Negima!: A New Class - Interest, Planning and Signup Thread-

So, here's my attempt to make an RP in the universe of Ken Akamatsu's Negima. The kind of place where a ten year old mage from Wales goes to Japan to become the teacher of a Girl's Only Middle School Class. And almost every girl in his class has a description just as peculiar as that one.

The setting is clearly Urban Fantasy, with mages, monsters, vampires, aliens, demons, samurai, ninja among many many other elements making an appearance. All behind a wizard enforced Masquerade enforced by turning the transgressors into ermines.

Now what I was planning was starting a new class full of misfits 8 years after the arrival of Negi Springfield to Mahora. Most of the characters from the manga would have naturally graduated by this point... others would have to be discussed, though some cameos might be good fun.

The tone of the RP would be the same as that of the series, which is a weird blend of humor, action and a little darkness every once in a while. Also there will be a lot of freedom for the players to come up with events and situations in the course of the game. At any moment that seems fitting the players might introduce a new crisis or problem for the members of our new class to deal with. Events which are a little longer and more complex would have to be approved first, but coming up with such plans would be encouraged as long as the person proposing it is considerate of the other players taking part.

So is anyone interested? Have an opinion on what should have changed in Mahora Academy? Have any other questions?

I have a character idea: an artificial mage middle school girl who is known as the strange Cloud Cuckoolander, she uses Razor Floss and Shock and Awe to fight her enemies, including one Punch-Clock Villain Ambiguously Gay Noble Demon who looks like Kaworu Nagisa. She is very open about what goes on, but she is a known Cloud Cuckoolander, she insists her cat is a godlike being, insists that the flower in a pot in the empty classroom is evil incarnate and Ax-Crazy, and she eats her sushi in a peculiar order.

I'd like to join this. Perhaps my Genki Girl Vampire character would fit nicely here.

What of Male students?

I'm not really all that up to date on all of the events of Negima, I've fallen a bit out of date but I know whats happened up to somewhere a little past Rakan's death to Fate.

Which brings another good question, this is Negima! the first Manga series yes? The Naming convention suggests this, or possibly the Anime canon that splits and differs from the Manga on many points and is cut short with a different ending.

And what of the masquerade? You are going to get a lot more people trying to be super-natural than those that just play normal people.

Nick: Huh... Nick, have you read some of the material? It gets quite wacky but not to that level of crazy.

Reiken: Male students are one of the things which need to be discussed... I don't know if I should stick them in a different class or maybe make this class be mixed if there are enough male applications.

Also, we would be following the manga continuity. Which, since it's not finished and we'll be going with a pretty much all new cast, won't turn up that much. Keeping up with the manga won't be necessary.

And while I expect some P Cs to already know of the Masquerade, playing a character that doesn't know the secret should be fun too. After all, not knowing about the masquerade doesn't mean that your PC will be all that normal. In the worst case scenario I'll make a lot handle some girls who don't know about magic.

Aw man, so many R Ps are popping up recently that I'd love to take part in... Hopefully I'll be able to fit this one into my schedule somehow, as I loved Negima when I was reading it (need to get back to that, actually. Last I left off they were all going to a ball or something). Um... Hmmm... I think I might be able to rattle up something. I'm actually thinking of a girl who isn't in on the masquerade at the moment, but... We shall see.

Anyway, I'll be waiting to see what people come up with. To date I have in mind a nagitana user, a member of the CG Commitee, a no non-sense merchant girl and a girl that's apparently a hikikomori.

Hm... Depending on how many students would be abnormal, I'm thinking of having my character try and keep her vampirism a secret, is loud, annoying, energetic, yet pitifully weak (to the point where any random person on the street has a good chance of beating her in a fight, regardless of magic) and bad at all subjects. Except P.E. or something.

I almost forgot, here's the character sheet for those who wish to start working on their characters.

