I return from the bookstore the proud owner of The Anubis Gates. Let's hope it lives up to the hype. I was distressed though, that the bookstore had not a single copy of any M John Harrison book. What's the deal, is he totally unknown in North America or is it just random chance? He's also not available in ebook.

Finished The Anubis Gates. Started out slow, but it really picked up. Very good book.
Got a question about the ending though, which confused me. When Apep shows up, was there any significance to that, or was that just an out-of-nowhere Deus ex Machina, because I did not notice anything that lead up to that happening?

I'm a little surprised that I've seen so few mentions of Tim Powers' books on TV Tropes. If there was any author that should be better known on this site, it would be him. He's almost as much fun as Jim Butcher with a much higher level of research behind him. Declare, On Stranger Tides and his California Trilogy are such rich books, filled to the brim with tropes and references and Easter eggs. Anubis Gates is right up there as well, giving a different spin on time travel while at the same time celebrating its cliches.
Who else is a Powers fan? Which books have you read?
