Well, we call ourselves Knowledge Marketing for a reason...
Harumph. Anyway.
I posted this on a few other few other sites about a week back. Response has been a mix of "Yay! Western exposure!" and, more Vocal-ly...
Kill It with Fire. Her scream is harpy-level, she looks ugly ("WTF is this bug-eyed Chinese girl doing here?), and... This all seems off, and makes it even worse on the fanbase.
I'm starting to believe Toyota is secretly waging psychological warfare on it's customers.
I am become Death, Destroyer of Miniputts.I keep reading the title as "Miku used to sell Toyota cars... again".
I suppose I'm on the "Yay, Western exposure" boat, but the first thing that popped into my mind was why did it have to be World is Mine. That song barely made into my own music library because I kind of liked it except for one (or however many times she does it) thing... That damn scream. If I heard it one more time in that song, it might not have made it into my music selection.
I personally think Melt might have been the better song, though I think her voice in that song overall is a little harsh on the ears for anyone not prepared for it (though I suppose that's kind of her voice in a lot of her songs anyways).
The CG honestly didn't bother me since, CG tends to be hit in miss on a lot of things, so I never really "expect" good CG... It's just nice when it is good.
Also... AMERICAN CONCERT... O.O... why must I be currently broke and live nowhere near LA.

Why would Toyota want to promote Miku though? It's just odd. "Who came up with this idea" (1:06) indeed.

Now using Trivialis handle.abstractematics:
As someone mentioned before, Toyota is sponsoring Hatsune Miku's upcoming concert (which will be just like the 39 Giving Day concert) in LA on July 2 (during the Anime Expo), so the ad is part of the business deal.
For Love and Justice, I am Sailor Enlil! In the name of Lord Enlil, I shall punish you!I sorta like the westernized Miku drawing actually. Granted, i like the traditional ones more, but i can't say that i think it looks bad. It still got replaced though. And the CG from the ad was Nightmare Face level. Could've been far worse though.

I am incredibly perplexed by this whole debacle. You can tell a lot of people behind this pitch had no idea who Miku was. My guess? One of the execs was a huge fan and pushed it through

You are not alone.Upon learning about her Los Angeles gig it seems to be a very strange attempt to promote said concert along with the cars.
I'm still perplexed by why Toyota would be like "Yeah we'll advertise your weird concert with a virtual pop star and you can help us sell cars to everyone with said virtual pop star!" but then I am not a businessman so...

If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahIt was probably a broad advertising deal "advertise this both in Japan and America" type thing.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!

...Are you implying that marketing firms are not, in fact, all-knowing oracles of what the public can be encouraged to buy?