  • Name:
  • Gender:
  • Role: Most people would be students but if you want to create a teacher, nurse or something feel free to try. Futhermore this would be the place to add what your chatarec is. For example 'Student/Vampire Ninja Robot Maid'
  • Seat Number and Class: For students only. Aside from exceptions We'll be playing mostly in class 2A. Your seat number would normally be given Alphabeticaly by your last name, but since we would need all names from everyone in the class to arrange that, feel free to pick any number.
  • Personality:
  • Appearance:
  • Clubs: Mahora has a club for almost anything you may imagine. From walking around aimlessly to superior engineering.
  • Abilities: What can your character do?
  • Backstory: nothing too special required, mostly here for those who do need to explain something in their pasts.

  • Name: Lucy Marsh

  • Gender: Female

  • Seat Number and Class: Class 2A, seat 29

  • Personality: Lucy is rather loud, and can get annoying very easily, constantly boasting of her greatness and various achievements (all of which are lies), and while she doesn't exactly look down on others, she believes herself to be a 'higher being on equal ground'. She is also constantly upbeat and confident in herself, and even spares some confidence to cheer on class mates if need be. However, despite her talk, she is pitifully weak for a vampire. Her magic could barely flinch a normal person, and her physical strength barely qualifies as average. Just about her only strength is various sports, such as Basketball or Volleyball.

  • Appearance: Lucy stands at 5'2", with pale grey eyes, although she wears green contacts to keep up a more 'normal' look, and her hair is black, reaching her waist, and is always either tied into two, long ponytails or wrapped around her neck like a scarf. A blue or yellow bow may be tied onto her hair on occasion. Outside of her school uniform, Lucy also wears 'summer wear' pretty much all year round, with bulkier clothing only in the most extreme of weather.

  • Clubs: Presides over the 'Ultra Cheerful Students Alliance', which focuses on bringing cheerfulness and fun to the students at Mahora through 'any means necessary'. An unwritten rule of the club is the 'permission' to play pranks that others would find hilarious, even if you receive detention for it.

  • Abilities: Her 'natural' element is wind-based spells, and as a vampire, she can control bats - fairly useless as there aren't any around for her to control.

  • Backstory: When Lucy was fourteen, she was bitten, although she can't quite remember by who, nor does she really care. As a human, she had feared growing old and 'maturing', and sees her vampirism as an excuse to stay perpetually young in both mind and body. It has only been ten years since she turned, and the first drawback Lucy has found is the need to change location, due to her permanent youth, and came to Mahora one year prior. Although her personality can make it hard for others to really approach her without clawing their brains out, Lucy rather likes pretty much everyone in the school, and is already dreading having to leave - completely unaware that she might not be the only 'supernatural' being in the school. As for her parents, Lucy's father is her only relative, and they never got on well. When Lucy had been bitten, he had scoffed at the idea of her being a vampire (since vampires didn't really display any of the weaknesses attributed to them), and didn't even seemed to notice she had stopped aging. Lucy had left as soon as she was able, to continue living as a young girl for eternity.

  • Other: While not affected in the 'typical' way by vampire counter-measures, eating garlic can cause some rather... unpleasant problems for Lucy (It's such an embarrassment that she refuses to even touch the stuff), and staying out in the sun too long will drain her energy quicker, which could be a problem during a long-running sport, but she usually just exerts herself and collapses when she returns to her room, sleeping the rest of the day (or three) away.

#15: May 10th 2011 at 12:25:44 PM

Name: Natsuna Haruka

Gender: Female

Profesion: Student

Seat Number and Class: Seat Number 14, Class 2A

Personality: Haruka has been known throughout Class 2A for her ability todivert attention from herself as well as for her High Scores in History. She has very few friends but doesnt seem paticularly affected it. The few that have been know to get past her Emotional Walls have found her to be very interested, and VERY insightful to their problems.

Appearance: Tightly bound hair, eyes obscured by her glasses. modest coverings are the most distinguising features noticable to anyone observing Haruka. Her appearance likewise causes quite a few to ask: is that student actually a girl?

