Well I think as long as the Wii U does what its doing, I really doubt we'll see one on the Wii U
youtube.com/Fire Trainer 92
I got a PS 2 for 2 games: Soul Calibur 3 (mainly) and Final Fantasy X. Was a good decision. Of course, I also wound up getting Wipeout Fusion, NBA 2k6, Makai Kingdom, Dead Or Alive 2, and some other stuff.
Alright, maybe we should get started on building an ideal game. Either a sequel or a dream game (which personally, I'd name Soul Calibur: Transcendent History)...
Main Game Modes
- Individual Story Mode (Tales of Souls)
- Arcade Mode
- Survival Mode
- Team Battle
- Online Mode
- Training Mode
- Museum
- profile, stage and weapon viewers
- exhibition demos and matches
- development artwork
- Music Player
- Replay!
- Customizer
- Create A Soul (and maybe CAS specific disciplines...)
- Color Editor
- Hmm... maybe a Weapon Forger, where you could choose some of those extra weapon effects and add them to your weapon! They'd probably each be worth different point values so you didn't stack all the good effects.
Alternate game mode: this is where we might have to make some hard choices... Personally, I prefer COTS to Weapon Master, and what made Weapon Master great, the special stage effects and the extra missions, could always be implemented into another mode (for example, a Title Defense defense/conquest mode after you beat COTS' main story). Plus, the COTS characters were actually unique. In any case, I'd say we'd probably have to choose more than one of these, but not necessarily all of them, being realistic.
- Chronicles of the Sword
- Challenge Tower/Tower Of Lost Souls/That bonus battle thing from 3
- Weapon Master
- World Competition
- Active Matching Battle? I still don't know what the hell this is...
(So me personally, in this set, I'd include COTS and Challenge Tower, with some influences from Weapon Master on each of them)
Characters:
Presuming this is a Dream Game: fucking everyone, as distinguished by Otherarrow,
below.
Presuming this is a sequel set before the timeskip, this is what I'd like to see (Mimics and other special notes are as previously mentioned.
Yes, I omitted Yunsung and most of the cast of 5. Nothing personal, but they're redundant.):
- Aeon Calcos
- Algol
- Amy/Viola (if Ivy taught her mysticism, as previously mentioned
)
- Astaroth
- Cassandra
- Cervantes
- Charade (grieve/wave/eye beams)
- Charade!Nightmare
- Dampierre (sure, why not?)
- Edge Master
- Elysium (moveset comprised of wielders of Soul Calibur, Necrid style)
- Hilde
- Hwang
- Ivy
- Kilik
- Li Long
- Maxi
- Mitsurugi
- Nightmare (Yandere-For-Seigfried!Nightmare)
- Olcadan
- Raphael
- Rock
- Seong Mi-Na
- Setsuka
- Siegfried
- Sophitia
- Taki
- Talim
- Tira
- Voldo
- Xianghua
- Yoshimitsu
- Zasalamel
Promoted to storyline characters:
- Ashlotte
- Bangoo
- Chie
- Salia
Personal/thread interest:
- Kunimitsu
- Some of the top winners of the CAS crowner, if we get that done and they have workable stories (of course I'd love if Uche and Leodegrance made it in...)
And of course, NPC bosses Night Terror (Inferno) and the Dancing Statue, and as mentioned later in the page, the shopkeepers Hualin, Valeria and Lynette.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyI'd be fine with "Dream Match Game" in all honesty. Hell, they can probably, at least partly, differentiate characters who got their move sets reassigned by having them using an older incarnation of the moveset. (Like, Xianghua uses the style as of IV, while Leixa uses the style as of V)
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.![]()
Me being a stickler for story, I'd have preferred a different sequel to SC 3, as we all know I've harped on incessantly.
