Discussion of religion in the context of LGBTQ+ rights is only allowed in the LGBTQ+ Rights and Religion Thread
.
Discussion of religion in any other context is off topic in all of the "LGBTQ+ rights..." threads.
Attempting to bait others into bringing up religion is also not allowed.

I’m hardly dying on it, I’m just arguing that the situation is being handled poorly.
Believe me, when I decide to die on a hill my posts get a lot more intense than this.
Florida faculty at a high school would deny the gay class president Zander Moricz his speech if he mentioned his sexuality
. So he uses his hair as a roundabout way to do so.
I long for the day when schools like that would be stripped of federal funding as punishment for their bullshit.
That or have the feds go full desegregation and send the national guard down to ensure gay kids are treated equally.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."And Ohio now has a law that can allow anyone to challenge any child athlete and force them to prove their gender by getting a physician's statement.
Based on not just external anatomy, but internal anatomy, endogenously produced hormone levels, and genetic makeup.
Because wildly humiliating and attacking children with no cause and overly invasive inspections was the logical step, I guess.

That's, uh...very likely to lead to a lot of really confusing results and huge arguments.
We don't actually know what the rate of "non-standard" chromosome arrangements are or what the rate of non-visibly intersex people is because chromosome karyotyping is done only in cases where an abnormality is extremely strongly suspected, it's not done otherwise.
Also a non-zero chance of someone going around and challenging literally any child athlete they can find.

To be clear the Ohio bill has only passed the House so far. We will see if it gets passed by the Senate and signed by the governor. I don't have a lot of hope for our severely gerrymandered legislature, but there are still a few hurdles that could trip this up before it actually becomes law.
This signature was thumped to preserve the dignity of the moderators.I don't think the potential confusion is a feature. What happens if someone challenges the daughter of a major right-wing figure in the community and she turns out to have XY and androgen insensitivity syndrome?
Again, we actually don't know how common chromosome abnormalities like that are and the right-wing consistently either doesn't understand that or refuses to understand it.
It looks like there aren't actually any standards for what counts as a valid challenge, the Ohio GOP are almost certainly just assuming no one would use it against someone who looks cis to them.
Weaponizing the law against the GOP would be really awful for the children (who had nothing to do with it) but I have a feeling someone is likely to try doing that if this bill gets passed.

That's easy - they'll say this is totally OK. Given that LGBT-phobia is one of the principal reasons why children flee their homes, I think it's fair to say that ideology/hatred trump parental love a lot of the time.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. Both Texas
and Florida
are making considerations to consider banning having kids in the presence of drag shows. I'm guessing this is based off the "Drag Your Kids to Drag" show at a gay bar called "Mr. Misster" in Dallas that happened a few days ago. From what I've seen, there wasn't anything notably family unfriendly about the show, unless you think men wearing drag performance outfits are inherently family unfriendly. And yet, apparently this is a priority. I'm guessing this will also affect Drag Time story shows that pops up around some places. Now Drag isn't necessarily gay or transgender, but it is considered gender nonconforming and and attempts to regulate this will probably have non-drag LGBT shows.

They’re clearly already leaning on people, both the mayor of the fire department have pulled out of the event because of the ban.
The poor reasoning being provided hurts the argument more than it helps. Claiming that it’s because of potential police uniform induced trauma feels like a cheep excuse and it also importantly offers no way for the police to improve. If we want to use this to push the police to actually make amends and stop their bigoted oppression of the LGBT+ community than that should be said.
Going “the LADP is a institutionally bigoted organisations that hurts LGBT+ people and thus it is not welcome at Pride until it improves” is a clear statement with clear reasoning and a clear connotation for the lifting of the ban. While saying “Some attendees may find police uniforms traumatising” is a dogwhistle that’s meant to suggest the issue of police bigotry without being open about it. As a rule I don’t like dogwhistle politics.