Bust/Waist/Hip Measurements: 31-24-34

Blood Type: AB

Clubs: Founder and head of the Philosohpy club, a small group gathering in the academies library every evening to discuss enlightenment, comparetive views, and modern affairs. Also a member of the magicks club

Abilities: High IQ, Knows some Magic Tricks (Non-real magic, Parlor tricks, e.t.c)

Backstory: Daughter of a Single Father, Mother having died in an expedition into the Himalayan Mountains for an archeological dig. Slightly richer then most because of father’s successful business as an author which allows access to the academy for his daughter as well as large stock of books in room her room.

Hope this is good. I'll be updating it as I write up more, multitasking currently. is there anything else that is needed? if for whatever reason we are put into the contract, would you want us to make the cards? (literally or just stat cards)

Um... Well, here we go. Hope it passes. And I hope no-one minds that I snatched the class rep position. It only seemed fitting, really. >.>

  • Name: Kotohime Yamaguchi
  • Gender: Female
  • Profession: Student, class representative, yakuza princess
  • Seat Number and Class: Class 2A, seat 28
  • Personality: Cool-headed at all times, and although she rarely speaks at length, she doesn't mince her words when she does. She doesn't exactly look down upon others, and may actually genuinely care about some of her classmates, but most people find her somewhat unapproachable due to her appearance and familial connections. If anyone even thinks of threatening her in any concievable way, she will simply remind them about the "perfectly legitimate business" her family deals with. Although she's completely unaware of the supernatural history of Mahora Academy, she's open minded to an extent (she'll believe it if she sees it).
  • Appearance: Perfectly embodies the Japanese ideal of beauty, with her long, silky black hair, warm, soothing amber eyes and porcelain-like skin. She stands tall, not enough to be classed as a Huge Schoolgirl, but enough that she still stands out from the crowd, and she maintains an aura of grace and elegance no matter where she goes. In addition to her school uniform, she is always wearing a black fedora, and it is advised that you on no accounts try to touch it. She also carries around a violin case, which is odd as she's not part of the music club.
  • Clubs: Kotohime is a member of the school council, in addition to being a die-hard member of the literature club. It is rumoured that she is also the one behind the underground gambling rings spread across the academy.
  • Abilities: Kotohime has above average intelligence in most subjects, although she excels most in Japanese and English due to her love of classical literature. She's also reasonably atheletic, although it's not an area she excels greatly at. Due to her connections, she likely knows about almost every non-supernatural occurence in the school. Her family is rather well off, and so money is never really a problem for her. Crackshot with a tommygun.
  • Backstory: Kotohime was born into a family of "very nice people", and has spent her entire life learning the ways of "legitimate business." Her father has a seat on Mahora's board of directors, and decided that it would be the best place for his daughter to recieve education. Although she's never had any experience with the supernatural before arriving at Mahora, she's starting to find some of the occurences there a little bit suspicious...'

I'm not sure if you're still taking characters, but if you are, would this be okay..? Also, I'm not exactly up to date on the manga, I've only read the first 18 volumes.

  • Name: Tsubame Ito
  • Gender: Female
  • Profession: Student
  • Seat Number and Class: Class 2A, seat 17
  • Personality: Tsubame is a rather cheerful girl with a habit of nicknaming almost everyone she talks to. She sometimes forgets to address authority figures with the right level of respect, a result of spending a large portion of her elementary school years abroad. She's willing to do pretty much anything (within reason...well, mostly) to get a good scoop.
  • Appearance: Tsubame is...rather small for her age(just...try not to mention it). She has long, blonde hair that she keeps tied back in a ponytail and blue eyes. Despite this, it is still fairly obvious from her looks that one of her parents is Japanese.
  • Clubs: School newspaper.
  • Abilities: Above average IQ (not that you'd know looking at her test scores, but then again, who's got time to study when there are stories to be uncovered, right?), fluent in English and spoken Japanese, good stealth and camera use skills.
  • Backstory: Tsubame was born to a Japanese father (who abandoned her and her mother when she was 5) and English mother. She spent most of her childhood in a small town in England. She came to Japan several years ago to learn more about her father and his country, and maybe to try to get in touch with him. She hasn't had any experience with the supernatural prior to attending Mahora, but there's no other way to fill in the gaps in some of these stories...

