If they wanted to be true to Ocarina Of Time, Link could have had at least three, basic, easy to execute four hit combos. They could have made his spin attack behave the way it did in Ocarina Of Time. They could have just better integrated his strikes. Maybe they could have made sure chaining into the bow wouldn't be just to watch arrows miss.
Not saying I expected Link to be like he was in games not released, though Namco could have asked to see Wind Waker. I expected Link to fit in well with the rest of the roster, like advertised. I've already been over why he didn't look the part, much less play it. I can't say there was zero inspiration, Link's death roll was pretty, the impale charge was nostalgic but they still dropped the ball. Namco had a chance to something special with an icon and didn't.
Well, honestly there's nothing we can do about it at this point. What's done is done. No use crying over spilled milk. Unless you have a Time Machine or something...
I think you're one of the few people who feels this way about Link. Outside of Tournament Play, most thought that was fun to play as and that he was pretty accurate to the games at the time Soulcalibur II was released.
I thought Link was just fine. Being 'true' to Oo T would be useless, since the combat takes an inherently different approach. If Link shows up again for SC 5, though, I hope he brings in some moves from Twilight Princess.
Besides, there isn't a better Nintendo character to guest star.
As for the incoming changes, I always did like Siegfried as a hero, but that's probably because he's an expy of folklore Siegfried. And Soul Calibur never had good dialogue, either... so I guess who gets to be the hero makes small difference. A reboot with a more coherently told story, better dialogue and voice acting, and the return of Weapon Master mode would be excellent.
I don't know who'd make a better hero, though. A lot of the characters are more or less okay, but would be irritating if the story revolved around him. Siegfried is really hammy in a Mighty Germanic Hero sort of way, but he's not flat-out obnoxious like Maxi. Or irritating like Killik. Amy is a neato recent addition and could potentially be plot-centric enough to become the focal point. By proxy, it'd bring Raphael into the spotlight a bit more, too.
Apparently Hilde's sword is on the teaser site I'm told (haven't played 4, so can't be sure), so it could be her.
Mitsurugi? Voldo? Talim? Zalsalamel?
Also, Nintendo could use Heracles, Icarus(though I'd rather they didn't) or Pit(I wouldn't mind). One of their new characters from Pandora's Tower, Monado: The Beginning Of The World or The Last Story may work too.

Voldo as the main character? That would be...odd...
According to Daishi, Mitsurugi was the main character of Soul Edge, but it was ultimately Sophitia (shattered one of the two Soul Edges), Taki (killed Cervantes), and Siegfried (defeated Inferno!Cervantes and took Soul Edge) who played the biggest roles. The more morally ambiguous characters like Zasalamel, Ivy, or Raphael could work, but a more traditionally Good character like Talim might prove to be a better choice.
As long as the story is told well and the choice of protagonist isn't too ridiculous (i.e. Yun-seong, whose been clinging to the Idiot Ball like his life depended on it; or say, Astaroth), I wouldn't really mind.
They could have Capton Falcon as the Nintendo fighter./shot
They could use Ratchet for PlayStation, His weapon could be his wrench./shot again
-bleeds out- -dies-
Ooh! Nintendo's guest character could be MewTwo. His weapon could be a spoon!/shotgun'd
I think spoon Mewtwo could still be used in the future...though he'd likely be as fair as the Star Wars characters were.
I would love spoon Mewtwo. So much.
On a serious note, I hope that the evil Soul Calibur turns out to have been a fake. I don't know. Making Soul Calibur evil wasn't a good move in my opinion.
Finally! Someone agrees with me!
I know! Spoon Mewtwo would be awesome!

What differentiates evil Soul Calibur and Soul Edge? Apart from evil Soul Calibur being prettier?
I wonder if Algol will be made fully canon. IV made it so that Abyss and Night Terror were "what-if" characters.
Soul Calibur was supposed to be the good and holy opposite to the infernal Soul Edge. Then it was retconned (I think) into being a shard of Soul Edge that was purified and made holy. Then they decided to make it just as evil as Soul Edge.
So..... how many other people other there enjoyed the crap out of Weapon Master mode and want to see something similar.
Not sure what to think about 5; the single player stories of 4 felt rushed and empty. Especially when compared to 3 or even 2.
I'm impartial to Evil!Soul Calibur since Inferno's ending in SCI had him say that he intentionally corrupted Soul Calibur (and since she was born from one of Soul Edge's purified shards, he could have been reawakening her true nature; not to mention that Soul Calibur was trapped with Inferno for four years, so I figure that it would have done something to her), but I do think that making her go all Knight Templar was a bit too far. Molding her into more of a Well-Intentioned Extremist would probably be better. Maybe they'll drop that altogether.
Nah, the purification wasn't a retcon.
The difference between Edge and Calibur is basically that it's Order vs. Chaos rather than Good vs. Evil. Originally, the game seemed to be going for a more Zoroastrian/Judeo-Christian theme with absolute good vs absolute evil. However, as the story went along, it became more and more buddhist (with the main theme becoming transcending mortal binds, as shown mostly through Kilik & Edge Master) and a bent for "balance".
As I've said before, that was just the final straw for me, as the story had been becoming Darker and Edgier and rife with Deus Angst Machina with every passing game.
No, it's been canon since the first game that The Hero King (aka Algol) forged Soul Calibur from a purified shard of Soul Edge after he killed his son Arcturus when the cursed sword took him over.
I did. I'd very much like to see Weapon Master return in SCV.

Also, hell yeah the story of IV was "empty". I mean, check out the intros to
Soul Calibur 2
Soul calibur 3
Soul Calibur 4
I mean, my god.
I don't mind corrupted Soul Calibur, Soul Calibur just as bad by default seems a bit much.
I know its discontinuity to fans, but I preferred Soul Calibur Legends explanation. Everyone using the holy Soul Calibur just happened to be evil while you with the evil sword happened to have good intentions. Besides that though, I like to think of Legends as a "what if". It could use an arcade mode and more player vs player.
Imagine this: Mewtwo wielding a big 'ol fleshy spoon with an eyeball. Fuck yeah!
In moon peoples' speak, that was an "Agreed."
