As I said, I apologize for judging you, that was wrong of me to do, and I do feel bad for it.
However, I do feel that I shouldn't be criticized for reading your posts, even if I misjudged your tone (it happens! Sorry.) You put them out there, and trying to deflect criticism (even if wrongly placed criticism, as it may be) with "you don't know me" sounds...a wee bit silly.
Also, on the subject of the crowner, does anyone else feel that Nightmare's style might be at a disadvantage since it was a late addition?

Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.I don't think he is at a disadvantage. If someone is reading the posts, they would specifically note he was added. If someone wanted to vote on him, they would have noticed his omission (as you did) or seen him when he was included. It would be more of a disadvantage if it were later in the day, but at the moment, with the inclusion made halfway through the day, at a time before most responders would have stopped looking, it's alright.
The silliness as intentional, and a bit of a subtle jab I couldn't resist. Sorry.
To clear up my two statements of apathy at the top of the last page:
- the first, on the games, was because doing a full crowner for things I don't feel strongly for, in the middle of the night, without really any appreciation or statement of lack of interest from the thread, is draining. Thus, I asked for help. As none responded, I may just skip the best music crowner entirely.
- The second, in the new cast of 5, was my explaining that as I could not make a fully informed decision as to the gameplay of the new characters, I included them in a case of "better safe than sorry".

The sad, REAL American dichotomyThat's fair enough.
As for music...yeah, I'd be OK if we skipped. I like a lot of the music, but the only track that I could probably identify by name is Regalia from V.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.SC's music is fantastic, especially the first 3 games, no way are we skipping. Go listen to the soundtracks from those on youtube or something if you can't recall any of them, it's worth it. I love Feather in the wind reprise
, In the name of Father
, Recollect Continent
, Gears of Madness
, Guided By The Wind
, Raise Thy Sword
, and Eternal Struggle
. The latter games' soundtracks aren't as good IMO but still very solid.
I hope Regalia doesn't win. It doesn't sound Soul series at all. Thanatos had the same issue(and sounded better IMO), what's with Algol's themes and sounding like they're from completely different games? Bleh.
edited 25th Jul '13 2:49:32 PM by Vertigo_High
Regalia sounds like something from Tekken.
And VH, how could you not mention SAIL OVER THE STORM!?
edited 25th Jul '13 2:58:36 PM by Ryuhza
They'll turn your world aroundI think his theme's not fitting is the point.....
The guy has bubble canons and a teleporting throne..
He doesn't fit but yet...he does....
Edit: He's also missing Under the Star of Destiny, Chasing Death, Maze of the Blade, Labyrinth of The Moonlight, Courage Ablaze, Through the Molten Caves. We could go on about SC's Soundtrack.
Im not even gonna go into Soul Blade's soundtracks....

youtube.com/Fire Trainer 92In doing music crowners, we would link to each song on You Tube.
I am willing to do the work for sc2 and sc3. If anyone wants to do the others, claim it today, otherwise I'm not doing it.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyAgreed. Shall I work my Power Point presentation magic?
I see the wisdom in that. Though because of what you put I had some ideas as well. Onimusha characters? A Kunimitsu-like ancestor perhaps? Hmm, somebody from games like Dragon Age, Skyrim etc? Or how about original Dante? Apparently he was supposed to appear in Soul Calibur 3. Well, according to a magazine I used to read at the time. Though just imagine characters like Darkstalkers' Bishamon and Garuda throwing down....
I do quite like your discussion on it and the ideas that came forth from that as well. Just saying.

Dante would've been sick in SCIII
Also...looking back at SCIII. Why does SCII look a lot better than it does?
youtube.com/Fire Trainer 92Soul Calibur III's music wasn't shabby at all, either.
You've got Water Dance
, Forsaken Sanctuary
, Through Molten Caves
, No Regrets
, Fearless Eyes
, Call of the Ancients
, Time Marches On
...
Heck, even the non-stage stuff is great too. Eternal Wayfarer
lives and breathes Soul Calibur flair. Very mood setting! Or the Creation Music (Radiant Souls)
or the Chronicles of the Sword Theme (Symphony of Swords)
There's way too many to list. It boggles my mind that they were able to put out so much great music in one game.

They'll turn your world around![]()
SC 2 looked very, very good for its time. In fact I'd say it's the best looking fighter of its generation.
And I'd definitely agree with you.
Yeah the Crowner for Music is a bit daunting.
youtube.com/Fire Trainer 92Wow, Soul Calibur 1's 'sail over the storm' is awesome. O_O
Seeing as everybody listed most of the good ones, I'll mention only two. Bravely Folk Song is still my favourite song from the entire series. And that's saying something.
Honourable mention goes to Doubtful Judgement.