Roxas: Approved. I'm guessing she's physically fit but knows nothing about combat so she's basically on the same level as everyone else. Also she might be fine with walking under sunlight but I think it's implied in the universe that vampires are affected by some weaknesses, the strongest vampire was defeated by trapping her in a soup of garlic and leek after all.

Mao: Approved, and with it we gain our first intellectual. I'm looking forward to see how she handles the events that might come in the future.

Moerin: Approved. I very much like your entry, though the only point that worries me is Kotohime's dad being in the board of directors. I think that may be a little too much influence.

tachi: Approved. I knew we were needing a intrepid reporter around!

Crowley: You don't need to read it, but knowing about the setting would be nice. I would recommend researching a bit about Mahora Academy, maybe seek some images to make yourself an idea of the place.

Nick: Hmm that does explain some of the weirdness.

So, here are two of the classmates I have thought up for the game.

  • Name: Nijuuin Madoka
  • Gender: Female
  • Role: Peacekeeping Illusionary Mage
  • Seat Number and Class: class 2A, Seat Number 4
  • Personality: Normally a kind and nice girl, though when it comes to maintaining the law and order of the school she becomes unusually strict. Basically a goody-two-shoes. Though she's usually brave in the face of adversity she has an almost paralyzing fear of physically struck. Madoka also is a big daddy's girl.
  • Appearance: Respectable height, straight black hair cut a little short with her bangs covering her forehead.
  • Clubs: The CG (Computer Graphics) Committee.
  • Abilities: A prodigy mage with illusion magic which she has been practicing since she was in kindergarten. Respectable in the other fields of magic. She also is on the group with the highest grades in the classroom. However Madoka knows nothing about computers. Opening minesweeper without causing crashing the computer is quite an accomplishment for the girl.
  • Backstory: Daughter of Mitsuru Nijuuin, one of Mahora's Magical Teachers, she has been exposed to the world of magic since a very early age. Once she enrolled in the school she joined the CG Committee, a small club made by some of the magical people in the school dedicated to hiding all traces of magical activity and give an explanation to all the weird stuff that happens on a regular basis. Inspired by the most popular excuse by far to events like a demon invasion on campus among other incidents. Madoka's illusory magic has been essential to the team's success, since she can project at will the "CG" that the group supposedly works on every afternoon.
  • Other: Beware incredibly slight spoilers for chapter 138 of the manga. She would be this little girl on the top right panel eight years later. She's unnamed that I know off so I added the name Madoka to her.

  • Name: Kotobuki Ayame
  • Gender: Female
  • Role: Naginata Wielding Martial Artist
  • Seat Number and Class: Class 2A, Seat Number 16
  • Personality: Cheerful, easy-going though in a slightly subdued way. She's always ready to meet a challenge since there's nothing she likes more than a good duel.
  • Appearance: A little bit on the tall side and developed for her age. At first glance she looks more like a second year highschool student instead of a middle school girl. She has bright brown eyes and long hair in almost the same tone. Most of the time she can be seen wearing a headband and with her hair tied in a ponytail with two long locks of hair framing her face.
  • Clubs: Naginata Club
  • Abilities: Incredible skill wielding a pole-arm and a good fighter even without one to the point where she's one of the strongest non-magical fighters of the whole school. Academically she's good at history, home-economics, PE and terrible at anything else. She just can't focus on most subjects.
  • Backstory: Born and raised in Kyoto for most of her childhood where she started to learn her skills with the naginata in the dojo of a family friend. She gained a lot respect for her senpai and sensei on the dojo and her desire to earn their praise mixed with her love of the martial art drove her to train her hardest until she obtained the skill she displays today. Knows nothing of the Magical World.

