things are crap. For example, Twilight fanfiction.
Sturgeon's Law itself is fine, but I think it needs to be clarified. "90% of everything you wouldn't like". I don't think it's trying to say that 90% of everything is objectively crap, just highly dependent on the tastes of the consumer.

You need an adult.Well, they say 62% of statistics are skewed toward pessimism, and the rest are all made up.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.I believe that not only is Sturgeon's Law true, but that 90% of everybody is a relativist, so 90% of people are just going to say "it's only crap to YOU". I believe there are standards you can measure art and other work to, and with those you can determine objectively that something is crap or not crap.
If you PERSONALLY like something that is crap, that's not "it not being crap". That's "it being a guilty pleasure". Objectivity just allows one to recognize that what they like is actually crap. Simply liking or disliking does not make something better or worse.
Honestly, relativists just tick me off.

Like a lot of you said, I think it's just that 90% of everything isn't worth our attention (though methinks the actual figure's closer to 99.38457%).
Though if everything was awesome, we'd be completely overloaded with awesomeness and paralysed by what to enjoy first, consequently enjoying nothing. So it has its place ~
Of course Sturgeon's Law is true. It's just that almost all of the 90% is so utterly forgotten that we don't notice it.
