I know what you mean, but I don't consider it the same thing. Those were different variants of the same stage, but once the battle started, you are stuck in the version you picked.
In V, the arena changes between rounds if the conditions are met.
Though being able to pick which "setting" you start in would be nice, though for some stages, like Maxi's or Elysium's, being able to do so would either make no sense or spoil the mood.

Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.It is strange that levels like Ancient Citadel or Free Imperial City Center lack alternate layouts if you score a Ring Out. Fighting by the riverbank or in the lower levels of the city would've been pretty cool.
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarI remember one stage in IV had two walls you could knock over by knocking a dude into them, as well. Also, one was basically a seesaw, but I don't think it actually affected anything.
Also, II's ice stage was hilarious. IV's didn't come close.
Ponders too much; thinks too little. Currently goes by Knowlessman. You're speaking of Voldo's stage, Phantom Pavilion. Stages in IV and V had their own interactive elements note , but it's not quite the same as triggering a move to a completely different area of the same stage as seen in V (though I'm sure you're already aware of that, thus making me come across as a know-it-all
).
The problem with Ice Coffin of the Sleeping Ancient is that it lacked the (hilarious) ice stage effects that the one Egyptian Crypt variation had. Actually, I think that SCII was the only title that had stage effects to begin with (and they were all limited to Egyptian Crypt if I'm not mistaken).
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarSoul Calibur III had stage effects in Chronicles of the Sword and some of the bonus modes.
They'll turn your world aroundYeah, in SCII the only selectable stage effect stages were in the Egyptian Crypt. I wouldn't be surprised if others existed but were only in Edge Master mode though. I do know that there are a handful of variants for each of the "dungeon" stages that never leave Edge Master mode.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.Yeah, I meant by default. Weapon Master Mode in II and Mission Mode and COTS in III had plenty of stages with their own zaniness: earthquakes, bomb explosions launching you into the air if you hit the wall or ground, wall damage doing a number on your health, launcher attacks putting you in free fall for a good 5 or so seconds...
Ah, those were the days.
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarAh, the good old days...
I almost got a PS 2 today, but the one I found for cheap, that I could just use for a week and return, but it didn't have the cables...
And then I found out I could use my PS 3 cables on the PS 2. I picked it and the controller up, biked the 6 miles home with it on my back in the middle of the Texas summer (because I could), and...
The controller doesn't work.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAAAA;LAHNS;BASFG!!!!
Well. Off to get a controller.
Got a new controller. Time to play the...
Console freezes when trying to display characters outside of character creator.
That's it. I give up for today.
Well, at least I can post my character recipes.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyOkay, I will. In this very post even!
There could be a variety of reasons for this. Unfortunately I doubt we'll ever know unless someone spills the beans or we work on the Soul Team. A man can dream.
I managed to beat that overgrown mutant lobster today. YES!
I admit I used a guide. :(
I gotta agree.
The final bosses get some really good themes don't they? I thought Abyss was really cool, at least to the same degree as Night Terror.
"'Let the power of hellfire, sink into your soul.''"
He can make that line work for me at least.
My personal favourite is still the icy levels.

Ahh, that sucks Wander. Well done for biking it though.
And on a final note, I still haven't really unlocked as much as I'd like for character creation so I'm going to post just some of my colour edits for the cast:
- Hulk-Astaroth
◊
- Grim reaper Zasalamel
◊
- Herp a derp Yun
◊
- Red dread Pirate
◊ (Bad pun FTW!)
- Classic Ivy
◊
I apologise for the bad picture quality, you got to make to do with what you got.

Nitpick, but the line is "Let the power of hellfire...sink into your soul". No "I'll". It's a callback to one of Zasalamel's win quotes, which goes "Let the power of my words...sink into your soul".

Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.So I've figured out that the problem is ...somewhere. The PS 2 seems to have issues reading created and bonus characters specifically, even for the Battle Theatre, but battle theatre fights between two regular characters seems to work. So it seems the issue is with accessing CAS parts outside of CAS itself. So, I'm not sure if the issue is the console or the disc. Ah... the problem is also in the Event Viewer, but not the movie viewer. Doesn't look like I'll be playing Tales of Souls anytime soon...
That is a nice Zasalamel edit. Also, he just plain has a great costume. Some of my edits are just certain characters in black, because it looks better on them. Setsuka's second costume, for example. Also, I've been reminded just by watching her in battle theatre once what made me dislike her. It wasn't her design, it was her quotes.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyI'll post images when I figure out an easy way to do that.
Name: Author Avatar
◊
- Costume Parts:
- Long Straight Hair(1,27)
- Barbarian's Necklace(01,14)
- Barbarian's Belt(03,03)
- Cloth Vest, Tapered Pants (17,04)
- Cloth Gauntlets, Bandit's Shoulders, Samurai Shin Guards, Cloth Shoes (08,18)
- Face 7, eyebrows (01,24), lips (03,02), eyes (02,27), skin (09,25), voice: Young Man 2
- Design Idea: I'd envisioned something influenced by standard attire in my culture
, only cut short at the sleeves and with a cut open chest, to suggest this is the kind of person who would rather seem imposing to ward off fights with the average person, because he'd rather not fight or be bothered at all. For an alternate, I'd have something much more similar to Igbo war dance attire, which would actually fit with some of the regular series costume designs. I chose the hair I did because it looked nice, though the Shaved Head option would be more fitting, and is what I'll be using from now on. I may use the Cursed Belt (17,04) depending on how that changes his voice lines. As for a weapon, I'd have him use twin machetes, the smaller of which could be docked besides the larger, to form something similar to a broad sword with a space in the middle.
- Characterization: I'd have him be a chief-in-waiting, exploring the world for new ways of thought and to protect his people. He'd be 17, and I'd have him meet Talim and Seung Mina.
Name: Chie
◊
- Costume Parts:
- Double Pigtails (32,09 / 34,27)
- Metal Headband, Scale Bustier, Slit Pants, Tabi, Gladiator's Boots (34,27)
- Metal Braces, Samurai Sleeves (07,04)
- Face 6, eyebrows (31,04), lips (33,04), eyes (30,25), skin (09,15), voice: Woman
- Design Idea: Self-explanatory. I didn't know what her face would be like, so at first I'd thought of something tougher, but seeing more images of her, and to provide a counterpoint to Taki, I'm thinking I'll go with something tougher. The purple just looked cool to me. Logically, and as a good alternative, her hair would be black. In fact, her hair looks much better black, but just like with the above character, I posted as they were when I designed them years ago. Black hair does have her looking a bit too similar to Taki, though. She'd use Katana and Shuriken, specifically, Suigetsuto & Ukifune or Genma & Kokuen.
- Characterization: Again, self-explanatory. But, if you'd like more, having had the kid, she decides to be more proactive in leading the clan, and helping Taki and Li Long.
Name: Leodegrance
◊
- Costume Parts:
- Musketeer Hat(10,04 / 02,19)
- Slicked Back Hair(01,15)(if I could reverse these colors for a regular salt and pepper look...)
- Edgemaster Beard(08,13)
- Pirate's Jacket, Crusader Cape, Tapered Pants (02,21)
- Breastplate, Dragon Gauntlets, Lord's Shoulders, Heko-Obi, Evil Leg Armor (09,16)
- Face 13, eyebrows (01,20), lips (03,06), eyes (24,05), skin (05,16), voice: Man
- Design Idea: Noble + Knight. That's the gist of it. What I'd have liked would be for the knee, shoulder and helmet section of the armor to be shaped like lions' heads (no lower jaw on the shoulders). He'd use Lance, specifically "Sacrifice".
- Characterization: Basically, I'd wanted an English noble. I figured he might be an older, well-renowned and popular knight, with a lot of government influence. He'd be sent on a mission to retrieve the sword(s) for the benefit of his country. Of course, this is possible a Uriah Gambit by the monarchy to get a rival out of the way. He'd be familiar with the Valentine family.

The sad, REAL American dichotomy@ Ryuhza: "Bloom... and fall!"
@ Anom: When Dora says, "Swiper, no swiping!", she means it.
Man, all this talk about CAS makes me realize that I need to buy a need PS2 controller or two... assuming they're even sold at stores anymore. One of my controllers that came with the console back when I first bought it (way back in 2000/2001) has pretty much had it (the wires are exposed and everything). The other is holding up pretty well, but the left arrow on the d-pad isn't as responsive as it used to be (which doesn't help me when I decide to dust off any of my old fighters).
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarSome people have too much time on their hands.
Like me! I once made the entire Scooby Doo gang (Scooby included of course) for SoulCalibur V. And once I made Heath Ledger's Joker, and found a Batman to challenge him in the Grand Coliseum (Bats won, as per usual. Departing message was, "You're going back to Arkham.") I may have the match saved in my recordings too...
I've also made the Lucky Charms mascot, Johnny from The Room, former US President candidate Newt Gingrich (my friend had intended to play speeches over a microphone while the battles progressed), this guy
from the awful Dungeons and Dragons movie of yore, Ash Ketchum, uh... a bunch of others that have slipped my mind. On top of that, a plethora of original characters that range from dumb, to really, REALLY dumb, with such names as Tsinogatorp, OREH, Egdelwonk, Russell the Eagle Wizord, Soup, ???, and of course Brad the Genie.
They've really got to lift the 50 character limit though. I constantly have to shuffle characters in and out.
They'll turn your world around...I've probably made less than twenty between IV and V, and they're all OC's. :/ 'Cept one's a likeness of Laeven (my avatar), who is himself an OC. Probably gonna take pictures (or try to) and upload 'em soonish. I'll probably just use either my iPod or my camera for that.
Ponders too much; thinks too little. Currently goes by Knowlessman.I'm wondering, I have 2,3,4 and Broken destiny, and I was wondering about 5. It's about 20ish dollars now at gamestop and I'm wondering if I should snatch it up now.
Is 4 better to keep playing? or should I jump ship to 5? I really did love 2 and 3, they were just plain Awesome sause. I just hear the whole story's gone weirder (at all I've watched, this is very much so)
That, and should I try to look around for Mame and SC 3:AE?
Also, are there any comics / doujins at all for this series? Anything fun or funny to for the series? (I have found this...
)

Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.Well, V added a couple things to the character creator (namely photo things that you can put backgrounds and things on and "special equipment" and stickers and things) and took out the whole Rainbow Pimp Gear thing that IV had going on, along with the special abilities. The Story Mode as we knew it is pretty much gone, as are maybe a third of the characters. Some of the actual movesets might have gotten easier to use, though; I know Ivy's did.
So yeah, I dunno. :/ If creating characters is your favorite part of the game, it might be worth it. You still can't customize their faces, though.
EDIT: I got it at Target for fourteen dollars, and the only reason I ever picked it up again after beating the storyline was because a friend of mine started playing it online.

Ponders too much; thinks too little. Currently goes by Knowlessman.I'd recommend getting V over sticking with IV. V has its fair share of problems, but on the gameplay side of things, it's the best SC's been since II, the CAS also blows IV's out of the water.

There was a different version of that in earlier games. In 2, for example, the Money Pit would have different variants. One with walls, preventing ring outs, one with a larger area, and one with a smaller area. Labyrinth would have different shapes you could select from (also, to make the dungeons less monotonous in Weapon Master). Etc.
Had I remembered, I'd have included mention of it in the Best Feature crowner.
