Discussion of religion in the context of LGBTQ+ rights is only allowed in the LGBTQ+ Rights and Religion Thread
.
Discussion of religion in any other context is off topic in all of the "LGBTQ+ rights..." threads.
Attempting to bait others into bringing up religion is also not allowed.

Being two faced. Talking out of one side of your mouth, just another phrase for being a hypocrite.
The day the majority of Arkansas is for any sort of liberal cause is the day I will have a heart attack. This state has a shit ton of issues worthy of its own thread.
"Psssh. Even if you could catch a miracle on a picture any person would probably delete it to make space for more porn." - AszurOn that note, the last thing we want is Democratic Senators in swing/light red states committing political suicide by endorsing gay marriage. The likely result is that they get defeated by Republicans running on a anti-gay agenda that will actively screw over the LGBT cause (among other things). In the real world pragmatism has its advantages over courage.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
which is why Mc Caskill coming out for it worries me.
Keep in mind, before his rape comments, Todd Akin was projected to defeat her here in missouri.
And the republicans of the state united behind him anyways after he said it.

We can only hope.
My main worry is Alaska's Mark Begich who also recently endorsed gay marriage.
He's up for reelection in 2014, and the only reason he won election in 2008 was because a conservative third party candidate managed to siphon off enough votes from the Republican Candidate.
Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016A law in Alabama requires teachers to tell students that being gay is a crime and a jailable offense
Excuse me while I go beat the shit out of a punching bag.
How naive. Of course you can; we do it all the time. The question is whether the lies are politically acceptable.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"To clarify on the Alabama/homosexuality/legality situation:
So it's technically on the books, but if they try to enforce it, the executive branch of the federal government gets to smack 'em down.

We make them omit stuff, and there's History Marches On and Science Marches On that can make some of the stuff taught outdated, and sometimes there are simplifications made for the sake of pedagogy, and there's political interpretations of previous events, but you can't make a teacher teach outright lies, that's...
...
It's unthinkable, is what it is. No, it's outright unforgivable. You can't stand to a child as the source of all truth and knowledge, the one charged with correcting their mistakes and judging their understanding, and lie to them.
Am I the only one who's extremely serious about this shit? This reminds me of the time in 2003 where they burned Baghdad's National Library and I was the only kid in school openly crying about it. Do I have Skewed Priorities?

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.![]()
As has been pointed out they aren't technically making the teachers lie. Homosexuality is illegal and a jailable offense in Alabama. They are just having the teachers say that while omitting the fact that the law that makes it an offense has been ruled unconstitutional. So they aren't lying, just omitting stuff, very important stuff.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranAlabama's teachers need to stage a walkout over that. Of course, how many of them believe that it should be illegal?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Given recent electoral high jinks, I don't think it's necessarily safe to say that the politicians making the laws - particularly in rural states - are even representative of the overall opinions of the regional population. I mean, I'm sure it's no overall gay-friendly atmosphere over there, but still.
Look at it this way. If they can't enforce the original 'homosexuality is illegal' law, how much more luck will they have getting teachers to enforce a derivation of it?

I guess he is in a tough position huh? I wish the majority of the state was for marriage equality.
What does this mean?
