What sort of personality do you want your smart guy to have, arrogant, friendly, defensive? Just look at Stargate, you have Sam, Daniel, Mc Kay and Zelenka fitting the trope, but no-one can say they have anything like the same personalities.
He is an Insufferable Genius, Genius Bruiser and Blood Knight.

Parrots are idiots. They just repeat everything they hear.
Owls tend to be associated with wisdom. But in Adventure Time and The Secret Of NIMH, they're just associated with animals getting eaten.
Elephants are pretty smart.
"Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person that doesn't get it."I've already got an owl, and the Elephant's already The Brute with the Psycho Rangers. Any other ideas?
read Sunrise Stardust and The Burned World by Jason Epsilon 725!Whatever you do, don't make him an owl. They're really dumb. Among birds, crows or ravens are a much better choice.
How about a dolphin?

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI would personally favor an ape of some sort. However, with the other tropes you've described him (?) with, a dolphin might be more appropriate - despite the way we view then, dolphins can be nasty.
Also, pigs tend to be much smarter than is commonly thought.
IIRC, pigs are actually some of the smartest domestic animals. If you play its heritage to boars, you might satisfy both Genius Bruiser and Blood Knight, although not sure about the latter. I didn't do my research.
Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.
Already done to death and back with Animal Farm.
For the person who suggested the white lab rat...
"Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person that doesn't get it."The cat sounds good for the Genius Bruiser and Blood Knight aspect.
Badass Bookworm, it might, but Genius Bruiser? Not really.

In a show where everyone is a Funny Animal, what kinds of animal would The Smart Guy be?
