Hmmm Cat comes to mind almost immediately though you could conceivable do the same trick with any animal who that uses tools. Chimpanzees, Otters, Crows etc.

Theres sex and death and human grime in monochrome for one thin dime and at least the trains all run on time but they dont go anywhere.

Perhaps some kind of reptile? Or maybe a bird - parrots are pretty smart.

Or an octopus.

What sort of personality do you want your smart guy to have, arrogant, friendly, defensive? Just look at Stargate, you have Sam, Daniel, Mc Kay and Zelenka fitting the trope, but no-one can say they have anything like the same personalities.

[up][up]Parrots are idiots. They just repeat everything they hear.

Owls tend to be associated with wisdom. But in Adventure Time and The Secret Of NIMH, they're just associated with animals getting eaten.

Elephants are pretty smart.

I've already got an owl, and the Elephant's already The Brute with the Psycho Rangers. Any other ideas?

Whatever you do, don't make him an owl. They're really dumb. Among birds, crows or ravens are a much better choice.

How about a dolphin?

Cats are clever. Foxes are clever. Many breeds of dogs are clever.

Dolphins are clever too.

Banned entirely for telling FE that he was being rude and not contributing to the discussion. I shall watch down from the goon heavens.

A bit of home-team advertising, have you heard of Keas before?

I would personally favor an ape of some sort. However, with the other tropes you've described him (?) with, a dolphin might be more appropriate - despite the way we view then, dolphins can be nasty.

Also, pigs tend to be much smarter than is commonly thought.

Parrots aren't dumb. Alex the African Grey parrot had about the intelligence of a 5yearold; youtube him.

IIRC, pigs are actually some of the smartest domestic animals. If you play its heritage to boars, you might satisfy both Genius Bruiser and Blood Knight, although not sure about the latter. I didn't do my research.

He is an Insufferable Genius, Genius Bruiser and Blood Knight.

Sounds exactly like my cat. She's arrogant, loves to torture and kill mice for fun, and regaularly wins fights with neighborhood cats.

If I'm asking for advice on a story idea, don't tell me it can't be done.

The cat sounds good for the Genius Bruiser and Blood Knight aspect.

You can use the Orca and put it in a wetsuit...although, it may not be as funny as it seems.