I'm surprised the cots/case disciplines aren't getting many votes. I'm the only person who voted on several of them, at the moment. Did you guys just not play them? Or remember how they played? I remember spending most of my time with them. Iron Sword was simple but fun. Kunai had all those flips and that neck throw. LANCE SPIN! Katana and teleport shuriken throw! And possibly the biggest surprise, and the one I used to beat Strife, katana. Here I was, thinking "hasn't this weapon been done to dea-SOMERSAULT BODY SLAM!!1!"

See? Even splitting each game to its own day, and doing a final round at the end, that's seven crowners total and a fuckton of work. I'm even offering to do three of the seven, but to not get any offer of support makes me not want to do this stuff at all. At least Arha helped out in the Bleach thread...

The sad, REAL American dichotomy
Oh, I loved using them, but I acknowledge that deep down they were much less refined than the other movesets, and therefore I have a hard time voting them up as "Best".
They'll turn your world aroundFair enough. I do agree that they weren't complete. As suggested previously I'd even consider combining aspects of somw, like my suggestion for Charade.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyThe only COTS styles I liked were the Sword and Shield(the beatdown attack throw was awesome), Lance(which was odd looking and needed work but awesome) and the Sword and Shruiken.
Not gonna count Chinese Sword and Nunchaku cuz..you know made into legit styles in AE.
The others were like awkward as hell and looked stupid.

youtube.com/Fire Trainer 92I'd love to see them get brought back and properly polished for a future game. And then they could assign them to specific bonus characters to keep the movesets tournament friendly.
They'll turn your world aroundWow I forgot how awesome Dampierre's theme is...sadly its attached to such a terrible character but hey...
youtube.com/Fire Trainer 92@ Vertigo: I dunno. In a way, I can somewhat concur with how different "Thanatos" and "Regalia" are from the rest of the music (although the former's interlude sounds like it fits the bill), but I guess when they're the themes for an ancient ruler who has swords, bone daggers, and portable ballistic weaponry protruding out of his body, all bets are off. Plus, they're still pretty good pieces. "Doubtful Judgement" (see below) was pretty hard rock too, and I don't have a hard time fitting that into my schema with it comes to songs.
@ Hellman: Yes, please. The magic of PowerPoint might help Odashima and Project Soul put out a sequel that doesn't end up destroying the fanbase.
Oooh, Onimusha. Well, the main characters do use soul-sucking Oni Gauntlets...
As for a Kunimitsu-like ancestor, I feel that Soulcalibur might as well put in some previous holder of the name Kunimitsu in as well. (My headcanon is that the current-day Manji Party in Tekken consists of a fusion of the Fu-Ma clan and Manji Party circa Soulcalibur V. For the sake of irony, the original Kunimitsu isn't a backstabbing traitor.)
I would've loved to see Dante because, well, it's Dante (and he'd be pulling out more weapons than Link had), but at the same time, he'd mesh with Soulcalibur not much better than some of the other guests (even if the series, 1 and 4 in particular, had a very gothic feel to it). His guns would probably break the game balance, too.
@ wander: If my time wasn't spent toiling away at a job that eats up my time and sanity, I would definitely offer to help. Unfortunately... I have yet to break away from said employment.
I liked the CAS styles too (voted for a few of 'em myself), but I'm on the same boat as Ryuhza.
@ Mike: Are you speaking of Le Bello?
On the music crowner:
We... should probably skip. The Soul series literally has too much good music per game (including both the OST and Khan Super Session soundtrack for Soul Edge and Broken Destiny's original compositions and arrangements of IV's tunes) that each individual game would merit its own separate day of voting.

"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarI keep saying a music crowner would be several days.
Well, I'll work on a features crowner now. Remember, you guys can add options yourselves.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyI think The New Legend
(Kilik's Theme) would have my vote and defense as the best Soul Calibur track. Either version works.

They'll turn your world around

My exact words included "It is also why I don't have to play 5 to know it isn't for me. There is next to nothing appealing to me about it." Emphasis added.
However, they are very real games that happened, and I have seen enough to form opinions on some things, and to include it in a discussion. That's why I included things from it in each of the crowners, why I voted on its characters, and why I did not vote in its entries in this current character gameplay crowner, yet includes them as options anyway. As well, my opinions have not been as vitrolic as you are making them seem.
Ironically, by your own standard, as you have not met me, you should be incapable of making or voicing such strong opinions about me or my opinions.
In any case, I'm done arguing this. Back to your regularly scheduled crowner week.
