[up]I had just as much fun, if not more, in 3's COTS as in 2's Weapon Master. The thing I miss from 2's weapon master is actually all the gimmick battles.

I'm a lore fiend, and I get more enjoyment from Soul Calibur's than any other fighting game franchise. If you were to see a correlation/causation where there isn't one, that'd mean CAS makes single player and lore better.

Yeah. I maintain this is such a fundamentally bizarre claim to be taking given the game that gave us Create-A-Soul gave us easily the most in-depth single player campaign in the series, one that was also intrinsically tied into the CAS (indeed, without CAS, there's no way they would have bothered with modelling all the characters in Chronicles of the Sword). CAS has been shown to enhance single-player, not hurt it.

And like. At risk for shifting the discussion to a person, it's odd that you're here on TVT seemingly for the sole purpose of sharing an objectively wrong opinion.

CAS really is a pretty major selling point for the franchise. Even if you don't care for it personally, it essentially pays for itself because a lot of people are gonna buy a SC game just because they saw friends futzing around with CAS on social media.

I do remember, inspired by SC 3's CAS having "Canon" users of the different CAS weapons that where often Mythology Gag or Promoted to Playable, that it would be neat to bring back some Guest Fighter movesets but give them to canon characters so you don't have to pay royalties. Like Darth Vader could be Moveset Clone'd by The Masked Emperor and Link could be one of the elven warriors that canonically exist in the series but are never really seen.

It would be fun for a "Party Game" style SC that's not super worried about balance and can just throw in as many movesets as conceivable.

You are not alone.

I have wondered if the Chronicles of the Sword characters have counterparts in the main Soul Universe. Is that what the bonus playable characters version of them are?

I don't think so. The bonus characters were a mix of canon Soul universe characters and CotS characters, with precisely one character for each of the 17 CaS styles (17! God Soul Calibur III was so good 😭)

And the version exclusivity rages on.

…Eh, can't be too mad, this is the version where I first got into the Soul Calibur series.

I remember when Soul Calibur 2 came out, it was a big deal, and the fact that each of the three console versions had a unique character really gave the whole experience a little extra oomph. I don't think anything quite like that had been done at that point in time.

[up][up] Actually, there WAS an HD release of Soul Calibur 2 on Xbox and Play Station. *Googles* Wait, that was all the way back on 360 and PS 3? Clearly, time is accelerating as it goes along.

[up] Honestly, as glad I was to see the game, I was kinda hoping we'd finally get that HD remake, this time with all the guest characters at once.

Might still happen someday, despite Turok being on the N64 Classic lineup they had no problem throwing the HD remaster on the Eshop too. (Which I certainly bought.)

Another funny Soul Calibur III TAS madness with a surprise Tekken Crossover?!

I'm even more curious on how to perform the off-axis glitch and if it's actually present on the previous games [lol]. Additionally, I miss the unique CAS fighting styles even if they're incomplete and buggy due to developer crunch times.

Another post, but this is a really interesting video that shows the work behind the Soul Calibur 3 intro. Most of the animations were based on motion capture

I assume you mean the custom character movesets of III. VI has a high level of outfit customization.

I've been playing a lot of Soul Edge and the first Soulcalibur recently as I wanted to really get into the series (a few years late admittedly) and expand on the work pages, as the only SC game I ever played was SCII on the Game cube.

While I never grew up with these older 3D fighters, I can see a lot of the framework and cool things that make the original Soul Edge tick and appreciate a lot of things about it that I miss from older fighting games.
