Was replaying Soul Calibur 2 on my Wii. I never actually beat Weapon Master all the way, and was playing through a maze level as Cassandra. Ended up unlocking the Egyptian dungeon levels.
I was frankly amazed, because I had no idea those levels were actually unlockable. Somehow, I missed that in the 20 years I've had this game. It's nice getting surprised like that in something you've had for so long.
Edit; and hey, speak of the devil, and the Devil will suddenly upload a Flophouse Plays of the very game you were talking about;

The short version of Harada's tweet is:
Bandai Namco's corporate culture and structure isn't conducive to the growth of a fighting game franchise and fostering a consistent development team that puts out good games. If it was, Soul Calibur would've probably been doing better than Tekken. Instead, Tekken is doing well because Harada had to ignore Bamco's structure and policies. There are people at Bamco and Project Soul who can make the series something more than it is, but they need to be allowed to do so.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyWhy go for a guaranteed moderate success when you can gamble away more dollars on a shitty gacha game or destiny clone.
You are not alone.Because gambling mechanics have been put under more scrutiny in recent years.
Kinda odd though that this is the reality we're seeing from Bandai-Namco, speaking more seriously. You'd think with the owners of the single most profitable fighting game series in gaming history (i.e. Tekken), not to mention the folks who stepped in to help with Super Smash Bros., beginning with its fourth game, that they'd have been MORE than on board with keeping the Soul Calibur train going... though then again, Tekken is because Katsuhiro Harada is just built differently, and Smash Bros... is motherfucking Smash Bros, AND Bandai-Namco isn't about to start ruining their really good relations with Nintendo now all of a sudden.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyI heard that (in SC 6) created characters you've favorited may show up as mercenaries you can hire in Libra of Soul. I checked and didn't see any like that right now, but while I was back in the mode for the first time in a long time, I tried to look into it, and as far as I know, there isn't some comprehensive list of all of the missions and side quests out there. The wiki's page on Libra of Soul is missing some missions that I have, but also mentions some missions (like this one
) that I don't.
Does anyone know if there's info out there on what all the missions are and what triggers them?
The sad, REAL American dichotomyIf there is another Soulcalibur entry in the future, it better not have character creation in it at all. Instead, it should focus on gameplay and SP content.
Why even have the CAS feature when they can only use the fighting style of the original roster anyway? IMO, this feature should have been exclusive to SCIII
Edited by daveisslick on Mar 3rd 2025 at 10:25:49 AM
Speaking of SCIII, I would love if some of the styles for the bonus characters were brought back as CAS exclusive, like how the Devil Jin style was exclusive to CAS in V.
Alternatively, Bamco could bring back some of the bonus characters.
Get taxed. Idiot. That's such an odd take that I kinda assume that was a troll? It's literally the only thing that troper has done on the site (no edits, no other forum posts) and as much as I say opinions can't be wrong... that opinion is just wrong.

I'd very much like for them to return, even if it's unlikely. But I also want to see more variety in the real world weapon types anyway, as I've mentioned before.
And part of the problem with the existing movesets on CAS characters is that many of the existing movesets show a lot of personality for their original character. Which is great for the original characters, don't get me wrong. But it also makes it feel a bit weird to try to have Edelgard use the one true axe discipline (Astaroth's), and have to make do with Seong Mina's most axe like weapon (actually a workable solution). But then it's even weirder when anyone you want to use a sword and shield discipline has to have some of the face-sitting techniques of the Alexandra sisters, or anyone with claws has to use Voldo's... everything.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyYeah, stuff like the need for a sword and shield CAS style especially without any of the over the top fanservice animations that come with Cass and Sophitia have imo been a problem for years. Especially since those characters have only gotten more exaggerated as the series goes on.
Edited by KnownUnknown on Mar 5th 2025 at 11:01:00 AM
Hell, it's even a problem in the game itself. They had to give Shugen Kokonoe an unobtainable version of Setsuka's weapon, moveset, and animations.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyI don't think so. I think it is because they are focused on other game series.
I half expected the developers to recon the spirt that possessed Jinpachi in Tekken to be Inferno or another demon that appears in the Soul series and that they would have Zasalamel as a Tekken fighter.
"May your heart be your guiding key"One of the features in my ideal Soul Calibur VII is a character creation system as expansive as III's.

I felt like they were doing too much... And then Siggy started winning rounds while floating upside down. I guess that was the point.
I wasn't trolling when I said that character creation should not be in future Soulcalibur games. It was my honest opinion that this series never needed it in the first place and that it should focus more on the story and gameplay elements.
I'd rather the regular fighters get all their alt outfits from previous games. It's old and tiresome seeing the same old character recreations from Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter etc. Besides, it's not the same thing and having Ca S feature can make it seem that the roster of fighters isn't relevant anymore.
Edited by daveisslick on Mar 12th 2025 at 3:53:07 AM
You can recreate many past costumes in the editor, especially since there is a setting for editing existing characters.
And existing characters are still far more relevant in SCVI, and the series as a whole outside of SCV. Especially when compared to Tekken and SF, that show minimal game to game loyalty to returning characters.
And what gameplay or single player was lacking to you? SCVI gave every returning character their own story mode, lore updates, a connection to Libra of Soul, and their own gameplay gimmick.
Edited by wanderlustwarrior on Mar 13th 2025 at 9:35:37 AM
The sad, REAL American dichotomyThe idea that CAS causes the series' gameplay to suffer makes no sense anyway, since those are two completely different areas of game design and there's zero means in which the existence of one would negatively impact the other in first place. It's not like including CAS somehow causes the designers who handle the combat to be unable to comprehend how fighting game design works.
Plus, in terms of potential, the adventure mode built out of CAS in SCIII is the most robust gameplay mode the series has ever had, maybe one of the most robust and well designed single player gameplay modes I've ever seen in a fighting game in the first place.
In terms of story, as
said that also rings false given that SCVI has maybe the best lore delivery in the entire franchise, expanding the characters' stories both through a massive character mode and through the CAS mode.

Well, we got Soul Claibur news!....Kinda. Harada made a very very, VERY long tweet about the series, its production, and its future
While Maximillian Dood also made a video on it.
Its almost akin to an entire history lesson of behind the scenes stuff we dont usually get to hear explictly, and at the end Harada still says there's hope for more in the future
