Well, Cygan was wondering why there wasn't one, so I made it. I guess we can talk about queer stuff. :3

Oh, and if you're wondering, non-queer folks are welcome too.

That's an unnecessary amount of effort. I get security measures, but that's just boiling over.

This is a signature.I've been doing the opposite; looking at names that don't sound too much like my own name (or my relatives'; I had to reject Daria because it would make my name too much like mum's). Mainly because my given name alliterates, and I've always hated that.
So far my criteria's been:
- Do I like the sound of it?
- Does it have a good diminutive (if it's long enough to need one)?
- Would it sound "natural" when I introduce myself (I've been doing this by looking up how popular the name was in my birth year - which is hard, since there isn't much data available online before the 90's in the UK - and checking wikipedia for lists of notable people with the name).
GUYS
I HAVE GOOD NEWS
To non-British people:
This petition is passed to an investigative committee in the House of Commons (the members of this committee are representative of the House's proportions) who will look into this matter further and push the Minister for Women & Equality and the Dept for Culture, Media & Sport (I have no idea why it's in this Department, and not the Dept for Home Affairs) to pass legislation or perform the equivalent of an executive order (called statutory instruments here) granting such.
Well, gay marriage also fell under DCMS. I presume DCMS has the ability to pass legislation on these topics, while Home Affairs has the ability to enforce them.
Also, it's important to note that the Minister for Women & Equality didn't vote for gay marriage in the House in 2014.

@DBL: My friend Berta chose her name because of someone she admired (Rigoberta Menchú). I don't know if you'd want to do that, but if you have trouble coming up with a name, you could choose to honour someone by taking their name. Be it a friend, an activist, poetess, etc.
Also, that's what many parents do. Mine did that... which is why I have three given names. >.>
In a little bit of serendipity last night my family were discussing what my brother and I would adopt as feminine names. Both our names are unisex and while I would be happy just changing the long form, my brother wouldn't. The only female name our parents picked (just in case the ultrasounds were wrong) was Aisha, which might be a little awkward and culturally appropriative since we're white (I don't think it was in honour of anyone).
My other idea would then be Matilda so I can use the handle Ma~ and perhaps break people's code.
My brother has decided on Alice should he need it. Just because he likes it and nothing to do with Alice In Wonderland. It's also our granny's middle name for a little familiar precedent.
Also In Hopeless Guy -> In Hopeful Gal?

You must agree, my plan is sheer elegance in its simplicity! My TumblrI recall that my mother had something like a page and a half of girl name candidates and two boy name candidates. And then she had two boys. (My younger brother didn't get the other name on her list, the name came to her when she saw the ultrasound)
Fresh-eyed movie blogYou'll know when you find the name, dbl. Quite sure of it!
Luckily (I, uh, guess) my name is Alex, so it really wouldn't be hard for me to find the female counterpart to my name... Not much of that would change really.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeSide note: your bookshelf is beautiful. Mine's a mess.
Also, I see you've got Artemis Fowl, His Dark Materials, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and Terry Pratchett, and that makes me so jealous, DBL. I'm poor so I only own Jojo's; everything else I read on the public library.

DBL: I was gonna suggest Sigismund
but he's male.
So, then I started to think of female 40k characters but all I could think of was Amberley Vail from the Ciaphas Cain books.
The bottom shelf will probably make you rethink that assertion.
