For those who wanted to know, here's Like a Dragon Gaiden's Baka Mitai:
The Photo this time is of Kiryu and Old Pocket Circuit Fighter from 6 in the same vein as in Yakuza Kiwami 1 with Young Kiryu and Young Pocket Circuit fighter from 0.

Ok, here's the first look at Yong Yea's take as Kiryu in the dub.
Not quite the baritone that we usually expect and kinda younger than needed, but he plays the part well in most aspects, at least in my opinion.
Then again, he said he once tried a deeper tone but he observed it felt forced.
He also mentioned the performance got more refined in time, so it means that the performance may sound a bit different in the other parts of the game and Gaiden as well.

"Cynicism is not realistic and tough. It's unrealistic and kind of cowardly because it means you don't have to try."I hope he had fun voicing Kiryu, especially given how excited he seemed to land the role. I know some people gave him a hard time over one of his initial readings, but hopefully he managed to make things click.
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."Finally got to get some playtime into The Man Who Erased His Name. I don't know why, but it didn't unlock until after 10pm yesterday, so I only got to it today.
Right now my only remaining concern is how much playtime I'm going to get out of this. Not because it's throwing signals that at chapter 2 I'm halfway thru or anything, but because it is a gaiden game so I'm just expecting a truncated story.
Substories exist, but they're handed out by the obligatory "business you build up" (a kinda pseudo-fixer) of the game. Looks to be about 30 of them, but I haven't gone past the first one yet. Which was the "here's how the cabaret club works" tutorial so its not a good example of how the rest will look.
The cabaret club went full FMV, by the way. Honestly, it just seems weird.
Kiryu, sorry, Joryu, starts of pretty powerful so the game kinda throws you in head first. Just two tutorial fights and off you go. Both styles are pretty fun to use. Agent is a bit quicker and gives you access to gadgets like Scorpions harpoo...I mean, your watch threads. The other is his Dragon style with an ability to charge your attacks. Right now I'm spending money to buy upgrades, but other currency might be needed later.
The mainstay activities are there: darts, pool, arcade, cabaret club, karaoke, etc. I'm in Sotenbori right now, so the golf center is there. Karaoke has five songs fully sung. I aced Baka Mitai the first time through.
There still seems to be done stuff I haven't unlocked yet, but it won't be much longer. Story's ok so far. I'm interested to see what's happening, but its not setting my world on fire or anything.
No offence to Yong Yea, but having listen to his clips i REALLY don't find him a good fit for Kiryu, especially a Kiryu thats already aging considerably. Daigo or even 0 Kiryu would have fit better, but even then, I listened to his English Karaoke and...No...Just, sorry, it sounds awful. Doxing him was pretty bad, but his acting for Kiryu is just not good, IMO
I really feel like Daryl Kurylo, even though he was the OG dub actor in a rather subpar dub, was infinitely better in 7, short of a role it was, and I easily would have preferred him to come back, as he has the proper tone for Kiryu to match Kuroda's.
Watch SymphogearWhen it came to Yakuza 6, I was wondering if Tehsnakerer could provide some well-argued reasons to look at the issues I still have with the game in a more positive or at least well-intentioned light. After finishing the video, I find myself impressed by how much good he was honestly able to get out of certain things in the game but unconvinced to challenge my own initial opinion all the same. It's not a big deal really, just a curiosity I had.
But man, this game made me feel the opposite of 3 so hard it's nuts. In 3 I was not interested in the orphanage stuff and wanted to get to the yakuza plot, but in 6 I was so underwhelmed and uninterested in the crime story that I wished the game stayed away from it as long as possible and I didn't want Kiryu to leave Onomichi. Mind, I still don't really care about the Hirose family, but everything else about Onomichi is great for all the reasons Tehsnakerer laid out in his video. Despite his feelings on it I even preferred Clan Creator's story over the main plot.
The themes of 6 do attempt to tackle much heavier subject matter this time around but not very gracefully. It's that whole issue where the character focused melodrama is when the series is at it's best and stepping outside of that causes the story to fumble. In 5 it was over the limp criticism of the idol industry, but that story overall still worked because the real focus was on the concept of having a dream and exploring that in several lenses. In 6 the heavy themes ARE the real plot, so the ball dropping is impossible to get away from.
And boy does the ball not drop any harder than on the Secret of Onomichi. Past yakuza plot twits had their own silliness to them (even spin-offs like Ishin! aren't exempt from that), but they remained focused on the characters entirely. This kept the plots from losing themselves and the story to still reach satisfying conclusions. The nature of the secret vastly widens the scope past what 6 is going for into something far beyond itself an what it's prepared to tackle, so what should be an international crisis that should encompass the rest of the plot is just blackmail material used by villains that no longer matter as of that chapter. It's the worst big plot twist ever in these games because it's not a bigger deal than it should be.
6 has problems caused by being the first Dragon engine game, and problems from general writing directions. It's a mixed back I lean more negative on and time can't change why for me, but I still respect whatever good things other people are able to get out of it.
I love Kiwami 2 if only because I've played it first without playing the original (I'll find a way) and that probably spoiled me. That and it looked fantastic and played great. Like I said tho if they did a samurai spinoff first before going into Y6, it might have helped a good deal.
Are explosions science?Almost a week ago, the English dub of the story trailer came out. Video below:
Did they get Debi Derryberry to reprise as Haruka Sawamura or a new voice actress to voice Haruka in English?

It is me, or Yong Yea has a slightly better voice in the trailer compared to early footage? Not exactly a deep voice, but fits the grizzled veteran he's going for.
