  • 1, best episode ever. Funny, atmospheric (?) and subtle, all at once. Also a "one off" episode, somehow independent from the rest of the season.

The Chekov's Guns of the ep, as I count them. That is, being both set up and paid off.

Meanwhile, stripes and the gun in the fridge remains planted for future episodes.

Was this one of the spec scripts at Writer's Block chosen to be made into an episode?

Yes, this was a spec submission. Connor Sites-Bowen had already written Walk and Talk in Season 1, and of course he played Knife Guy, but he had no idea what the story of Season 2 would be when he submitted the initial draft of Chekhov's Gun. So there's a lesson to be learned here about what spec scripts are going to work for Echo Chamber. They're going to stand well on their own, while still leaving room for the season's continuity to get worked in.

The script went through three rewrites by me and Dana before it became what it is, though. So it wasn't perfect from the get-go. No script is.

I'd also like to weigh in and say re: our page that yes, it will need reworking, especially as we add more episodes. How about this:

-At the top, have the most recent episode.

-Embed the premiere and finale of Season 1, link to the rest of Season 1.

-Combine the "plot description" part, where the episodes are summarized, with the part where the tropes are listed by episodes. These sections are redundant. This should make the layout more intuitive.

-Embed each Season 2 episode next to its description. This way, only the most recent episode will be double posted.

Thoughts?

I was kind of expecting/hoping that the gunfire killed/seriously injured knife guy, but the crew would be too busy arguing over how awful Zach was and Tom getting shot to freak out over the dude beyond a couple words of acknowledgement.

Huh.

How did Zack even get a gun? I mean, someone like Zack probably wouldn't be able to have a license for one.

I think in PA you don't need a license unless you are concealing it

on the other hand, I think those kinds of guns are illegal everywhere in the States.

There actually used to be a line about that, which got filmed and was only cut due to pacing:

"Zack, put the gun down! You don't even have a permit for it! You could get, like, a day in County."

I had counted Knife guy himself as a Chekhov's Gun.

The return of Knife Guy would be the payoff of a Chekhov's Gun from Terrible Interviewees Montage.

He's not a Chekhov's Gun, he's a Chekhov's Gunman, because he's a character, not an inanimate object.
