Has anyone ever watched an indy anime (like not from a major studio)?

If seen indy manga before but never an indy anime , but I'm sure they exist.

But is it considered Indy when it employs actual professional V As in them?

Makoto Shinkai does everything himself, and I think his works aren't released through commercial distribution.

That was only true for Shinkai's first two works. The full movies have an actual studio (CoMix Wave) working on them
