Men At Arms is the one with "a true king would be the guy who could put a sword in a stone".

Actually, I think Guards! Guards! has that conversation, and then Men At Arms follows it up as a Brick Joke.
No, it's Men at Arms (I checked). Guards! Guards! has the one about a king's sword in the old days not being magical or shiny, just really sharp.

Join us in our quest to play all RPG video games! Moving on to disc 2 of Grandia!Yes, that's the quote I'm talking about. I'm looking all over for it (to share with the guys working on Domhain Sceal) but can't find it on the Quote File and don't own the book it's from.
Mura: -flips the bird to veterinary science with one hand and Euclidean geometry with the other-Tvtropes is building a dwarves 'n elves campaign setting? Welp, time for an Archive Binge.
I like weird. And still in development means there might be room for me to give input after the Archive Binge is finished.
Some... months ago, I posted in this thread about how I wanted to get into the Discworld Universe.
I am now into it.
And it is my favorite comedy book, ever... no wait, I still like Dave Barry most. Sorry. But these are still so incredibly awesome!
I just finished The Truth, Going Postal, Making Money, and Jingo, all of which were great, although I thought Making Money was a bit weak. The vampire from The Truth is possibly my favorite character, though.
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.Out of those, only Going Postal
and Making Money
reach Pratchett's usual joke-per-page ratio. The rest are more serious.
If you want more Pratchett with as many as or more jokes than the Moist von Lipwig books, take a look at the Rincewind saga, especially The Last Continent
.
The Rincewind books do have a running story, though, so even though the books do work to some extend as stand-alone works, it's much better to read them in the correct order. The downside is that you have to start with the very first Discworld books, which aren't as good as the level that Pratchett usually reaches.

Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur. You can skip Unseen Academicals though; it's technically in the Rincewind series but it doesn't add much to his character arc.
So apparently The Long Earth came out. It's not Discworld but I might pick it up.
One Piece blog Beyond the LampshadeThe Wizard series, as near as I can tell, goes as follows:
- Moving Pictures
- Reaper Man (crossover with Death)
- Lords And Ladies (crossover with Witches)
- Soul Music (crossover with Death/Susan)
- Hog Father (crossover with Death/Susan)
- The Last Continent (crossover with Rincewind)
- The Science Of Discworld 1-3 (crossover with Rincewind)
- Unseen Academicals

How about Sourcery? It's a Rincewind book for the most part, but the (old) University wizards play a significant role there.
But I guess many readers doesn't take it into account, since Mustrum Ridcully (along with most of his supporting characters) didn't come out of the woodwork until Moving Pictures.

Exactly, before Moving Pictures the wizards aren't individually really big players. Oh they get lines, and sometimes they even get names, but that's it.

I desperately want to read night watch, but first I want to read the other books in the watch series.
Ah well. Don't spoil it!
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.You need to have read Guards! Guards! and The Fifth Elephant at the very least to get a good grasp of Night Watch.
I also strongly recommend that you include Men at Arms when you're going through the Watch books. Jingo isn't as important, though it's a fantastic book on its own right.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.Read Guards, Feet of clay and Jingo. Men at arms was checked out of the library, and fifth elephant is next.
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.Went back to the library, and this time Fifth Elephant wasn't there, but Men At Arms and Reaper Man was.
Reaper man is the greatest thing. So far.
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.

Does anyone know which book talks about Carrot's sword?
