Catchy, mass-produced pop tunes with no artistic value that we'll all forget in two weeks.

Learning the names of people I see around a lot and then striking conversations with them as if I've known them for years and watch them squirm in an attempt to remember me.

Disney Channel and Nickelodeon music, Minecraft videos, posting stories online and exploring the internet in search of info about new movies.

And since several of you consider Katy Perry's music a guilty pleasure, then that too.

As for me:

My Little Pony:Friendshipis Magic: Yep, I'm a brony, though I tried to avoid being one. Surprisingly good story and characters, good animation, and an invasive fanbase are to blame. Even if it is a show for girls.

Sailor Moon: See above.

Michael Bay movies: He makes good action films that are unpretentious in their stupidity. Nuff said.

Metroid:Other M: For both the solid gameplay and to mock the writing.

Avatar: Awesome effects, despite a really cliche storyline.

Highschoolofthe Dead: Stupid fanservice at it's worst, but is entertaining for it.

Nasuverse: Or rather, looking up the H-Scenes to laugh at all the mentions at seafood.

Callof Duty: Gosh dang it, the multiplayer, for all its flaws, is addictive.

And since this is relevant.

K On It's so vapid, the characters are so flat, the character art is so uniform, they hardly do any actual music, but I can watch an episode to calm myself down and dream I am Mio. Normally I would use subs for such a very culturally Japanese thing, but the English dub is fine and reading is not an effort I want to do for this.

Ika Musume, it has more comedic value but is very goofy and not always in a good way. And the English dub has puns that would make an editor of The Beano cringe.

The forums of World Of Warcraft, I just love to read the sillier posts, and I can usually find enough. I just delight in how short-sighted they can be, talking as if everyone already agreed on the premises when there are any number of disagreeing posts to be found, and the apocalyptic tone they so often take. (If you were to give any credibility to those forums, you would think every class was currently unviable in every area of the game that matters, the next patch will make things worse, and the game has been in terminal decline since beta.)

Websites promoting deranged ideologies, especially fire-and-brimstone preachers (www.jesus-is-savior.com is a good example). The website of the BNP mentions several times that it is the party of (some variant of) "decent, honest, hard-working Britons". That's be why they never get more than a few percent of the vote.

Quite a few B movies. Teenagers From Outer Space is the most endearingly bad I know.

To a lesser extent, El Goonish Shive. It has genuine qualities, but there is also a sort of earnest unprofessionalism to it that makes me like it. Especially the early strips, with the blatant wish fulfilment, but it's still there.

Let's see...

  • Almost all of Kesha's songs, "TiK ToK" and "Blow" in particular.
  • Some of Katy Perry's songs, including "E.T" (the one only featuring her, not the Kanye West one) and "Part of Me".
  • "Drive By" by Train. Good Lord. It's so fucking awful, but I can't help but admire the tenacity this little number has. And it's fun to go "WTF?" at the lyrical choices.
  • Several Investigation Discovery programs, including Behind Mansion Walls, Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry?, and Deadly Women. "Your Guilty Pleasure", indeed.
  • Battleship. Yes, it's based on a board game, and yes, it's cheesy as hell. But I loved it. Loved the characters, loved the cliched plot, even loved the way the movie paid respects to our soldiers. How many cheesy action movies can boast that statement?

LMFAO, Trey Songz, and Pitbull. All of them can suck the big one, but there is just this element of either stupidity or catchiness that has you singing their songs when no one is looking.
