As per this post: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=1303595617066087200&page=2#43

Basically, the page needs to be better organized, and making subtropes for all of (or most of) what it covers would help. We already have The Cover Changes the Gender and The Vonda Shepard Treatment (the latter of which is in the process of a rename, which needs more attention), so we already have a couple. Surely we can think of some more to manage this page better.

Not every cover that changes the meaning fits into any of those categories. For example coers done by Laibach show creepy, totalitarian undertones that can be found in popular songs by turning them into Music to Invade Poland to while Summoning, who don't really do covers but use Tolkien's lyrics in some songs, changes mood of said lyrics by uing Black Metal vocals, "Psycho" Strings and other sinister elements

I honestly have no idea what you said. All I'm suggesting is making some more subtropes of The Cover Changes the Meaning (and moving examples of those subtropes to their respective pages) to keep the page more manageable and better organized. And the examples that can't be put into a dungeons would be left on the page.

I'm saying that most of the covers that change the meaning are kind of band-specific style and there would be too many small categories. We'd end up with too many pages with too little content IMHO

I'm not saying "make a subtrope for every single one", I'm talking about for the more general ones. As for ones that put a song just in the covering band's style, that too can be a trope. I can't think of a short enough name ("The Cover Is In The Covering Artists Style" doesn't really roll off the tongue), but it could be its own trope if there are really as much examples of that as you say.

I agree with looking through the examples and finding groups big enough to split into subtropes. It's a great way to break up large unwieldy tropes into manageable bits.

I never expected the page to get as huge and unweildly as it did. Just from what I remember seeing most in the edits on the watchlist, I'd support some subtropes like "The Cover Makes It Depressing", "The Cover Makes It Insane", and "The Cover Makes It Gay," as those seem to be the more common ones.

Those are good. Any other lumps anyone's observed?

Also, I think The Cover Makes It Depressing may have some overlap with The Vonda Shepard Treatment. I am not sure exactly how much, though, since that trope's description and examples seem to be slightly (if only by a bit) at odds with each other.

[up]The Vonda Shepard Treatment is undergoing its own TRS thread. That one should probably be "wait and see" for now.

[up]I know, I started that thread. It's just getting a rename. It's also what spun off this thread.

I'm still for a large scale split, I just haven't had much time to devote to this lately. Perhaps a special efforts thread might be a good idea since we're going to be spawning a lot of subtropes.

Alrighty then. I'd just like for a little more discussion, or maybe a crowner so we can officially decide how to deal with this. I'm all for your suggestion, though.

Let's do a crowner to decide to split and from there we can work to split off subtropes and run them through YKTTW.

Cool.

...just, one thing I never figured out in all the time I've been here, how DO you make a crowner anyway, for future reference?

Should we edit that option in the crowner to add making a Special Efforts thread to the option?

In the meantime, does anyone else have any ideas for potential new pages to spin off from this one?