  • Name: Arnedo Moloch, also known by teacher identity Henry Mulloch
  • Gender: male
  • Role: Teacher
  • Personality: He is a very laid back, lazy man who is oddly enough prone to both a Dirty Coward personality and a Ted Baxter personality. He prefers to let interns and his little friends do all of his grading and work for him. He is a self professed Sadist Teacher and in private has his dreams of taking over the magical world via zombie apocalypse. He is frankly utterly horrible at it. He is in perpetual denial about this. He got his butt kicked by Negi a while ago, and has been bitter about it ever since. He wants some revenge and hence, has been looking for Negi. He is always very self assured, but needs people to say what a threat he is, or he sinks into a bout of depression. Despite all this, he has deeply hidden competence in there. Very telling that, when he got serious, even an older Negi was given trouble.
  • Appearance: He is a huge man, standing at seven feet and three inches, but apparently never outgrew the goth phase. That said, it looks utterly ridiculous on him. He wears weird white face paint, mascara, black lip stick, and slicks his black hair back, and has a single tear drop tattoo below his right eye. He is Lean and Mean, well, at least minus the mean. He usually wears a black coat, a white and black striped shirt, black jeans, steel toed boots, black gloves
  • Clubs: He is the supervisor in charge of the Omniscient Council Club, wherein students bring giant stones and pretend to talk through them and about various things which make no sense even to them. Arnedo likes to pretend he knows what's going on.
  • Abilities: He is a literal example of Casting a Shadow, in that he prefers to sit in his comfy chair and let his shadow, which is a semiliquid being, do all the work for him. He can even control the shadows of others, and use them as either weapons or as the fuel for his army. He can take apart zombies using his razor wires that can appear from his hands and put them back together. If only he realized his razor wires would be a strong weapon against foes. To give zombies orders, he needs to connect these wires to them. He has a number of desperate techniques and manipulations which he sometimes uses, but only when he feels its necessary to show a special ability.
  • Backstory: He started off as a rather odd little boy, who, even as a child, preferred being inside in the comfortable darkness than outside where others could bully him and ostracize him for something or other. He actually has an IQ of 185, revealed at age 10, but he is simply too lazy and never lets it show. He knows the powers he got were of an evil sort, and he, at age 16 when he got them, decided to be evil. Really, he decided to be a bad guy. In his words "what kind of good ever came from reviving the dead, and manipulating shadows? Every person with that ability I've read about is a bad guy." He reads a lot of anime and manga, which is where he got his outlandish outfit and his annoying laugh. A little while ago, he fought Negi after the Averruncus business was over, but lost after a difficult fight, hinting at the competence. He has a teacher's helper in Kagura Anosaka, who manages to henpeck him.
  • Other: Has a rather annoying little laugh when he's having too much fun. His army behaves in a number of extremely odd ways, and they all like dancing to Thriller when off the job.

my intention with this character is that he appears as a foe a few times, gets beaten, and then during a major arc, he shows up to help the heroes. He says its an Enemy Mine. He then gets some time where he's an antagonist, then a hero again. But you'll never hear him say they are on the same side. He is noticably more competent, though, when he's an ally.

  • Name: Kagura Anosaka
  • Gender: female
  • Role: Student, and Ninja with some cybernetic limbs.
  • Seat Number and Class: Class 2A, but she does pitch in with "Henry's" class. Her number in the class is 3
  • Personality: She is The Quiet One, The Stoic who never shows much emotion, a Nightmare Fetishist and Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant who dispenses odd wisdom and some creepy little lectures on what's going on. She considers her antics just pranks. She is known for being really fricking scary as well, but she is actually a very nice young woman once she defrosts to you a bit. A bit of a Genki Girl inside of her comfort zone.
  • Appearance: She is rather grown up looking for such a young girl, with a bust size most men would say belongs on a woman twice her age of 13. She has long black hair and blue eyes, usually dresses in very boyish clothes. Her favorite coat is a hoodie with a bear paw print on the back of the hood. Despite this, she very rarely wears this hoodie.
  • Clubs: The Swordsmanship Club
  • Abilities: She can rotate anything clockwise, and can slash things really fast. She can delay perception, making it look like she is always sitting there when really she is moving all over the place. Break this effect by destroying her Cyclops Eye Pendant which is around her neck.
  • Backstory: Nothing much special here. But she is the heir of a special sword fighting style which has a number of extra Ki attacks.
  • Other: not much else.
