I finished Yakuza Kiwami, and my main thought is that I'm sad Nishiki won't get a redemption arc.

Nishiki in general was only written well in 0.

Nishiki did get some extra scenes added in Kiwami, detailing in better light how he fellt to the dark side, culminating in him using a guy's blood as hair gel.

Nishiki is my favorite villain in the series but part of that is definitely seeing the full scope of his downfall thanks to Yakuza 0.

Do they ever explain what was up with Kiryu finding Haruka surrounded by corpses with a gun almost as big as her?

The Dragon's Path comic shows her entering the bar, seeing all the corpses, taking the gun from one of them and hiding behind the bar. I mean if that's canon.

I booted up Yakuza 5 while waiting for Bloodborne to install.

Why the heck is it going back to Yakuza 3's level up system when Yakuza 4's was perfect?

I think I'm done with Yakuza Kiwami. I don't want to go back just to try and defeat Jo Amon, I beat Majima, that's good enough for me.

I managed to beat him on all of my Yakuza playthroughs thus far, although Hostess Bullshit made that a tedious affair. I'm also making far more headway with Tanimura now, too. Got the one perk that lets him follow up Finishing Blows with heat moves now too.

So far, I've beaten Amon in both Kiwamis, 5, and 6. For 3 I still need to get through the hostess substories, and for 4 I'm ready to go but want to prepare a bit more (apparently more armor for Tanimura is recommended). Kiwami 2 was certainly the easiest one because I completely cheesed all those fights x3 haha unbreakable photon blade go syoom zhoom + misc. equipment from the final bouncer missions

On the other hand, might just be because it's still fresh in my mind from having recently played it but 5 was the most frustrating one

General idea is put the Sacred Tree gear on Tanimura for the rest of the game.

I've beaten Amon and his relatives in Yakuzas 0, Kiwami 1 and 2 and 3, as well as Lost Paradise where its either Jo Amon himself or a distant relative who just looks a lot like Jo Amon specifically. I have a feeling Amon'll be easiest to reach in 4 since Hostess Bullshit is largely reduced and none of that accursed golfing is necessary.

Got Yakuza 6 on sale time to burn through 5.

I liked the cast of 4 but I'm worried about burning out on five characters in five different cities.

Kiryu looks like he's about to die when he starts running.

Oh god now I'm playing Not At All Crazy Taxi.

Yeah, they did good on making Kiryu look real old by Yakuza 5.

Then suddenly by 6 he looks early 20s

Yakuza 5's crane game has a boxed figure of the dragon from Panzer Dragoon and it won't let me play for it. This bites.

I cannot believe these two yakuza dudes just spilled the beans about a brewing turf war to a random ass taxi driver. Absolute lunacy.

So I beat Judgment's bonus boss yesterday and I think this might be my favorite Amon fight so far (out of the ones I've played)! The phase switching was a really interesting and fun idea, and the phone stealing, while kinda annoying, makes sense in a meta way. (Though I didn't realize/forgot about how you're meant to attack in the opposite phase when he puts up his shield and mostly just kept slowly Cherry Tapping my way through the last 2 health bars) Also the fact that frame drops are just a part of the fight is also amusing to me, guess that's just another cheap Amon trick xD
Plus, the battle theme is awesome and the pre- and post-fight dialogue is pretty funny x3

Got past the infamous rubber bullets twist in Y4. And you know, even if I hadn't watched Tehsnakerer's vid beforehand I can actually see how the rubber bullets thing makes sense on my own and doesn't really constitute Ass Pull. Do most players just have little in the way of common sense or thought? Or observation skills? Once I pushed that video out of my head I still managed to piece things together. Like how nobody in the conspiracy were any good at long term planning, not realizing that Yasuko would be hell bent on saving her brother the way she did, how the details in Sugiuchi's report didn't line up with what we saw and never once held up to Munakata's scrutiny. Or the flying blood in that scene looking like noodle broth (apart from one guy showing proper dark Blood from the Mouth when Saejima punches him) or how the bullet holes on everyone's jackets looking clean next to the wounds Saejima sustained from real shots.

Also don't see how it'd make Saejima "look good" when he still went into that shop with full intent to kill.

EDIT: I do like how when Kiryu flashes back to the events of Y1, the remaster uses footage from Kiwami 1. Dunno if the PS 3 original used the original PS 2 game or not but hey.

EDIT 2: Not seeing how the hell Yasuko's meant to be some sort of femme fatale when what we see of her ingame is her being shy, demure, unsure of herself and slowing the dialogue to the pace of a cutscene in Budokai Tenkaichi. Either her cover's really really good, or she killed those guys in a stroke of luck that racked up.

Double post but I went back to Yakuza 0, rewatching its retelling of the Ueno Seiwa hit from Y4. seems I called it wrong, Majima still only loses his eye once to the Shibata torturemaster. Shimano just has him tortured in the hole for a year for being a rebellious fuckup. So it actually lines up perfectly with Yakuza 4's events and now I've nearly beaten Y4, I admit rewatching Y0 gave me a giddy rush at seeing Saejima and Shibata and even old man Ueno again. Shame we didn't see a rerun of the hit itself but hey.

EDIT: And I beat Y4's version of Amon, and he...was actually kinda easy. Didn't Game Over once. Well, they were, rather. Akiyama's I was able to cheese with spamming the Oh Shit Its Robert From King Of Fighters kick and the wall rush. Saejima's came perilously close to losing but I just walked around at critical health til I got enough heat to weather Jiro's hammer, ram him into a wall and ring his bell good. Tanimura had the Sacred Tree gear on and was thus piss easy and Jo was about what I expected. Was funny to see the helath bar fakeout from Kiwami 1 return tho and the satellie laser surprised me, but I gave Kiryu the Kokurenkai defense buff gear so he was basically made of iron. And the best bit is I finished off Jo with the Essence of Smoking. Why is that not in other games?

Yakuza 5 is kinda boring me but that Saejima's HEAT moves let him swing his enemies around like bats is starting to make it up for me.

God I hope Y6 and Judgment are shorter than Y5. I know I'm complaining about a game having more stuff to do but I prefer the leaner Kiryu-focused narratives compared to the gaggle of heroes later Yakuza has, even if Shun Akiyama is legit the best.

I still have a soft spot for Y5 since it was the very first one I played. Two years ago. Now I got a chance to play it in 60fps, hell yeah.

Although they took the readable manga out of the remaster :(

EDIT: Watase seems okay so far. Kinda like an attempted rerun of Ryuji Goda. Honestly I think the worst the series has given me so far is Yasuko since holy fuck she's way too shy and stammery to be the master assassin Yakuza 4 purports her to be and half the time the dialogue pace gets as bad as a cutscene from Budokai Tenkaichi.

EDIT: KIRYU CAN DEFLECT ROCKETS BY JIREN-ING THEM
