Personally, I haven't seen the film, but considering the lackluster reception of the film, I'm not surprised that it bombed. The film already had a lot of negative points against it. First off, it looked too generic. There was nothing terribly interesting or original in the previews. Second, a lot of people are sick of the Uncanny Valley CGI that these films employ. Third, it's based on a book on which the source material probably isn't represented as well as it could be. I think Disney bit off more than they could chew by picking up Robert Z's studio from the brink of death, thinking it would be another money making baby when it really flopped on their face. At least the folding of the studio this means we don't have to endure a bastardized version of Yellow Submarine.
A Winner is You!Well I saw the movie, and I personally thougt it was somewhat decent. Not the best movie ever, hell, not even good, just a barely decent film to kill time and completly forgettable.
Of course, a lot of people probably expected a lot more... So yeah. Maybe thats it?
I would have like it more if The mom actually die at the end, thougt. yeah, its quite cruel but w/e. At least I thougt than the were actually going to pull it off, but no. lol.

"That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death itself may die."
I think I will always have a hard time understanding this...
I dont know what was so bad about it. But, then again, I dont know what sos bad about half the examples in Uncanney Valley or however do you spell it.
"That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death itself may die."The only thing that annoys me about this movie is that its based off of a short story from the Bloom County creator. My dad is very upset with Zemeckis and Mars Needs Moms because that he ruined his favorite short story. This would have worked out a lot better if it was a hand-drawn animated feature for adults and you call it "Mars Needs Milfs". That will get the box office numbers to go over the roof.
I liked this movie alot. I suppose some of the hatedom comes from the audacious idea that children might actually benefit from having both parents in their lives in a loving family. Wow, what a terrible thing. I get the notion that this movie might be taken as anti-feminist, or whatever, but I really do believe damage (minimum though it can be) is done when both parents are not involved with a child's life. Kudos for a Disney movie actually having both parents in the kid's life for a change.
@"Mars Needs Milfs": I'm sure there's a porno spoof called that out there somewhere. The real question is, has Brad Jones seen it?

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.

I am not understanding all of the hate for this movie. The rating is only a 4.1 on IM Db (it should be at least a 5.5) and Cartoon Brew treats it like its the antichrist (along with anything Robert Zemeckis, which makes me wonder if Jerry Beck has even liked a project with Zemeckis's name on it). There are much worse films that this one (such as Alpha and Omega, Everyone's Hero and both Space Chimps movies).
Yes, it's not a great movie but it is entertaining enough and the martians are impressive looking (yes, there are characters besides the humans). Also, the movie is much better than the trailers. People only seem to hate it based on three things: 1. the trailers selling it as a comedy rather than an adventure film, 2. the motion capture process (not every film is going to suck because it has motion capture) and 3. the negative press (include Jerry Beck never giving Robert Zemeckis a fair trial) over it losing so much money at the box office.
If you want a bad animated sci-fi film, rent Delgo or Space Chimps and/or Space Chimps 2.
