Does anyone know which book talks about Carrot's sword?

Guards, Guards! talks the most about it, as far as I remember.

[up]In addition, it gets a couple of important mentions in Men at Arms.

Men At Arms is the one with "a true king would be the guy who could put a sword in a stone".

[up]Actually, I think Guards! Guards! has that conversation, and then Men At Arms follows it up as a Brick Joke.

What's precedent ever done for us?

No, it's Men at Arms (I checked). Guards! Guards! has the one about a king's sword in the old days not being magical or shiny, just really sharp.

Yes, that's the quote I'm talking about. I'm looking all over for it (to share with the guys working on Domhain Sceal) but can't find it on the Quote File and don't own the book it's from.

Not quite. It's a little. . . Weird. And still in development, mind. Really, really still in development.

I like weird. And still in development means there might be room for me to give input after the Archive Binge is finished.

Some... months ago, I posted in this thread about how I wanted to get into the Discworld Universe.

I am now into it.

And it is my favorite comedy book, ever... no wait, I still like Dave Barry most. Sorry. But these are still so incredibly awesome!

I just finished The Truth, Going Postal, Making Money, and Jingo, all of which were great, although I thought Making Money was a bit weak. The vampire from The Truth is possibly my favorite character, though.

Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.

Out of those, only Going Postal and Making Money reach Pratchett's usual joke-per-page ratio. The rest are more serious.

If you want more Pratchett with as many as or more jokes than the Moist von Lipwig books, take a look at the Rincewind saga, especially The Last Continent.

The Rincewind books do have a running story, though, so even though the books do work to some extend as stand-alone works, it's much better to read them in the correct order. The downside is that you have to start with the very first Discworld books, which aren't as good as the level that Pratchett usually reaches.

You can skip Unseen Academicals though; it's technically in the Rincewind series but it doesn't add much to his character arc.

So apparently The Long Earth came out. It's not Discworld but I might pick it up.

Rincewind only gets a very minor role. He's one of the players for team Unseen. It's ostensibly a Wizard book, but the spotlight is given to Nutt, Glenda, Trevor and Juliet.

Agreed.

The Wizard series, as near as I can tell, goes as follows:

How about Sourcery? It's a Rincewind book for the most part, but the (old) University wizards play a significant role there.

But I guess many readers doesn't take it into account, since Mustrum Ridcully (along with most of his supporting characters) didn't come out of the woodwork until Moving Pictures.

Exactly, before Moving Pictures the wizards aren't individually really big players. Oh they get lines, and sometimes they even get names, but that's it.

You need to have read Guards! Guards! and The Fifth Elephant at the very least to get a good grasp of Night Watch.

I also strongly recommend that you include Men at Arms when you're going through the Watch books. Jingo isn't as important, though it's a fantastic book on its own right.
