Just finished my first master grade, the EW version of the Gundam Deathscythe.

It was much harder than HG, even with the bigger size. Still, I think it came out all right. I lost a piece, but it's a rather small and kinda unimportant one. No, the biggest problem I had was that the dangly bits on the waist section will pop off with just a little pressure. And the rocket nozzles on the backpack will sometimes spontaneously fall off. But overall, I enjoy it, mostly because of the cool scythe and shield it has.

Finished my MG Blitz Gundam. I used 3R’s die-cast metal frame as a base; it’s really hefty and poses great. Some of frame’s mould inhibits the final product. I needed to trim the top of the legs off which prevents a thigh swivel. The back of the skirt didn’t fit so I didn’t bother with it. It looks like their frame for the Duel has the same problem.

Otherwise, I’m very content with these 3rd party accessories. It removes the part I dislike the most while creating a sturdy figurine.

What should I work on next, the Duel or the Cross Dimensions SD Zaku II?

@Lark: Yeah, the P-Bandai stuff has been getting steadily worse over the years. Having the EW designs being standard release and their glory of losers versions be P-Bandai kind of makes sense, but the EW Mid-Season Upgrade designs being P-Bandai is really dumb. Though the Deathscythe Hell MG was a regular release.

[up]What's the sticker situation on the sd Gundam zaku?

After creating an MG, an RG, and several HGs, I think that the models I'd have the most fun building are HG 1/100. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any.

Yeah, sadly there aren't that many non-MG 1/100 floating around.

On that note, I got an MG Freedom Gundam 2.0. Strangely, the box is noticeably bigger than the one for my MG Deathscythe.

Oh heck yeah. I absolutely love the Freedom 2.0. It's such a beautiful build.

Both that and Justice are just too good. Still waiting for a 2.0 version of the Strike Freedom and Infinite Justice with the same engineering.

I dont seem to have any trouble with the finer detail models. I have the RG Crossbone X-1, and it went together super easy for me. Well, the head was a nightmare, but it went together correctly. The only real mistakes I made were that I trimmed one piece a little too closely and I stripped one of the foot wingies when I was putting it on.

HG and MG models are a walk in the park. If that MGEX Unicorn ever pops back up, I may just spring for it. LEDs might prove an interesting challenge.

The Justice is next on my list when I finally get to building my other kits. The Freedom 2.0, Justice, and the Providence are pretty much the holy trinity of the SEED line.

Honestly, I'm not super versed in the shows. I've seen all of G (from its run on Cartoon Network), and I've been moving through classic and Turn A recently. Aside from a scant few episodes, I've barely seen anything else.

I buy models based purely on the notion of "oh, that looks cool," or "ooh, that looks fun to build."

I still need to build my MG Justice. I also have 3R's metal frame for it. Now I'm tempted to build as opposed to my SD kits.

The Full Mechanics and RE:1/100 are what you're looking for, but most of them are pretty old or hard to find. There's the new Calamity Full Mechanics that might revive this range of models (and I, for one, cannot wait to build it once it finally arrives here).

Just purchased and built my first Gunpla kit since the days Gundam Wing aired on Toonami (they were a Wing Gundam and Deathscythe and remember being quite annoyed that the WG didn't come with a beam sword).

It was a HG Strike Gundam from Gundam Seed (never seen it but it looked cool and to my delight came with TWO beam swords) and I definitely had a lot of fun building it even though I my clumsy hands struggled with the more delicate parts tongue.

Definitely happy with it as a first go though the finish wasn't perfect due to the way I twisted the plastic off. Something fixed with clippers? I also messed up on one of the decals on the wings though luckily it was underside so not too noticeable.

Definitely get clippers if you plan to do more. The pieces will come out much cleaner. I also use an x-acto knife to trim the flash afterward.

You want clippers to separate the pieces from the runners, and you don't really want to twist them off: too much risk of bending and even breaking the pieces. And if you really want to clean the edges and remove all traces of the little nubs, you can grab an x-acto knife like [up] said for that.

I'm assuming they want a pair to protect against the x-acto knife? Shouldn't really need any if you're careful with them. X-acto knives are sharp, but if you're holding the knife and the piece properly there should be no chance for the knife to go anywhere near your fingertips.

Cheers for the advice! I shall definitely invest in a pair for my next model smile

I don't have a huge amount of space for models in my current place but definitely wouldn't mind having a few to liven my room up. It was also just a rather fun way to spend an hour.

Built the HGUC Rick Dias Revive (Mass Production). I have the original as well. Huge improvement but not nearly enough done with it. Changes it from a 3/10 to a 5/10. Much nicer proportions and articulation, but too much of the old kit is still in it. Really wish it had more hands and that the weapons got remade, those beam pistols's protrusions make them hard to pose when held in hand.

On my end, finally finished building my Astray Red Frame (which, at this point, is my third Astray kit), and I absolutely love that massive fuck-off sword.

The Freedom Gundam taught me something today. Sometimes, you have no difficulty attaching pieces together into a finished model kit, only to find that you can't attach the model kit to a base without several pieces falling off. Then you lose the piece that allows you to connect the torso to the waist.

In other words, that was $50+ down the drain.

Yeah, I remember the HGCE Freedom just not agreeing with its own shield or an action base at all. Its a pain to get it to float right. This is why I'm not keen on starting out with CE suits, they're overengineered nightmares.