Personally, I'd do a sorta "and what happened next"? kinda story which picks up from the character's most recent playable appearance, and for those who retired/died asks "what if they didn't retire/die?"
Like, Hwang and Li Long would pick up around the time of IV (since IV appears to take place not long after III) and detail what they did through IV and V (going into what if territory for Hwang in the later), Sophitia's would be a "what if Sophitia didn't die and tried to reunite with her kids" kinda thing, and so on.
This would allow fun what if scenario as well as explore the histories and exploits of otherwise one shot characters.
If that makes sense.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.There, finished the character section of my previous post. At least 36 characters. Possibly more, depending on if we can actually do the CAS crowner and reach a consensus.
The sad, REAL American dichotomySo now what would we upgrade the CAS with?
I'd make height a sliding scale rather than fixed heights (Though obviously no Yoda-short characters, for balance reasons). And otherwise generally increase the ranges for some proportions, mainly in the negative direction. Even the scrawniest possible males are still utterly jacked, and even the flattest possible females are still pretty busty. As far as I can tell, anyway.
Also, I've heard a lot about it taking too long to unlock all the equipment in V. Maybe make it easier to get everything?
Should we be able to customize their moves more, or should they just be re-statted reskins of whoever's fighting style they're copying?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I think if we brought back the COTS styles and fleshed them out, we might not need to make customizable movesets. That could get ridiculously complex and broken.
However, what do you guys think of my Weapon Forger suggestion?
More customizable physiques would be greatly appreciated.
TBH, I'd do away with the new meter system and return to the Soul Charge and Guard Impacts of SC 2. The new style seems quite a bit more Follow the Leader to Capcom's meter system, and in IV, it was the Mortal Kombat fatality inspiration for those finishers.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyMy personal list would be something like...
Folks from Soul Edge
- Siegfried
- Sophitia
- Taki
- Seong Mina
- Hwang
- Mitsurugi
- Yoshimitsu
- Li Long
- Rock
- Voldo
- Cervantes
Folks from Soul Calibur
- Nightmare
- Aeon Calcos
- Arthur (using SCIII Katana style)
- Maxi
- Kilik
- Xianghua
- Ivy
- Astaroth
- Inferno (boss only)
Folks from Soul Calibur II
- Cassandra
- Lizardmen (uses the SCIII Axe and Shield style)
- Yunseong
- Talim
- Raphael
Necrid
Folks from Soul Calibur III
- Zasalamel (with Abyss as an unlockable alternate costume)
- Tira
- Setsuka
- Olcadan
- Valaria (uses Grieve Edge style
- Hualin (uses Rod style)
- Lynette (uses Tamberine style)
- Night Terror (boss only)
Folks from Soul Calibur IV
- Hilde
- Algol
- Dampierre
- Ashlotte (solely because I like her)
Folks from Soul Calibur V
- Pyrrha (with Pyrrha Omega as an unlockable alternate costume, since Pyrrha Omega as a separate character would be redundant moveset-wise with Sophitia)
- Pat (No Alpha Pat costume, since it's just...armor broken Pat, but in black and blue. At least Pyrrha Omega gives her the demon arm and the eyes)
- ZWEI
- Viola (with Amy as an unlockable alternate costume)
- Natsu
- Xiba
- Elysium (boss only)
I tried to cull out the clones (and Amy...because Viola) and made only one of the mimics a "normal" playable character. (I picked Olcadan, since Olcadan is cool) I was probably a bit too inclusive, but hey. Dream match...ish.

Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.Being able to build custom weapons from various parts would be nice, too. I assume they'd function the same as a regular weapon, just reskinned?
Speaking of which, while you can make entire characters, there'd also be an option to create simple custom skins/costumes for either pre-existing characters or custom ones. Aside from being selectable from that character's icon/file, they'd also take up less room since they'd just be the costume and nothing else to save.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I wouldn't mind keeping the shopkeepers in at all. I liked them. And since they're the shopkeepers, they don't have to be in the story.
You know... if "Viola" is considered the game's "Amy", Salia could get a lot of Amy's moves.
Well yeah, not all the same moves, but a similar playstyle. ...accounting for the armor, of course.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyYeah, I could see that work. Salia...maybe not just getting Amy's moveset, but inheriting the same playstyle. (she doesn't strike me as a rapier user, you see)
I always liked the shopkeeps, so I had to include them.

Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.Co S needs to seperate facial hair from face selection, for pity's sake. They had it in 3! They had it in 3!!! That and they need to be very, very scarce with the "conflicting equipment" message. As far as I'm aware, that message didn't exist in 3. Make things fit together as nicely as possible, and aside from that, let the player choose if they care about clipping or not. Don't force the decision. There were non-conflicting pieces of equipment from Soul Calibur IV that suddenly conflicted with each other in V. Bad! Baaaaad!
They should probably just go ahead and give the player a face editor too. Preferably with several sliders for each feature, like Saints Row (pretty good face editor) or something.
To expand on the pattern feature, they should allow you to change the material or texture of the piece of equipment you're using. That would change both the bumpmap (aka, the finer 3D look of something like scales or leather), and the way lighting and color appear on the equipment. On a similar note, they shouldn't restrict themselves to only 4 color slots per equipment piece. Have as many slots as the equipment demands, to avoid leaving that one spot that can't be recolored.
In addition to their fine premade hairstyles, they should adopt a build your own hairdo feature similar to the hair customization in Tekken. Preferably, it'd be a little more refined and less rough around the edges than Tekken's though.
I like your guys' idea of a weapon customizer. Hilts, handles, counterweights, poles, trinkets, blades blades blades, whatever! Definite no-no to custom movesets though. Would like to see the Ca S styles return with refinement, but given how difficult fleshing out a balanced moveset is, it's unlikely. I always did like having an alternate style of a similar weapon though.
Arms, shoulders, and maybe even legs/feet should be selectable individually, so if you want a single pauldron on one shoulder but not the other, you can have that.
Similarly, I think some items would be interesting if you could wear them in different styles. Like if there is a certain metal helmet with the face guard lifted up, the player should be allowed to select "alternate style one" where it is down, or even a style where it jiggles around like it's drowning in grease. Or like a hood, you can choose to wear it up, wear it down, or let it move in reaction to the battle. Or a shirt with buttons, you can wear it buttoned up, unbuttoned, or partially buttoned. Or even a necklace, you can choose to wear it under or over specific layers of clothing.
Armor breaking should be completely optional and allow the player to choose which parts break off. Personalization is eeeeveeeerythiiiing (when it comes to Ca S, and unless we're talking about movesets).
Perhaps adopt getting dirty (as in getting gunk on your gear [not that gunk!]) during fights from Tag 2.
That's all I got on my mind right now.

They'll turn your world aroundI agree with everything you said there. More facial customization would be excellent in particular.
How about no gender restrictions on clothes and the like? If Animal Crossing of all games is willing to allow crossdressing than surely Soul Calibur can too.
Yeah, I think there were a couple of cases where a character I was making would've benefitted from a piece from the other side. But that was in 3. That's still an issue in 5?
The sad, REAL American dichotomyYeah, it's much scarcer, but some pieces are still exclusive to a single side. I think it's more the feminine stuff than anything though.
They'll turn your world aroundI'm all for making the shoulder, arm and glove pieces separate from each other; it'll allow for asymmetrical designs not allowed/limited by already-existing pieces. It could also bring the possibility of finally making the Nightmare Arms available for CAWs - maybe separated too, so we can do things like use only the claw piece on both hands, or use the shoulder pieces only as 'organic' armor. Speaking of separated pieces, I hope that they improve that aspect, making parts of main characters' costumes separate for even more options. Patroklos' bobcat shoulder cape should be separate from the coat underneath (that coat just looks really useful for 'imperial guard'-esque characters), and Elysium's arm trinkets mirrored on both arms would make for great alternatives to the default jeweled arm pieces, for example.
Separating the pieces like that would also help improve a clothing damage on/off system, where the creator can set which parts will break off. It can lead to fun things like a masked man's helmet shattering and revealing nothing more than a skull, or a woman's hat being shredded, revealing a giant purple afro.
It's just so silly when this 'system' almost always results in a battle between two fully-armored warriors becoming a slap-fest between two people in their underwear; it takes you out of the 'feel' of the fight, you know?
I also agree with wanting a create-a-weapon system: blades, hilts, color, and maybe a few slots for markings you'd want to put on parts of the weapon. C'mon Namco, let us put 'tenka musou' on our samurai's katana, or a heart on our knight's bastard sword!
One more thing: the Japanese character add-ons really should have come with translations so those of us unable to read moonspeak can actually use them properly.

So toggling various clothes to be "indestructible" or "destructible"? Sounds pretty neat.
Though probably just toggling clothing damage altogether on and off would be sufficient. Or three levels: All can be destroyed, only extraneous items like jackets and armor, or no destruction.
As long as the aforementioned underwear slap-fights aren't always the end result.
Though it is funny when you get something like Gabe Newell's shirt being destroyed.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I was all on board with it until I saw Damnpierre on the list; then I had to proceed as if I hadn't.
Not sure about the Forge; it sounds cool, but then you bring it into online play... I think it'd depend on how many different effects you could cram into what weapon and who works how well with what effect.
EDIT: Also, the clothing damage effect has needed an Off button (with or without On button) since they introduced it to the series.
EDIT 2: BTW, I'm pretty sure Pierre didn't show up on console until V.

Ponders too much; thinks too little. Currently goes by Knowlessman.

Yeah, but specifically the fact that he can Ring Out himself with Sword Pogo. I guess it was funny because I discovered it by accident.
Man, I wish Nintendo consoles would start getting main-series Soul Calibur games again. The combat system was fun back in II and the whole Create-A-Soul thing makes me very envious.
