@page topper: yeah, like I've been noticing before, there's a lot more potential for variety in certain types of fiction, including in this series.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyIsn't Soul Calibur's main gimmick being the "sword fighter?" If they give that up and start introducing more variety it turns into Tekken where you get vampires and Final Fantasy characters and crazy alien ninjas.
Dead or Alive started with runaway ninja princesses and it's latest iteration introduced a moe, big-boobed girl with no backstory who instantly became a fan favorite.
Street Fighter? Don't even get me started on how forgettable most of the newer roster is, for all of its variety and strange character designs.
I mean, more weapon styles, yeah. But, I don't really see a problem with "guy with a sword." Nearly everyone in this series is a guy with a sword. The half/third that aren't are women with swords (or a chakram)
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!1. No.
2. Even if it were, I already pointed out there's far more variety to 16th century weapons besides "straight or slightly curved blades of varying lengths". It'd be like having a modern shooting game in which every playable gun was a different type of revolver. Embarrassingly limited.
Oh, and alien ninjas? Are you talking about Yoshimitsu? The descendant of the guy who is in this same series?
We just went over this last month. 5 pages ago. You were there.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyI look at it this way: If Geralt weren't a guest character, would he stand out in any way?
This song needs more love. Are we talking looks alone or background included?
Because a warrior that hunts down monsters with a blade and magic combination sounds kinda cool especially when the character looks like they have experienced a lot of battles with their aged look.

"Shall I use you, or make you mine... I'm not so sure what I'll do." - DorthyGerald is a solid choice, If I have to choose between him & Zoro than it going to be The Witcher. I like Zoro as much as the next guy but after the Star Wars guest, I like to rein it back on the on the wildness.

He honestly seems fine to me, though he's not my first choice.
Also that.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyI'm more than happy with Geralt, especially over Zoro. Not that I don't have anything against the character specifically but One Piece's notorious fanbase has gotten me pretty sick of it, and I'd much rather have a Tales or God Eater character as guest characters with "wild" playstyles. Fuck, I'd even take Medieval Spawn at this point.
Oh for sure, though given MS was being Screwed by the Lawyers at the time, I'm not surprised they didn't go that route back in the day. Would've been nice to at least have the Hellspawn's from the Dark Ages or Curse of spinoffs be alts though.

Like he's a dude with a sword. And he fights like a dude with a sword. Plus a small bit of magic. Which you know, is fine, I just think that guest characters should be more visually and thematically striking than the non-guests.
