A genre is a means by which to identify and organize tropes. So it's a valid classification system. It similarly functions as a trope by creating expectations as to what types of tropes are to be expected in a work.
For example, in Space Opera, one expects the issue of FTL Travel to come up. In First Person Shooters, the AFGNCAAP and Heroic Mime often occur.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I can understand that, but then the page should include something about what sorts of tropes are associated with Punk Rap.
It also shouldn't be classified as a musical trope at the bottom, otherwise you could just as well put Beastie Boys in that category.
Music Tropes apply to any music recordings or performances, not just Musicals. The Beastie Boys don't belong there because they're creators, not tropes.
As far as music genres being supertropes, the problem is that our music tropes coverage is spotty and focuses on the surface-level stuff, while the building blocks of the music are not covered in much depth. So, for example, the defining features of reggae are the skank rhythm guitar, simple melodies, relatively complex bass lines, and the use of horns. Individually, any of these could theoretically appear in other genres, so all of them are music tropes. We don't have articles about any of them, as far as I know.

Music gets very few tropes. If you want to start Musical Tropes, head to YKTTW.
Fight smart, not fair.

We have pages for Punk Rap, Rap Metal, and others. Either I'm confused about what a trope is, or someone else is.
I'm not sure exactly what the criteria is, but as far as I can tell, a genre is not a trope. Whatever's in Punk Rap belongs on Wikipedia under Rapcore.
